Somewhere in the video I heard "this place must have been closed for years". Nope. It was open and comfortable and a nice place to stay until April 30, 2022. I know first-hand because I am the one that closed it. I was General Manager from 2004 to, well... April 30, but I worked there since 1993. The place looks so wrecked inside because after it was closed, vandals and vagrants moved in IMMEDIATELY. They started the first day it was closed. We (the owners) took out anything we could use in our business, then others forced in and fleeced the place. The stink and mold is because the roof is cut up and it rains inside whenever it rains outside. The building damage you see (daylight inside) is intentional. I invited the local police departments and fire departments to conduct training exercises on the building because at the end of the day, the building is set to be demolished. That gave them a real-world scenario in which to train personnel. The cutting up of the roof let the rain in, and thats why the inside is a soggy mess. Are there ghosts in there? Having worked there for almost 30 years, I can tell you that 1, I do not believe in ghosts. and 2, Yes. We had at least one ghost in there. We think her name was Lisa. That's either cold fact or a poorly remembered story. BUT- when the hotel was running, for as long as I worked there, She'd show up (or her aura or spirit or whatever supernatural chasers call it) right before bad thunderstorms hit and her signature scent is some drug store perfume. I cant remember if its Wind Song or Baby Soft or something else. The story we heard of the ghost that was there the whole time had to do with a restaurant employee ironically drowning in the pool. Not the pool in the video. There used to be a much larger pool there in the 70s and the drowning supposedly happened sometime in the early 80s. I was never able to fact check it. The explorers in this video did a pretty okay job with their narration. What I CAN tell you is they showed you about 10% of how vast and expansive the place really is. DISCLAIMER: DO NOT ENTER THIS BUILDING. WE DON'T OWN IT ANYMORE. The township put an unsafe structure sticker on it because the utilities are shut off, no water for fire sprinkler, no fire alarm, and its generally a place you are not allowed in. Just because I commented on your post, if you or anyone goes inside against warnings and gets hurt, it's not my fault. By the way, I never did have any control over the ghost, either. To my knowledge she never hurt anyone or caused other problems. With that said...she never was one to take orders or directions from anyone.

Wow! Thanks for the information and thank you for watching…. It’s pretty cool to hear from someone that actually had something to do with the place, we don’t usually get that!! But the decay caused purposely by fire and police for training is interesting thank you for clearing that up! I wonder if any other places we’ve visited have the same situation going on with the decay!!

It looks like it was a very nice place, what made you decide to close and demolish?

We closed it for a number of reasons. The building was built in 1960. It was an all exterior motor inn. Infact, it's original name was Palmer Motor Inn through the 60s and early 70s before becoming Treadway Inn of Princeton. It closed in the early 80s and was overhauled and on February 2, reopened as Best Western Palmer Inn. When it was a Treadway, there was a restaurant attached called Library Restaurant and Lounge. I think at one time, there were 4 Library Restaurants in New Jersey. When it was Best Western Palmer Inn, the restaurant was a Charlie Brown's Steakhouse. In april 2004, it was again remodeled, and in October 2004, it became Clarion Hotel Palmer Inn, a franchise of Choice Hotels. Now, on to the reasons it closed: The building still had half of its rooms in the courtyard (as seen in the video), which were considered to be "exterior corridor." Exterior corridor properties have higher expenses (like insurance) and maintenance. Next: all the wiring was replaced in the 80s, but the plumbing was still from 1960. Also, there was a time when that was the ONLY place to stay on Route 1 for miles. Today, there are dozens of hotels around that area, not to mention Vrbo, AirBnB... there's tons of competition. Finally, we were approached by someone interested in purchasing the property for redevelopment. While it made emotional sense to keep running it as a hotel, it made more financial sense to sell it so the land could be re-purposed. We had a pretty good run, and I am proud to have been there for most of it. Managing that hotel was one of the biggest parts of my life, and I will always miss it. But folks, remember, it was just a building. Nothing lasts forever. It was awesome to be in charge of the landmark it really was, for the crazy long time I managed it.

If you want to explore some more abandoned places, one is a cement plant right next to I-75 in Adel GA, or an abandoned outlet mall next to I-95 in Santee SC. There is an abandoned Knights Inn at I-20 and SR-70, but Atlanta is not a safe place for exploring abandoned buildings.

This is a cool explore, looks like it was quite a swanky place back in the day! I'm glad you got to do a full walkthrough, even with the other people there...and that you got out safe. Seems like they were scrappers/squatters maybe just keeping an eye on their 'territory'; I've had a freaky experience similar to that and fortunately I had a friend with me also, and we were able to do a full explore and got out safely. Thanks for sharing, this was a real thriller! 👍😁
