Apparently the family who owned this château date back 900 years. There used to be a hunting lodge where the castle is today, using the original foundations. They used to regularly hunt then host big parties and magnificent meals in the banqueting room, where the table is 18th century which they still have the instructions to extend and shorten it depending on the amount of people they have to sit around the table. There is 25 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. The 18th century tapestries are bespoke especially commissioned to depict their family life there. It was passed on to the last descendant of the family, an only child. The tapestries were hung on the walls to keep the château warm in winter. It was for sale in 2017 for £12 million /$16 million. Apparently there is only a handful of châteaux that have their own personal theatre.

We have hundreds if not thousands of castles here in France , some that are museums, event halls , hotels , tour castles, and some who are still used by owners to live in and in different other ways …but unfortunately we can’t turn every castle in to something…there are to many castles ! And yes the bills , tax and especially maintenance fees are off the roof , which is why many castles are abandoned or/and fall into ruins !
@SakiBlablabla
@SakiBlablabla Год назад
@@lailapachkov8006 As I said previously, there are a lot of castles in France ! The gouvernement have more imminent issues to deal with that they are failing to deal with ! Also , they might not be « paying » shit but even to use an old castle as a gouvernement hold has a maintenance cost which they would rather allocate the important castles which actually have historical and architectural significance and not every chateau in the entire country…they just can’t do it, protect all medieval architectural heritage because castles are a little bit like churches in France , there is more or less one per village ! The gouvernement would rather help maintain Royal and Important Noble houses then trying to maintain every little lord and knight’s little castle or secondary residence ! It might sound awful but it is realistically impossible for the French gouvernement to repurpose every castle ! Even the rich ass people can’t repurpose successfully every piece of medieval architecture especially those who are in the middle of nowhere, like the little ones you can find in little rural cities and villages can be taken care of by the collectivity but the medium sized ones that are in the middle of nowhere and are truly nothing special well they get purchased by rich people, or they get abandoned , cause owning a medieval castle is really , really expensive and if you don’t find a way to monetize it , you are doomed !

Fun fact…. In the old days the red design on the wallpaper in some rooms were made/colored with ox blod. Learned that from a historian at one of the many many castles here in Denmark. The color green had arsenic in it to make it brighter. It was used a lot in womens dresses and caused some to die because of it. Love the video🫶🏻

Often times ‘salon’ in Europe and particularly France meant formal living room, it was a communal space where events were held. In reference to art history it evolved into the displaying of artwork for peers to see, almost like a gallery.

From the deer heads and number of bedrooms, this was likely an old hunting lodge for aristocracy-specifically built for massive hunting parties to come out and stay during the season-to hunt and relax and enjoy the countryside during the day and have entertainments in the evening like theatre and reading and play parlour games. They likely called the bedrooms by colour or the art that was in the room, like the blue room, the golden room, the Patridge room, the Peacock room etc.

Its too costly to maintain and upgrade, its cheaper and easier to move on and build aknew. Most folks could not afford to even heat a place like this, Disney could build 10 more and not blink an eye. Aritocraxies from the EU, Arab/Egyptian nations, and Asian nations.then they decided to create the last NWO in the 1700's after the mined as much of the natural resources as they could, and called it the USA. They built the train tracks long before for their mining and evenutual agriculture farms for cotton, corn, tobacco, potatoes, cattle, etc.

Woow Josh, I am still speechless after having watched this video about that beautiful abandoned château in France! Your enthusiasm is always so contagious! Absolutely wonderful location with still most of the rooms in an original well preserved state! - Hopefully it does not get vandalized ever! - The rooms were so filled with the atmosphere of the life back in the active days of this place. - Wonderful bedrooms in different colour schemes with furniture and decorative items matching perfectly together. - And my three favourite rooms were the theatre room, the grand dining hall and - of course also the breathtaking library. Wonderful! - I think I saw at least one of my explorer friends (from Bros of Decay and Explomo) also in that castle, which is amazing to see from the outside as well! Thank you so much, dear Josh, for taking us viewers on this wonderful and fascinating tour through that fairy tale like château! I enjoyed every second of your explore video! - Stay safe, peace and kindest regards from sunny Switzerland.

Walls used to be covered with batting and fabric, usually a damask or a mohair tracing back to traditions of full wall tapestries and silk wall hangings of nobility. The fabric served the purpose of helping to insulate rooms in addition to being a show of grandeur. Additionally, that small room would have likely been a maid's room of a sort, whether it was a tutor, a lady in waiting, or a nursemaid who needed to be close to their charge. The small room with the bottles would likely have been an alchemy or apothecary space, an in home doctor could tend to an elderly resident without having to leave. Or if somebody of the home was in to photography or science, it could have been a lab sort of space.

This is a gorgeous place. I would absolutely be taken away by seeing it in person. You being so excited about it was absolutely wonderful. It’s videos like this that we get to see how truly passionate you are about exploring these places. I hope you get to return here as many times as you want.

Those beds are hella crazy expensive nowadays you can't even get your hands on them you have to physically buy them and they're still so expensive to the point where when they auction them off it goes for over $1,000 just for a piece of it!

I can read the small book because I'm french and from France. It's talking about Geometry and Maths. they are trying to calcule something. The products you find are little dangerous if you don't know how to use it. I follow many french youtuber who do the same job like you but i can confirm you that i never seen this castle before. No one knows this one yet. I hope that if you stay many days in france you can explore more beautiful building because here, we have a loooooooooooot. You are in france and your french fans don't know ah ah... maybe i'm not the only one who want met you one day.

This castle is awesome! I couldn't imagen going to the outhouse middle of the night (when they didn't have bathrooms) back in those days. I sure hope this place could be saved. I have notices from your channel and Bros of Decay the abandoned places don't have lot of graffiti (like here in America does). Gives me an idea to do a castle build in the sims 4. :) The library is my fave. The dining room I could feel and picture family/friends sitting and eating in there or have meetings.

They probably used chamber pots, not outhouses.

No outhouse! These are super rich people, not ma and pa ingalls. They peed in a porcelain pot (I mean, assuming they aren’t disgusting, but who knows?)? The chamber maid would take out in the morning. Urine was often collected as it becomes ammonia, which is super useful and there haven’t always been Duponts around to make industrial chemicals. Even feces can become agricultural fertilizer, if it’s left for a long time.

9:29 that's an Inkwell stand desk set, 10:39 could be kiln-fired clay Pendants & Buttons, 36:16 Bernard Hepton? What a glorious find. That was spectacular.

At first, I thought the room in the servant's quarters with the bottles was like an in-home apothecary; a lot of those bottles are compounds that can be used medicinally. At the same time, though, it could also be a supply closet since some of those (including the poisonous one) are proper cleaning products, too, and it would seem illogical to keep medicinal things with another clearly labeled as toxic.

That small room connected to the larger bedroom with nice light, was probably a servants quarters, not a childs room.

The main hall is almost identical to the palace in Resident Evil Code Veronica. Same with the bedrooms with those tiny stairs. I wonder if this place was the inspiration behind the games locations. Either way, GREAT explore Josh!

Excellent exploration, but I imagine that a castle like this must have a basement to which they did not go, you should do the second part, greetings from Peru.

This was the best video of your channel. I have been watching you since your first exploration video, it's been so many years. I don't even comment (maybe once or twice at the beggining), but man....this was just....pure gold.
