4:48 that ds is actually a really good option for a game boy macro mod, if you've ever heard of those. You take off the top screen, and even though the touchscreen doesn't work, the game boy function is perfect! Certainly a great value for an in-box ds.

That’s really smart 😅 especially because you wouldn’t need the touch screen! I’d love to try my hand at that mod someday..🤔

I go often visit when driving through the Tama area, but this is not even close to the biggest or cheapest game store or even Hard Off! It barely takes an hour to browse (at least the game related things in the Hard Off area), while other stores can be almost the size of a football field. I recommend you take the drive north to Niigata for other multi-story Hard Offs in their home area or to go west to the (honestly better for collectors) Surugaya stores in Shizuoka (as the newly remodeled main store in Shizuoka city is amazing). Of course the best stores for treasure hunting will likely always be the kanteidan warehouses, especially in north Kanto and Tohoku but also a few good ones are in Chubu or rural Kanto. And just common courtesy for the channel owner if you did not know, but in this country it is illegal to film and publish peoples' faces, even incidentally, without permission... I don't think anyone would find themselves in your videos and then go through the effort to complain but maybe be careful in the future or use blurring! Also, unless a store specifically has a sign posted giving permission to film inside a store, it is seen as really impolite to do so before asking permission, and you might get banned if being seen as a nuisance to shoppers... PLEASE go to a staff member and ask 動画を撮っても構いませんか? It is rough as a foreigner just trying to browse while holding my phone, as I am often asked if I am filming because of others previously... I hope this trend is reversed because the atmosphere in game shops in Japan has really changed compared to 20 years or even 5 years ago... In any case, sorry for the long comment, and good luck to you and your channel and your time in Japan, wherever it may lead you!

I really appreciate the informative and well thought out comment! I definitely appreciate the feedback as well. I only just very recently started to make videos about my Hard off adventures and am not sure if I want them to be a main focus of the channel or a series to put out every so often, but regardless it’s feedback like this that will help me to improve both my storytelling and my overall awareness 😊 I’ve been thinking about visiting some of the further countryside hardoffs (it’s been years since I last visited them and I didn’t think to document it back then 🤔) and for this video wanted to highlight hachioji because I thought it may be an easier location for over seas visitors to check out. Definitely important to be considerate of other customers and I’ll be mindful of that as well!

Hard Off prices have skyrocketed and it's not worth it anymore btw. It's better if you go to non well known hard off stores, separated from the crowded areas or in smaller cities. Even in Kyoto. Prices are simply, not worth it anymore thanks to scalpers.

You make a good point. I sometimes remember the prices of things I found 7-8 years ago and wince at what they are now 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ It almost seemed like a secret club back then. I still enjoy going because of the thrill when I do find something rare or interesting. But nowadays it’s almost guaranteed to cost a pretty penny

@TryJapan yeah, your best bet nowadays is going to the junk section, and try to find gold there. Other than that, general second-hand electronic stores in smaller cities are where the best prices are.
