Hello there!
Welcome back to another video, this week we’re finally getting around to exploring the wonderful ‪@instruo‬ Arbhar! In the first part of a three or four part series, I begin to explore Arbhar’s potential through some guitar samples I recorded, enjoy!

Wow! Arbhar sounds incredible! Such a good choice of using guitar as your sample! Excited to see you get more into it. Also, beautiful shots!

Thanks! I’m working pretty hard to up my video skills, Glad you came and checked out the vid! These first few videos are all me getting to grips and exploring, through different guitar samples (there’s also a bonus ‘epilogue’ video in the works) but if folks enjoy ‘em I’ll have to try and keep the series up & keep exploring Arbhar!

@@megamodularis well the skills are definitely high! Everything looks great! I’m similarly digging into video and exploring a bit more here and there. Right now taking a break from longer videos and offering up more one sit kinda videos. It’s just so fun to wrap up thoughts, music and visuals in an edit!

I have the Arbhar module and it is great, can be complex as it has lots of different modes. What I like about Arbhar is how it sounds… it is warm sounding compared to Beads and morphogene (both are also excellent) I’ve no idea why .
@megamodularis
@megamodularis 4 месяца назад
Yeh I think I know what you mean, I’m not sure if it has the same input stage as the Lubadh which if I remember rightly is from their Tanh[3] module, a warm, analogue like saturation (that I think is there to stop digital clipping?) perhaps this is why? I think Jason discusses it in a Lubadh video, and I think Arbhar has it too (I could be wrong though!)

You make me cry... I had to sell my modular mini-system in which Arbhar was the main pillar, and hearing those magnificent melodies reminds me when I had all my modules... Now, I still have Arbhar with me, but sold all the cables and other modules, so going back for now it's not a thing. Maybe another time, when I'll win the lottery 😅. Thanks a lot btw. It's a piece of art this module.

Thank you for your kind words! It’s a lovely module, full of potential, I hope you find your way back to modular someday and continue the fun explorations! It’s nice that you’ve kept Arbhar for when you do go back to it!

Thank you, I’m still just exploring and figuring out what I can do with Arbhar, it is quite a pricey module, although I suppose that’s partly because of how complex it is? It certainly feels like it can do a lot, I personally love exploring granular type modules, like Arbhar, Beads and Morphagene 🙂

Are the warble sounds coming from the Arbhar?
@megamodularis
@megamodularis 5 месяцев назад
No, I think they are due to how I record my patches onto the Teenage Engineering TP-7 with it’s physical motor reel, this adds the warble and occasional ‘drop’ out

Hey man, what is your opinion now that Arbor 2.0 is out versus morphagene? I know they are both different types of modules, but I guess I’m curious if you had to choose one or the other regardless of knowing the workflow and being comfortable with it, which one do you feel you get more usable sounds out of? I have Morphagene and absolutely love it. Been sitting on waiting for arbhar to have stereo input and now it does
@megamodularis
@megamodularis 2 месяца назад
@@joeymc5272 Hey! Yeh they can be quite similar for sure, and I definitely know Morphagene better than Arbhar so that’ll cloud my opinion a little, I’d have to say Morphagene (although again a large part of that is the controls, workflow and my familiarity with them) but for some reason I view Arbhar still as something more like Beads (even though it has a lot of similarities to Morphagene too) so I tend to use it more in that way, as an effect I suppose, as well as a sound design tool, whereas I still primarily use Morphagene as the sound exploring tool, the new V2.0 really improves the capabilities, and it’s probably a more complex and capable module than Morphagene? (I don’t know that for certain) you could probably intentionally use Arbhar in an almost identical way to Morphagene (I might try this for a video if you find the idea interesting?) plus is can do more proper granular things too, so it’s worth thinking about, I’d suggest going somewhere to try it out if you can which might give you a little more of an idea, it’s definitely a great module and can definitely do things that Morphagene can’t (which is why I’ve got both!) I guess my habit would be to go for Morphagene but if I was starting out again with a limited budget and could only pick one of Morph/Beads/Arbahr - Arbhar might be the best pick? It’s a really tough choice for me though! (Sorry, I hope that was helpful and I apologise for rambling a little!)

@@megamodularis lol exactly man what you said is right where i am at. I have beads and morphagene and i am trying to justify the price tag as i have mojave too by qu-bit. I wouldn’t say im a huge granular fan but every time i hear someone sample through arbhar its always awesome sounding. Hence your guitar lick through it. Having stereo inputs now is the only reason i have interest in it. I would absolutely love a video if you have the time to do a comparison. By chance does arbhar have the noise morohagene is accompanied by out of curiosity? I mainly use eurorack as an fx processor but i do like some sequencing of vcos but mainly just the fx for guitar and into pedals or daw for verb. Loved video 1 and 2 by the way. Sounded so bliss lol.

@@joeymc5272 Thanks! I think there’s a couple more in this Arbhar series, and I’m putting out some Morphagene videos soon too! I’ll try my best to do a comparison video, but I’m away from the synth for a while, so not sure when it’ll be exactly! I think if you watch some of my Arbhar videos and then these new Morphagene ones over the next few weeks, that might show well how I use the two in different ways? (I hope so anyway!) I think Arbhar does have some noise to it, but deffo not as much as Morphagene, and both Morphagene and Beads are stereo, but I do like having a full stereo signal chain… And you’re right it is an expensive module, so if you’re not huge into granular (which I would say I am, hence why I got it) then you can definitely achieve great results with Morphagene and Beads, as I’m sure you do already! I think for me the interest in Arbhar was the different approach to granular stuff, with the different controls, I think different controls make you work differently, so it just depends which you’re drawn to the most! I’m certainly interested in Mojave too, but I’ve never tried it

@@megamodularisoh ok thanks man! That makes sense to me. Everybody i watch has arbhar and uses it pretty frequently so i wonder if i am missing out not having it. Read you can actually use it like a vco whatever is recorded can be given pitch information which is pretty sweet actually. Wonder if you can load single cycle waveforms or even wavetables and use it like a vco? I like granular but it has to be useable granular. Mojave is cool no doubt but at least for me it can be hard to use and dial in good useable sounds with it. All depends on what you are feeding it. Ill wait and watch for an videos you make. Right now trying to decide between arbhar or a complex osc like cs-l/brenso. Both is similar price range. Have not decided yet.
@megamodularis
@megamodularis 2 месяца назад
@@joeymc5272 Oh yeh that’s true you can play it 1 V/oct for sure, although its not something I’ve ever actually tried, for me personally, I think Beads gets the best most immediate granular results, the kind of thing that comes to mind when you think of granular, but I love how it operates with reverb and feedback controls and how you can modulate them together too, but for me it is the most usable, no shade to Arbhar, which i use a lot, but still! To me it does sound like you have a good amount of granular modules, so depending on your whole setup, and what you want to achieve, might be best looking in that other direction, like complex osc, Instruo have a lot of interesting modules worth looking at, so it seems like your looking in the right places! (All IMO of course!) But good luck and don’t hesitate if you have any other questions!

Arbhar VS Nebulae VS Morphagene ?

I’d love to do that! @OmriCohen-Music has a great video exploring Arbhar vs Morphagene which probably convinced me to get both in the end (I’ve had Morphagene for quite a while now) but sadly I don’t have the Nebulae, maybe I’ll have to look at adding it to the rack (I love anything granular) maybe Arbhar vs Nevulae, Morphagene & Beads!

@@megamodularis I have Nebula v2. It can do a time-stretch with preserving a pitch, or playing 1V/oct pitch with the time stretching at the same time (backward or forward). Which is awesome. But I've never tried Arbhar or Morphagene.

Wow, that sounds great, I’ll have to check it out, Morphagene is up there amongst my favourite modules, it’s so intuitive to cut up and stretch audio and pairing it with something like Beads or Arbhar usually leads to great ambient results!
