Convent's are schools for Nuns, women who devote their lives to learning and teaching religion. This property was built in 1896, inside you'll see 100 year old woodwork, a sanctuary filled with stained glass imported from Europe. Also attached to the property is a Nun College, School for children, as well as a retirement home for seniors and long term nuns.
The downfall of the property started in 2014 when maintenance costs were starting to get out of control for this old building. Water damage and mold attacking this old building and seeping into its cracks.
Years later, we explore what remains on the historical and architecturally beautiful campus. Hopefully you enjoy the film, and let me know what you think!

This is one of the more architectural stunning locations that separates itself from many other buildings in this country. I'm very thankful I had the privilege to explore this location while it looks like it did. Sadly I hear, almost all of the place is destroyed by vandals by now :( gladly my video will be a reminder before those times. Thank you guys for the continuous love ❤ Let me know, which building was your favorite out of all the ones today ?

I respect your opinions, of course. But if people would choose to follow the 10 Commandments, just that, there would be so much less hate, fear, homelessness and so many other tragedies we live with daily. They are really “Rules for a Happy Life.” Just sayin’

Is this the one in Peekskill NY? I noticed u always are in NY, NJ…..I mean I’ve seen u elsewhere but mostly on LI, upstate NY, NJ although we don’t have much in NJ, we got a lil lil something!!!! I’ve always wanted to go look at old abandoned places!!!! I was born in 68 so I remember the old kitchen colors such as yellow or that ugly green, lol….The old rotary house phones, NO microwaves, those big old Zenith TV’s (that’s if u were lucky enough) or it was a small black & white TV….Thanks for bringing childhood memories back to me

That chill spot was most likely a bellfrey where the bell was housed which would explain why it wasn't easy to access. The senior center was most likely for retired priest and nuns initially. As priests and nuns started to die out, they would have accepted others to keep the facility going up to the time that the church decided not to invest in the upkeep any longer.

I just watched The Proper People explore this place! Quite a coincidence with two different urbexes uploading their videos about the same place just over a week apart. If anything, both videos watched together gave me a more complete view of this place. Plus, it's nice to know you're both in the same area. 😃👍

I love it! I would absolutely live there in a heartbeat! PS, that's a bidet not a urinal. I also had a thought about the room with the lock on the outside. Some autistic children are "elopers" (escape artists), so maybe the parents did that to keep the child from getting out in the middle of the night. Great video! It's such a shame it's not being saved!

Such a big complex, would have been a perfect seniors apartment building. The chapel is so gorgeous and the stained glass throughout is absolutely stunning. So glad they are saving it, but it should be saved soon, with the broken window and door allowing people inside, it won't be long before its vandalized :o( Loved the little closets you found and the fireplaces were gorgeous. This could easily be a place for movie settings. And I loved the confession!! 10 Bloody Marys!! I couldn't stop laughing :o) Great explore - lots of things to see and very enjoyable. Thanks guys and stay safe :o)

Charity, medicine, hospice, elder care, homeless care, and a lot more. I mean you guys sure don't know how confession works, lol.

The big difference in the confessional booth is that the priest hearing the confession opens or closes the window doors. The one making confession waits for the window to be opened by the priest.

Very interesting exploration. It reminded me to do a search on a big mansion and convent in Western, NY. We had a cousin who was a nun there. I remember visiting her and they brought out cookies. It's cool when you're a little girl to get cookies. I couldn't find the convent when I just googled it. It was a beautiful mansion. I'll keep looking. Take care and be careful.

The older portions of this complex are beautiful. It’s sad that beauty is so absent in modern architecture, especially industrial architecture. There seems to be a belief that industrial architecture should be devoid of all beauty. I hate that “modern” buildings and “modern” alterations to older buildings are often so ugly. I also hate that architecture has declined since World War II as humanity should be constantly improving, not devolving. Traditional, pre-World War II architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship are my favorite. I would love for more buildings today to be built using traditional architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship instead of conforming to the often ugly architecture, lackluster building materials, and mediocre craftsmanship that are prevalent today. If you are in a position to design or build a building, consider using traditional architecture, building materials, and craftsmanship if at all possible as they are more beautiful, higher quality, and more durable than their modern counterparts. There has been little good art or architecture since before World War II. We need a return to real, beautiful art and architecture, not ugly abstract “art” or bland, plain modern architecture. It’s a shame that art and architecture during any given time period tends to conform to the same stylistic norms instead of being unique and it’s a shame that the current modern norms are typically low quality and ugly. The contrast between the beautiful original chapel and the ugly “modern” probably 1960s era chapel highlights this point. The original chapel was built in 1949 according to information that I found online, so it’s remarkably beautiful for a post World War II building.

Generally speaking, colleges run by nuns would be for all women not just nuns. The convent would send nuns off for appropriate degrees so they could teach in their respective fields. In the 19th century women were not allowed to in many state and public run universities. So the nuns provided education of women who would;d be left out.

I have an idea. Why don't they have immigrants stay in buildings like this? All that money given to housing could be put BACK into the structure, in the community in which it sits. If they looked at places that where ONCE thriving, figure out WHAT made them thrive, and introduced an updated format, we would be benefitting the whole. It just makes no sense.
