Wow... What waste. I want the bumper bee and the little tin sign you were holding. Julia what is that shadow standing behind you in the abandoned building? JK
Good morning, makes me wonder if the locals just didn't go for the western way and it couldn't draw enough customers or purely a financial failure. A lot of money was invested in the park. Thank you
Western way ? What is that, Have you seen amusement parks in SE Asia ? Markets. Rides. Food. Bars. All Together. They can be packed. This park is nothing new for them. More likely some where better to go just down the road.
@@stephenpavy2501 Hello, having spent several years working in American amusement parks, stationary and mobile I will attest that this American/European type of amusement is inherently dangerous. Mechanical failure, electronic failure, even with supposed oversight by the government people are maimed and killed every year. My speculation is that the Cambodian people already have enough danger in their daily lives and also see how senseless the majority of the arcade games are. Not enough attendance to make the place financially feasible. As I watch through the videos from over a dozen vloggers around SE Asia I don't see much western type of entertainment. I believe the locals are happy and proud of their own culture and are very selective about picking up western ideas
@@davidaldrich2154 just because you don't see it in the vloggers you watch doesn't mean it's not there. Most vloggers are very particular what they video, mostly tourist area type things, or pleasant country scenes. I lived there and still find most the places I went to or would come across are never been put into vlogs or RU-vid. There are actually traveling fairs that pop up in villages every week in different places. Like the county fairs you have in America and Australia etc. But every week they move around, sometimes 2 places a week. But they in the villages or in the outer suburbs of bigger cities. No many vloggers explore that far I think. Also about Cambodians being more cautious about arcade games etc. Don't patronise them. They are as stupid about taking chances as we are. Cambodia more than most as it's decided to be gambling centre for the region. As for damages from rides. It ain't America. There isn't million dollar lawsuits.
@@stephenpavy2501 interesting, these traveling fairs have the roller coasters? The large swinging rides? Tiltawhirl? The dangerous rides I saw in Julia's video? Who do you sue if you are injured or a family member is killed? I'm curious
Some stuff at that park/market did not look too old and with "building quality" and extreme wet weather, it all starts to deteriorate quite fast. So is this closure a result of covid lock down 2 years ago? Like many places they were abandoned in 2020. Although some of these market/amusement places are often have low attendance, not all are successful. Saw it Bangkok way before covid. There would be one highly successful park on one block and another not far away, super quiet.
I’ve spoken to a few locals and apparently covid had nothing to do with this (their fb seemed to be inactive before 2020) but more to do with costs of the rides and rent for the stalls/vendors. Water is still hooked up and running tho
Yeah I really only think it was 3 years ago or so that this all happened... so right before the pandemic I believe... Unbelievable how much the overgrowth has taken over!!!
All the big container markets are closed. I can think of 3 different ones including the Palm market. The other 2 were definitely hit hard by lack of business brought on by Covid 19, but I think in the long run all were headed toward trouble because they never did seem to get lots of customers.
In response to your description box, if I had things my way, I would explore things all day, every day. I think my first year in Cambodia I had gone cross country 2 or 3 times on my motorbike and stopped at almost every city, lol!
That sounds incredible actually!!! Maybe when it's not rainy season I'll have the chance to do more distance motorbiking like that... It sounds amazing...
