Movies will be worse off when he's gone.....Film is already kinda trash with everything being a god damned comic book movie, has to cost 200 million dollars and the mental midgets who cry that if something doesn't make a billion dollars or more its a flop... Movies were so much better before everything became an MCU film or PG-13 horror trash....Movies used to be something you watched to enjoy, now they're made so those same mental midgets can talk about how much money a movie they have no stake in made.

Joe Dante tells a story about Corman. In a conversation about low budget Corman film making, Joe said Roger told him that “if you do 2 successful films for me, you’ll never have to work with me again” . It’s true, you earn your chops working for Corman. I worked on 10 pictures for Roger in the ‘70’s and moved on to bigger and better things. New World Pictures was my film school

The alien looks pretty decent (as far as all of the various *Alien* rip-offs go)… I think it’s the flailing arms that make it so janky. Get it some proper puppetry (and make the body non stationary) and it would be up there with the Alien Queen.

We all have to love the great Roger Corman...he, staff & protege's definitely make the most without having a lot of resources. "Dead Space" is goofy & extremely campy , but still a watchable popcorn sci fi horror. I have a guilty pleasure for "Forbidden World" aka " Mutant". Like you once said Cecil, "The sleaziest sci fi horror movie ever"...Hell yes it was & a lot of fun, Its crazy. Marc Singer seems like a nice guy & I'm a big fan of "V" that's coming up on its 40th anniversary. Too bad that we will probably never see John Carpenter's "Dead Space". It would have been a great way to end his great career.

It's pretty sad that there isn't somebody working today who could follow in the footsteps of Roger Corman. At least not as far as I know. I'm pretty sure with the right ideas and business model the Corman spirit could be kept alive even today. Just look at RU-vid how many interesting fresh talents are out there who mostly never get a shot in Hollywood. Lots of potential to make great low budget entertainment. Greetings from Germany :)

@@adamvegas5951 No, their movies are much too expensive and take to long to film. ;) A24 is a great studio, but their concept is more about creating high quality independent productions. Corman would have produced 10 movies with what they're investing in one production. ;) Greetings from Germany
@moserfugger6363
@moserfugger6363 Год назад
@@CantankerousDave Yeah, Kaufman will also leave a huge gap when he retires. I love his work, but Corman is more versatile. Troma is focussed on producing genre stuff with an comedic edge. Corman on the other hand did everything from drama to space opera. Another one of those independent veterans would be Charles Band with FullMoon Pictures. His productions also got much smaller, but overall he's the only one left who is comparable to Corman and still puts out several releases per year. Greetings from Germany

Small correction about Planet Bur. This is one of my favorite films since I first saw it in the 80s. The actual transliteration is 'Planeta Bur' with an extra A and soft R at the end. Because it's a transliteration, the 'Bur' is not the name of the planet but a plural of 'storms'. So it goes more like Planeta bur - Планета бурь - Planet of the Storms.

Never heard of this film, but I'll give it a watch when I get round to it. It's quite a coincidence because I've recently been reading the Star Wars legends novel, Death Troopers. Written by Joe Schreiber, it's about an Imperial biohazard weapon called the blackwing virus, which can turn anyone into zombies. The survivors of a prison barge have to fight off the dead, while trying to find a way to stop it on a derelict star destroyer where the virus began. I've bought a prop replica of the blackwing virus off Etsy, which is a medical glass vial, the kind you normally see in laboratories. On it, is a label written in aurebesh language, as seen in the Star Wars universe. Inside is this grey liquid with red spores, that float about when you move it. I've also purchased a tube container, to keep the vial safe from getting damaged. The finishing touches are adding some vinyl stickers, the Galactic Empire's symbol and biohazard warning signs. I'm tempted to get another blackwing virus vial from Etsy, there's enough room in the container for one more.

@@cmmosher8035 The thing that always creeped me the most about the first film is Micheal Ironside's character whenever I think about a shadey government agent who would kill anybody or everybody in order to keep the USA's secrets at times I felt Micheal's character was more scarier then the ''Outsider'' itself IMHO.

Another great Exploring video! I saw last year Scream Factory put this out on BluRay as a site exclusive with limited copies. It had a extended cut on it, did you get that bluray and is the longer cut better or no? thanks Cecil!
@GoodBadFlicks

Thanks! Yeah, it has the longer cut which has a little more character devolpment but nothing huge. Its about 5 mins longer.

So it went from sharing the name of one survival horror franchise to sharing the name of a completely different survival horror franchise? What next, a movie called "Silent Hill" that's later renamed "Fatal Frame"?

I've been waiting a long time for you to do "Humanoids From the Deep" Its been mentioned before on here. This was one of those movies that scared the hell out of me as a kid. That and the movie "Dogs" 1978. It's cool if you dont get to it, Im still going to keep watching as I always do. Cheers.

Loved 'Dogs,' and still do; caught it by accident one morning on the overnight movies (as a mid-teen), and from then on, kept my eyes open in order to record this gem of a flick. A terrific idea, limited to (but not hampered by) isolated locations and a relatively small ensemble (except for the campus scenes), but still very effective as a thriller and also as a production. Still get a chuckle every time I think of David McCallum pronouncing the word 'coyote'!

Maybe it is me looking through rose tinted glasses at a pool over-flowing with naivety and nostalgia but, the (low) budget films of yonder year, including as recently as the 70s, 80s and 90s seemed to have a certain je ne sais quoi that the Platinum Dunes' and The Asylums' of more recent decades (with their rip-offs and mockbusters), rarely, if ever, have.
@GoodBadFlicks
@GoodBadFlicks Год назад
I think there is a reason these films are still being enjoyed while many of the more current low budget movies are often quickly forgotten.

I was expecting the story about the editor being fired to have some kind of payoff, like the guy was now a highly respected and talented film maker.

Just like Pro Wrestling, the industry has lost its middle sized players that help innovate & create talent.

someone pointing out, same happened with video games industries. nowadays, it's between triple A or indie. only European and Japan still produced middle size games

So was the movie Dead Space the inspiration for the video game? Because I did notice some similarities.
