I was there maybe 4 years ago and met Elmer, nice guy. He was having a lot of theft problems, so many he had to remove the tip jar because people were stealing that too.
We visited a few years back, and it is a great photo opp locations. So many colors and lots of fun to explore how light plays on the glass, perspective, and just the fun of it.
Oh how cool! Been wondering when this place would reopen. Seen many a video lately saying it was closed. You nailed the phone call though. It's just about the only thing I hear these days. 😂
OMG you've gone though the same 'auto warranty extension' calls that I have. I've blocked at least 100 of those guys and they still find me! Never been to the bottle tree ranch but looks like a fun visit next time we're on hwy 66.
I am convinced people living in desert areas go nuts sooner or later from the constant heat, and demonstrate their nuttiness by collecting things and displaying them in ways like this. Another example of having gone nuts is outdoor art work nobody in his or her right mind would find interesting or appreciate except that it's out in the heat, usually on flat ground, with plenty of sand and rock for miles around. Not that there's anything wrong with going nuts, it's just not a state-of-mind I'd care to experience, so I'll keep to my wet, rainy west coast in Oregon and those who like deserts can enjoy all they want without me getting in their way. Happy trails, desert lovers!
Bottle trees have an interesting history. They originated in the Congo and the practice was brought to the American South in the 17th century by African slaves. The upended bottles - particularly the dark blue ones - are thought to capture evil spirits. ❤
I do so hope that works. There's a lot of evil spirits these days, playing tricks on people and getting them to do things they shouldn't do. Yes, I really believe that. I am NOT a nut, thank you. Those African people had the right idea, trying to capture evil spirits. I wonder if they had a way to capture GOOD spirits and keep them around for good things to happen? Probably not with bottles, though.
Can you please do an episode about 29 Palms? I hear there are many art installations there and I am thinking about maybe buying some land and living off grid in that place... :)
We have a video on the channel about the Glass Outhouse in 29 Palms. There are a lot of fun places in that area, will probably do more around there in the fall.
Birds? That's surprising. Birds like real trees. What attracts them to pretend trees? Bugs? Bright colors? Sunlight reflecting off glass? Bird feeders? Water pans? Nesting places? Did you see any bottles with bird doo doo splattered on them? Doo doo hunting, an extra tidbit of fun!
That was great. You find the most interesting places. When I quit my job I plan to bike across the country then drive around and camp 🏕 around the West. I will be looking at your videos for interesting places. I really like Folk Art in spite of being a graduate of an At Academy. Check out Emery Blagdon’s Healing Machine. It’s in Nebraska but it’s fabulous. You might some day travel there. My heart 💟dropped when I saw that Fender Stratocaster up on a pole. 👍☮️🌞❤️🪛📞🎸
Would love to spend some time exploring Nebraska and that area. We were actually going to head out that way a couple years ago but then that whole pandemic happened.
