When i watched this film back in 1982, my theory was perhaps the message being sent with Halloween 3 was that maybe Michael Myers was actually a serial killer "ROBOT" & that's why he was hard to kill in the first 2 films. This film was the explanation.

I think if the 2nd Halloween hadn't been a Myers movie, then people would have been more willing to give SotW a chance. It's too bad too; I love the anthology idea and I really wish it had continued.

Carpenter didn't want to make a second Myers film. The studio saw the first film made a lot of money and ordered a part two hoping would be another hit, which it wasn't. Halloween II was made under protest.

@@nightmaretomb5294, Halloween 2 1981 was also great maybe not as great as Halloween 1978 but still it was a great movie.
@thehalloweenheavymetalmusicwar
Yes indeed! Had they not made people get too used to Michael Myers by making a Part 2 about him. Had they went with the anthology idea right away people probably would received and respected the anthology idea. To say the least even if they just had named it Halloween: Season of the Witch instead of Halloween 3: Season of the Witch people probably would've understood the Halloween Anthology series amd would've received it well, but all because of Halloween 2 is the reason why people did not receive Halloween 3 Season of the Witch well and gave it poor ratings. Also what made people not receive this movie well is also them looking at the other 2 Iconic horror villains Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees, they also started asking why Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees can have many sequels and not Michael Myers, which was also another reason why they had no choice but to bring the Michael Myers character back into the Halloween Franchise and still in today's day Michael Myers is a big hit under the Halloween name just like Freddy is in the Nightmare on Elm Street Franchise and Jason is in the Friday the 13th Franchise.
@thehalloweenheavymetalmusicwar
@@AmerIndianWarrior, There is a Fan Film here of the sequel to Halloween 3 Season of the Witch called The Return of the Witch, I don't know if you have seen it, but all I can say it was a terrible sequel, I felt the sequel could've been done better, if you see it you would agree as well. If anything yes if only Carpenter only had the idea right now to make an official sequel to the Halloween 3 Season of the With movie that would be great, I always wonder what happens after Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) yells "Stop It!!!!"

I personally found the atmosphere, music, and acting in Halloween III miles better than in the majority of the subsequent Myers heavy sequels. The one bit that still gives me chills for some reason is when Conal Cochrane tells Dr. Challis "Happy Halloween" when he's tied up. The way Dan O'Herlihy delivered that line was perfect.

Halloween should've been an anthology series, in fact, I like the idea of having Halloween as an anthology series, still have Halloween setting, but with different plot, different characters and different themes. The Michael Myers story will be strictly the original and II, while the third and later films will have completely different plot, characters, and theme, but no, fans can't accept change and Halloween III flopped, fans took a dump on this film and demanded Michael Myers back. And afterwards, the Halloween films got stale.

***** Friday the 13th Part 5 sucked too but not because Jason wasn't in it. The characters were all annoying as all hell. It depends. Some movies, like Jurassic World or Halloween 4 weren't groundbreaking but they were entertaining. Being "new" doesn't necessarily make something better or even good.
@Phoenix2312
@Phoenix2312 8 лет назад
+ninjaf00t I would never say that Halloween 3 is perfect - But what it did it did well... BUT - and its a big but... When Michael Myers was all that sold the franchise, that was bad news... And I am sorry but the same goes for Friday the 13th... I loved the movies at first - but the constant recurring Jason was in the end a joke! The only reason we all carried on watching was not actually for Jason, but to see how ridiculous they could get with the kills and how they were going to bring him back to life again in a more insane way... I would even go so far as to say that we have Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger to blame for the rumours of an 8TH SAW MOVIE!!!! Its become an ingrained fixation and its bad news... I like Rob Zombies Halloween and Halloween II - It will never be as good as the original but he has managed to do something that means there is possibility of a sequel - The twisted ending of Halloween II in his remake leaves it possible for someone else to become as deranged as him... So rather than trying to come up with ridiculous ways for him to cheat death... He is replaced... That actually works better than a constant "Ressurection"... Its cliche, Its dull and its ruining movies!!! Don't get me wrong - I am not slagging of FT13TH or Halloween - I love them, but you have to admit that they are pretty f**king ridiculous really...

After sticking on the video, I too was one of those people who couldn't believe their eyes, when it became apparent that Myers was not involved in the storyline. I didn't hate Resurrection either. I enjoyed how they poked fun at Reality TV, like MTV's Fear... which I loved. I also enjoyed the viewer commentary/watching party scenes as they mirrored watching bad horror films with your friends. Of course it ruined the ending of H20, so it probably would have been better as a stand alone film or a sequel to a different slasher film.
@BrandontheBeldam2993
@BrandontheBeldam2993 7 лет назад
FiercelyGold LOL on the viewers mirroring real audience watching bad horror films. Personally I didn't love all of H20. It was a better sequel, I found it mediocre. The best parts of the film was the focus of Laurie's character and her, I guess, PTSD if used in the correct way and the interactions with her real life mother Janet Leigh (psycho being one of my favorite films) and her facing off against Micheal. The ending was great too, but the bulk of the story was hit and miss for me. Not the Worst, but not the best and also I didn't mind Zombie's remake either.

I jjust watched "Halloween III" and I must say, the term "good bad film" fits it perfectly. It's low-budget and tacky at times, but the plot, if not believable, is actually pretty creepy. There's also a a bit of social commentary on consumerism (but again, hard to read too much into this.) Performances are solid, pacing is good and the soundtrack is pretty cool. Having the "Halloween" name was this movie's fatal flaw, because if you're expecting a Michael Myers slasher you're going to be pretty f'ing disappointed.

I hate sequels especially on horror movies (with the exception of the Freddy Krueger saga) but I liked Halloween 2 so I gave it a try, I didn't know what to expect. And I was blasted away! The idea behind this movie is great! The main theme of the Halloween saga is Halloween not Myers so it's a way to keep a movie franchise fresh and interesting everytime, sadly I discovered that most of people were outraged and Halloween 4 was just another Myers sequel. Totally underrated classic. Unfairly judged because of no Michael Myers. If you open your mind watching this it really does make for a scary concept. The thought that someone evil could emilinate you via your TV screen, using ancient mystical powers. Hearing in the news this week that new technology TV sets can actually listen to your conversations. This concept is now well set to get a big budget remake to cash in on people's fears of technologies power to get into your home without you realising it. The possibilities with today's mobile phones, laptops and tablets are endless to bring this story up to date. One of the great cult classics

mathmoslover76 Yes, I agree this movie should be remade. With all the technology taking over our lives it is a perfect time for Halloween 3 again. The sky's the limit on what they could do....The Halloween 3 remake IS up next. Do we really need another Michael Myers movie anyway? I mean how many more times can they flog that horse? Carpenter should come back and make it and maybe we can get the anthologies like he originally planned...

I have always told people that Halloween 3 was the Halloween film for those who accepted the death of Michael Myers in Halloween 2. So, apparently I was one of the few that accepted Season of the Witch on it's own terms back in 1982 and was hoping that the anthology concept would catch on, but alas, it was not meant to be.

Even as a kid, it was refreshing to see Halloween go in a new direction. Michael Myers has NEVER been scary after the 1st, and the "series" had no business following the footsteps of its imitators. The score is some of Carpenter's coolest synth work (pre-Lost Themes 1&2). Tom Atkins is the best character ever to be associated with the franchise and it sucks to think how many awesome stand-alone films we could've had by now.

i'm only replying here so future readers of this comment are warned - this film is absolutely terrible. just a crap film, let alone in the horror genre. and what the hell is it doing as a halloween sequel? has nothing to do with it. i kinda thought h3 might have been some shit that had no name so the studio called it halloween 3 so they could break even at the box office (even if it was shit and you tell someone its halloween the fans will always want to see for themselves so.... ) fyi do not pay a single penny for this film and save the 2hrs of your life for something worth while (make a cake, write a letter to your family or even read a book!)

The film isn't hated because of it's originality, it's hated because the marketing team chose to trick people into seeing it by acting like it was a follow-up to the previous movies rather than it's own thing.

I saw Halloween 3 for the first time 6-7 years ago and I didn't think much of it, but I'd much rather have seen unique and different Halloween films than more of the same movie over and over again. Myer's story would have been best ended at part 2.

But the style and theme and homage is Halloween through and through! Like when the shady guys are watching people in the foreground of shots or driving by in cars at slow speed. Masks, the music, a Dr. going around investigating and trying to convince people of things. It is a Halloween movie and a good one. It should not be considered a black sheep.

Halloween 3 is an excellent movie. I can watch it every single time it is on. Many people thought this movie didn't tie in with the other Halloween movies, but we later learned that is not true. This "cult" in Halloween 3 is simply the same "cult" that is seen in Halloween 5 and Halloween 6. Conal Cochran clearly said he does things when "the planets line up." This agrees with what Tommy said in Halloween 6 when the stars line up to form the Thorn constellation.

This movie is really unique and that's what I like about it. I always wrote this movie off when I was younger when I had first discovered the Halloween franchise. The music and the eerie atmosphere is what sells it to me. While watching The Guest, it brought me back to H3 and how similar some parts are. Overall H3 is one of my favorites no doubt.

you know, mainstream movies would never cast someone like Tom Atkins as a lead today- pretty sad... even if they have an older actor in the lead, like Clooney or something, they still have to go "silver fox" if they haven't got "pretty boy"- like an audience's main concern is watching someone who's good looking..Yes, some people DO go to see a movie because it's channing tatum or ryan gosling or whatever, but the general viewing public are pretty easily swayed by marketing and will go see whatever looks like it'll be exciting or funny generally...

I saw this on VHS as a kid in 1983 (after seeing and loving one and two) and absolutely loved it. It's such a great film, especially the scene where Cochran explains his plan to Challis and ends with the most evil 'Happy Halloween' ever said in the history of anything, ever. That one line is enough to give this movie four fucking stars.

I've loved this movie since I was about 14 years old when I first saw it in the late 90's. My older brother and his friend would always go rent random horror movies and I'd usually force my way into to the room to watch whatever they had brought home. I remember the first time I saw it I was really intrigued by the moodiness and creepy atmosphere. Watching it today, I find I like it more and more each time I watch it. As far as I am concerned the Myers' Halloweens ended with the original. The sequels are derivative crap with no taste. H3 on the other hand has it all: fantastic synth score, perfect pacing and moodiness, memorable characters and quotes, great looking cinematography, good gore that isn't over the top, unique story, early 1980's charm. I could go on and on. If you don't understand why this movie is great then we probably can't be friends.
