[Exploring Korean Literature] From Cuddly Pets to Companions (애완동물에서 반려동물로) 

Animals have lived together with humans in the past and present. Recently, attitudes towards pets haves changed from adorable pets to cherished companions. The way pets are illustrated in literature has also undergone a transformation due to changing perceptions of pets over time. There is the book "Burying the Dog" written by Lee Si-won in the Joseon Dynasty that was dedicated to the subject of pets. "Lives of Cats" is a more recent literary work where cats take center stage. Through these works and more, we will search for answers on what makes a a pet a true companion in the literary sense.
과거에도 현재에도 늘 인간과 함께 해온 동물. 최근엔 단순히 키우는 애완동물에서 삶의 동반자인 반려동물로 인식이 변화했다. 우리 문학작품 속에 등장하는 동물들의 모습도 이러한 인식 변화에 따라 달라졌다. 조선시대에 쓰인 이시원의 [개를 묻으며]부터 고양이가 주인공인 현대문학작품 [묘씨생] 등을 통해, 인간과 동물의 진정한 ‘동반’에 대한 문학적 해답 찾아본다.
