I was recently invited to spend a couple of days exploring Ireland on a number of Honda DCT bikes. Four to be precise, the Africa Twin, X-Adv, NT1100 and the mighty Goldwing 1800. We started just outside Dublin and on day 1 headed over the Wicklow Mountains, down through New Ross and along the coast past Kilmurrin Cove to the outskirts of Cork. This video is a little bit of bike info, some nice scenic rides through the South East of Ireland and some behind-the-scenes views of what goes on at Honda press events!

On a travel bike I think dct is a great option, and the Xadv a tremendously practical bike. A tour on one with done luggage would be hoot. Beautiful scenery. Ashamed to say I've never been. And it's on the doorstep! Goid one. Safe, happy travels 👍

Nice always Ireland Tubeless tires I with you on that, fun fact I just found out ,the first motorcycle to use tubeless tires was the Honda CX 500 and its Comstar wheels. I was watching FortNine's channel and he mentioned something about that and I looked it up and sure enough.

Rode a DCT, AT, not for me. I like to do the work myself. I have ridden a Goldwing, without DCT, for me it would suit this bike better. Great vid. Cheers.

I think the DCT concept is a great idea, having had mainly GS'S of various types over the years a couple of years ago I decided to buy an Africa Twin Adventure Sport with DCT. I loved the DCT and the bike itself was good, however issues with the screen ( and I tried a couple of variations) and a very uncomfortable seat ( for me) made it a very uncomfortable ride, hence to say I am back on a GS. But as i approach my seventies I do keep an interest in the XADV could this be the bike for my later years of riding?
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 11 месяцев назад
Yep the screen either workd for you or it doesn't, luckily I seem to be OK with the adventure sports adjustable screen, but it does depend somewhat on what helmet i'm wearing

The AT has switchable ABS for the rear tyre, even with the DCT model. It has the IMU to sense what's happening in 4D. Could you try to find with Honda's engineers what happens with another model like the X-ADV. If the ABS was disabled intentionally (say via fuse disconnnection like some people do with the Cb500X), how the DCT would cope with wheel locks in the long run? Or the system isn't fit to deal with it and will eventually degrade and snap? Obviously where neglecting warranties here.
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 11 месяцев назад
Sadly as you point out in your last line, because the warranty would be invalidated no one from Honda would go anywhere near answering that question! I can try though, but I’m not that hopeful

I wonder why the NC750 wasn't included. Is it because it is coming to the end of product life or perhaps because they can sell as many as they can make?
@mancavemoto

There were some there, being ridden by the crew and internal team, but it was just the four bikes they concentrated on 🤷‍♂️

But, you can't rev the engine at a stop light. People whoive doing that eventually do that whiskey throttle thing into a car or ditch. Manual with a quick shifter for me.
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto Год назад
You can if you pop it into neutral 😉 and it is possible to do a little blip in gear. But why do you need to Rev at a stop light? 🤔
