I agree with Ernie -- his death was pointless. The real surprise would have been if he HAD survived (much like in Deep Blue Sea's final twist, another fun movie).

I wonder if that is one of the secret rules of horror films that no one talks about. If you have more than one black actor in your horror movie chances go up that at least one will survive the entire thing.

Maybe you just have to be a rapper, and demand that they write a clause in your contract saying that they can't kill you. That's the rumour about LL Cool J that's been going around for years.

Very nice job on the video. Leviathan is one of my personal favorite films of all time. Love the score by Jerry Goldsmith, I never understood the bashing against Stan Winston's FX, great lines of dialogue, wonderful cast, very solid production design by Ron Cobb, likable characters, and having the film take place underwater gave it a different feel than flicks like Alien or The Thing.

I have a theory that the monster at the end is actually a another monster made from the two bodies flushed out. It was never shown coming back inside but rather a severed piece of it creating sea slug(with BIG teeth) that starts off the primary monster seen in the film. The primary monster was even seen having its head crushed by the massive dive platform while stuck in an imploding underwater base while the one at the end is intact The two things I have problems with the film are mentioned in this video. One is Ernie Hudson's character just getting "a bridge dropped on him". It would have been much better if at least he kills the monster instead of being killed without any effort. The other is lack of good shots of the monster. Its fantastic looking and when you see pieces of it its terrifying as a chimeric monster. The part where its tentacle/tail is used to attack makes me think of the Snake tail on the classic Chimera.
@pinkacid

Believe it or not- you’re right- it is the first monster of Six Pack and Bowman that got flushed out- you even see poor Bow’s face shown closeup, fused into the conglomeration beast’s torso Xx

Based upon what you said, I'm surprise that the movie was able to finish production. I wish critics would sometimes stop comparing movies with other movies and simply look at the movie as it's own. That Ernie Hudson after credits scene was ridiculously funny; the best that I've seen of all your after credit scenes so far, and I've been binge watching your videos since yesterday. On a different note I have mixed feelings about the scene that you said probably would not go over well today. On the one hand I can see it "possibly" promoting domestic violence against women but on the other hand, I can see it also promoting equality where a man is not afraid to hit a evil person be a man or woman.

I remember watching this when I was 12 years old. My parents had recorded it from TV to VHS, like a lot of the movies in their collection, then had it and all their others burned on DVDs as DVDs are easier to transport. They had it on the same DVD as Salems Lot, a Vampire Flick that you might like to review as well ;) For me it remains one of my favorite deepsea movies, and scared the shit out of me at the time. Even now when seeing that last frantic escape sequence, I still get ultra-tense. Oh yeah, and that last scene, that was and still is just satisfying to me. Man or Woman, if you almost got me killed or something you deserve a punch, easy as that.

I watched this movie alot when I was a kid. When I finally found on dvd as an adult I watched it and still love the movie to this day. I did laugh at one scene where someone I think Ernie Hudson is holding open a electronic door with all his might and says "hurry up guys I can't hold it much longer." So the two people finally get to the door and the door closes on the last person but the door kind of wiggles instead the door in reality cutting the person in half or the person just getting stuck.

Just saw it for the first time tonight, and although it borrowed heavily from alien, it was still a fun ride. I couldn't believe the shoddy ending was kept, with the red herring shark that didn't do anything but leave them alone, followed by Ernie Hudson's pointless death. I laughed as apparently coast guardsmen apparently aren't issued basic weapons like a sidearm, and just stood there watching the strange monster devour one of the OG Ghostbusters. Still, good fun

Some RU-vid film critic could do an entire month worth of episodes based off "Ocenanic Horror Films of 1989".

That last part....that was my favorite scene in the film! "Gone? Bitch we still here!"

oh wow! I used to really love watching this movie when I was a kid.sure it's not the most original. sure there were better movies in the genre but it was fun for what it was.

Leviathan's movie poster looks amazing. In contrast the Abyss's poster looks like an underwater version of The Thing. Will have to check out Deep Star Six.

I always felt this was a sequel to The Thing. As if an infected dog or person ended up at a Rusdian bases and was being transported from Antarctica when the ship sank

THANK YOU. I've been trying to find out what the title was to Deep Star Six because I saw it on TV a long while ago.

Amazing history. I couldn't agree more about this movie standing on it's own. It was great.

Very good informative in depth review! I just discovered the film 2 years ago since i am a Big Peter Weller fan and i was amazed! I love movies that have to do with water/under water so this was just the right flick for me and i thought that it was better than Deep Star six !
