That place was really huge! I have never heard of a mental hospital with basket ball courts, swimming pool, bowling alley, movie theater, just immense, a self contained city.
SutekhAeon Yes, exactly. Many of these old facilities were basically self-contained towns. I think some even had farms on the property to grow crops, wheat, fruits, veggies, milk from the cows, meat, etc. Other facilities even had cottages on the campus for the workers to live in, so even the employees would rarely ever leave.
All this without a single "Dude, something just touched my neck." or an "OMG I just seen a shadow move over there... you know that spot thats just outside my cam's field of vision and only I could of seen!" lol
I really dont know how you can go there by yourself and contain your fear... Once I found an abandoned building with a friend, in the middle of a huge field. We entered for some seconds and instantly feel scared, then we heard something that probably wasn't even from inside the house and ran like we were going to be killed XD you are really brave
Scary moments list: Your breathing ;.; First time filming inside, it's so dark and scary ;.; 08:53 WHAT WAS THAT SCREAM!? Oh no the underground part where the floor is flooded, so creepy ;.; 26:45 Poor bird.. XD 29:00 Cool theathre! 30:42 Old swimmingpool.. Nice. 25:31 WHAT'S THAT HOWLING!? Sounds like the wind but still.. So great video, cool facts, scary sh*t O.o
What is sad to me is. When there is an empty building. people take it a pone them self's to wreck it. I have no clue why kids have to brake glass and to spray paint all over the place. It wrecks it for the people who want to see it the way it was when they shut it down. But it's rare to find a building that no one has wrecked buy busting up everything or painting everything. If they could learn to just look and leave it as it was then everyone can enjoy it. But that will never happen case for some reason kids think we care if they where there or not. I mean if the art work was decent then maybe but its all crap. Swears and gross stuff. That is not art its disrespectful to the building and the people who go in after theses punks. What ever happen to the days where people respect things. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it sad to look at a building an its all smashed and pained all over. What are they proving??? That they are big JERKS. And a lot of them can not even spell. So they should just go back to school and leave things alone.
Simply, "respect". Since their own parents probably didn't have enough respect for each other to work on their own marital problems they decided instead to solve issues with a baby and since that obviously never works the child had no one around to instill or follow examples of basic respect of people, property and the over all good sense to find something more to do with their time that didn't equal destruction. Better news, most of these same "adults" will soon, if not already, be able to vote. And that's great because, obviously, they strive for the better things in life.
OH I AM SO SORRY SCOTT. I can not be perfect like you. I know that you have NEVER made any mistakes in your life and you have never misspelled anything in your life ether. SO that makes you Jesus. Case if you can judge and put people down case they make a mistake in spelling then you must be making up for something you are missing. What are you a tiny little boy who has to be mean to make him self seem big. Say what you will but not many people find you funny. AND NO ONE GIVES A CRAP ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY. So I am sorry your majesty for the miss spellings. But I am not perfect I am a human being and the only one who is perfect and ever will be 100 % perfect is . NO its not YOU. Its the LORD OUR GOD AND YOU ARE NOT HIM.
It's such a shame that all these historic buildings are in such decay and it seems punks with spray paint destroy everything they can. This place should have been preserved and perhaps turned into a museum. Great job with the footage and the information.
I don't see the value in turning old hospitals into museums. Would you really want our tax money to be spent on buildings like this to be maintained? I also hate seeing giant structures go to waste, but please keep in mind that the building is completely depreciated for tax purposes There would be millions invested in renovations to get it back to a business friendly facility.
Emily B Surveying, GeoCaching has taught me these crumbling monuments to decay are everywhere. Games have become a real kind of interactive art form; allowing us to not only see this decay, but crawl through it. Critical to understanding how fleeting our footprints last in a world of constant change. Nature will reclaim all, swallowing tomorrow
21:16 "I am the snake guarding this tunnel! You can't go any further... oh wait, you have a stick? Don't push me to the side, or I won't be able to block your way anymore... aww, I have been defeated."
I laughed way too hard when that bird smacked into the window. I feel bad, but I couldn't help it... just... 'thunk', 'plop'. Heh. I'm a terrible person.
All in all, this is my VERY favorite / the BEST exploration video I have ever seen. Definately one of the best abandoned explorations I will ever see online. Thank you for risking yourselves & showing us this amazing & rare footage. #FullyAppreciated ,}
i stumbled upon your videos surprisingly watching a video completely un related. i do have to say that i give you major major props! i visited lambertville about 3-4 years ago and it was very difficult to navigate through the halls and stairs when they're basically just giant holes. this video was amazing i felt like i was walking with you guys the whole time. i am curious about what happened towards the end! being a new jersyan i love that a majority of your videos are filmed here, since i can't visit them all! you're awesome continue to make safe videos! :D
I love your videos. Most people talk all through their walk-thrus but you guys are silent for the most part, which gives the viewer the sense that they are their themselves in a way..I explored Byberry Hospital bunches of times before it 86'ed..in fact im in my friend shakiki's photo compilation she put on here. I toured her through there in '06, right before they tore it down. I'd love to accompany you on one of your missions sometime. You do a great job. I'm actually planning a trip to a NJ asylum as soon as the weather breaks.
i hope all chances of walmart getting this land are blocked by the city of new york, sick of their commercials on tv every 2 seconds, such a horrible place to work for!!!!!
Thank you SO much for these videos. It's really a privilege to "tag along" with you as you take us into unknown territory. It just boggles my mind to see such big places abandoned like that, with some things left, like the patient paperwork, to disappear with time. What happened at the end? almost sounded like there was something mechanical actually working...and an indication that you had been joined by a security guard maybe? Great great work.
Im glad you guys are smart and wear mask's when urban exploring. Especially in places like this where lead paint is used. Once it starts to peel and deteriorate like in this video it can be quite dangerous. As just walking around will kick up the lead dust that has settled over the years. Great Video's. I wish you could get a grant or something to continue further exploration's on a more vast area. It really is amazing what's right in out backyard's :) Subbed for sure. Looking forward to the next one.
I love your videos! I actually did not know there were others out there who share my obsession with old abandoned structures! .. and the thing I like most is the background information you provide about them. It's not just poking around old buildings.. the history of them is very interesting too. Thanks again!
I could pull 2.75 million in scrap metal out of those buildings before it was ripe to be pulled(demoed). Looks like a serious ecological hazard as it stands. All I see in a lot of these walk throughs are RECYCLE ME signs everywhere lol
This is one of your best!!! I love the facts and history that you always provide about the places you visit. I watch a video of yours and wonder what it was like (Back In The Day), when they were new and full of life. Thank you for taking us with you to the places!!!
I worked in a similar facility for 30 years that is now in the process of being closed down. It was great seeing the advances in medication so patients could stay with their families and some on their on working being productive members of society. It brings back many memories looking at the video. Thanks for filming it.
yeah i see this place a lot i also remember the fire back in 2007. This is such a creepy yet beautiful place but i hate all the graffiti everwhere. Great video i always wanted to see inside this place.
So many of thease places were closed for being understaffed and over crowded, and with alot of people just taking the proper medication. Scary to think alot of patients were there for simple things like depression and anxiety...
I think that's really sad but what you said was true don't forget how in some of these places the patients were mistreated . That's what makes these places even more crazy . And all the other crazy shit that happens in these places.
Inachu Ikimasho The audio I got doesn't even do justice to how it sounded in person. I regret not checking it out, but it was too freaky at the time to take any chances.
Lexi Martinez .... It whistles a little when I breathe through the p100 filters on my respirator. That's the sound you are hearing, I promise you. You can hear it several times throughout this video and many others.
We find your videos very interesting! Props for all the effort that you are putting into urban exploration! We wish more explorers were like you! I think it's time for a visit to your on-line store :)
Wow... Based on the timing of this video, a LOT of deterioration had taken place since its closing in 2003. I don't know. Maybe it's just me; but it I guess for being 10 years abandoned, I thought it'd be in overall better shape. What a great adventure, though! I love TheUnknownCameraman's explorations!!!
+Tranquility32 Well it burned in the 70s and they didn't repair that portion. Then they continued to close down portions of it until the close in '03. So, a lot of the REALLY bad damage probably was from older wings. I'm thinking more the beginning part that it's just the ceiling and plumbing that are really bad along with dirt and graffiti that was still open in 2003.
+Tranquility32 Then I guess we're both loony because I thought the same thing. It should have been in better shape. When I was looking for a house, there was one for sale that was empty for 20 years. It was a beautiful brick house on the outside. I was curious, so I asked to see it. The yard was overgrown with shrubs that went wild because they were never trimmed. The exterior doors, of course, were weather damaged, but still intact. No one went in and damaged it with graffiti and it was not vandalized. The windows were all intact, but showed serious weathering. The oak hardwood floors were once gorgeous, obviously, but were somewhat buckled. The reason for that was the basement had water. It had a sump pump, but when the power was turned off, the basement filled half way with water. I asked why it was left unoccupied. The owners got into a vicious battle in a divorce, and the husband was required to pay half the proceeds to the wife when he sold it. He walked away from the house when he found a girlfriend and refused to sell it, leaving it to rot. He paid the taxes on it so the County wouldn't foreclose for any unpaid taxes, but he did nothing with the house for all those years. They had no children, so when his ex-wife died, he then listed it for sale. He did not want her to have a dime from the house. After I prodded the agent, I discovered that she was the one who worked so he could finish medical school.
Brayden Bledsoe No. The agent was hired by the husband to try to sell the house. After I read that sentence again, I can see it wasn't clear. It was the husband's ex-wife who worked to put him through school. I then found out who the owner was. I wanted to make damned sure that neither I nor my wife nor anyone I cared about would ever be treated for anything by a hateful s.o.b.. like that. He wasn't going to get one dime of our money.
Oh my gosh I when the bird smacked into that wall I couldn't help but laugh and watch it 5 more times. It's like he tripped out so hard when he saw you that he didn't know where to go and just smacked into it. Haha all I'm so terrible for thinking that's funny.
Wow, this asylum goes on forever! Are there any photos of the asylum and recreational center when it was still being used? This was great to watch, I was intrigued every minute. Thanks for the footage!
What was the noise at the end? Soo creepy. I love places like this. There is a vacation place in the Catskills that's abandoned on here..a place like in the movie dirty dancing. When I saw the deer it reminded me of the movie with Will Smith.. I Am Legend..I was waiting for zombies to be huddled in one of those rooms.. Imagine that place at night.. Ugh.. I still wanna know what the noise was at the end.. Maybe you said it and I didn't hear
I remember being a kid and going here before it was shutdown and had nice paint and everything when I would go with my mother to pick up her paychecks. It's insane how much the place had deteriorated! I actually recognize some of the spots in the buildings you show, but looking nice back then! Great work!
O those beautiful windows in the sunroom/ smoking porch area! I'm happy to know you & your friend wore masks this time, you both really needed them. :) 19.59 was a lovely pic of the structure ^^ Wow, that rec center! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
I love the length of this vid, thanks for making it like a short film :) this is horrifying and beautiful. wait about 20 years and the decay will be absolutely incredible to see. (if it's not demolished)
