History of Sutton Hoo - In 1939, the Second World War was on the horizon, and an incredible discovery was made beneath the earth in a corner of Suffolk England. To discover the story behind the Anglo-Saxon treasures at Sutton Hoo. An archaeologists painstakingly brushed away soil to reveal the shape of a ship. In the centre of the ship, they would found a burial full of treasures. It turned out to be an Anglo-Saxon royal burial and it aided in the understanding of early England. It was so incredible to be able to learn and walk the same path. 🤍 Jess x

A lovely video, as usual. Thank you. The man who identified and excavated the site was an amateur archeologist. Edith Pretty donated the whole hoard to the British Museum. If you find yourself in London, well worth going to see it. It is truly spectacular.

The best time to visit is on a cold winters day. The burial ground has a strange feel to it. The walk up the hill from the river, the route they had to drag the boats to the burial site gives an insight to the effort put into the burial ritual.

I like your purposeful stride Jess, no nonsense and focused on 'getting there.' When you and Chris go back, what will we ever do? No more jaunts around Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire... and further afield.

The gold ornaments and jewellery that were found there are amazing and worth a visit to see. I loved the walk with the different shades of green. Try playing conkers. Open the spiked nutshell and remove the brown nut. Drill a hole, add a string and try to break the other person's conker.

Great video Daydreamers Barn. I have a sneaky feeling that Chris is now starting to enjoy driving on UK roads to a point where he might have a reverse culture shock driving on American roads when you guys return back to the United States. Sun is shining, what a beautiful drive, lovely villages and lush green scenery on the way. What could be better. Nothing wrong with your camera and audio guys, picture perfect! but looking forward to your GoPro upgrade. Free range chickens on the menu, yum yum. 🐔The Royal Blue King's burial grounds, so cool and what a great find. I did not know even this place existed! Yes, as you have gathered, the Anglo-Saxons built Britain as we are today and you, me and I all have a little bit of Anglo-Saxon in us, just look at your complexions guys or do a "23andMe" test to prove your DNA's ancestry, ethnic, and background. The views of the pastures and foliage were so wonderful. The autumn walk through woods was amazing with colour change of the plants and trees breath taking and being "one with nature." I have just recently caught up with your "Fun Exploring the COTSWOLD with some Americans | UK Vlog" Chris and Jess and so glad you guys found your way to the Cotswolds, a true gem in the British countryside and practically fairy tale land. Another place I think you would love to visit, is the New Forest in Hampshire. This beautiful area is renowned for its free-roaming ponies, deer, and other wildlife and is home to over 4,000 ponies, a must visit and you can bring your dogs too. Absolutely love your videos Chris and Jess and look forward to your next adventure! Dean 🙂

What an awesome video to take us into autumn with, thank you. The weather was a blessing. If you haven't already, do try the 'sweet chestnuts', and have them, as is tradition, roasted on Bonfire Night, 5th of November. Some shops sell them in packs. But be careful when you roast them as they can pop quite loudly and get (obviously) very hot! Yummy seeds of goodness, unlike the 'Horse Chestnut' which is poisonous to humans and most creatures, including bizarrely, horses! Stay well, safe, and keep dreaming of hops and all things micro brewery :)

There’s a Saxon King burial site in Southend-on-Sea, next to the Saxon King pub, opposite Priory Park (which also has a 12th century monastery & museum & stuff).

Returning from there 5 years or so ago to our holiday cottage a black panther walked from one side of the road to the other in front of us. We later stopped at a shop and the lady there said she'd seen it too. Don't know what's happed after that. Ian Dee.

Great video, but did you not visit the museum and view the artefacts ( or copies) on view. It is an absolute must! Also, the guided tours are excellent and take you to the ship burial mound. There is a recent film of the discoveries at Sutton Hoo. It is not entirely accurate but well worth watching.

@@DaydreamersBarn I do hope you manage to return to Sutton Hoo, the house is ok, the only thing remarkable was between the the window in the lobby, was where Edith Pretty's Spiritualist friend, "saw" soldiers marching around the mound, with a horseman on top..The mound had been excavated, but luckily the treasures untouched..They are now in the British Museum..but replica's are in the Exhibition Hall, if you go on RU-vid, you will be astounded by them....Wishing you a quieter return, to really explore..xx

The country just sits on millennia of history, Roman forts, villas, bathhouse under farmland, an infamous English King under a Leicester car park, alleged to arranged the disappearance of the 2 Princes in the Tower, Time team an archaeological program well worth a viewing. Any building work in London has archaeologists attached in the early stages.

Little prickly things as you call them are commonly known as conkers (horse chestnuts) many of fight in a school playground with boys over playing that game

Hi just to let you know they aren't the same thing. The sweet prickly chestnut that we can eat is from a sweet chestnut tree it's different to a Conker. Like you said Conkers grow on Horse Chestnut Trees which we can't eat. It is easy to get them muddled up.

There is a 2021 Netflix movie dramatising the discovery of Sutton Hoo burial site called “The Dig”, starring Ralph Fiennes and Lily James. They take a few liberties with the story, but it’s worth a watch if you are interested in the subject!
