Yeah, definitely works out with the two cars but made for a super long day. We had that 20 minute drive back to the marina at the end on top of a hour and forty to home. Got home right before the really heavy storms hit!
Thanks for making these videos. They look great and is the exact info I needed including side trips. I am planning on hiking the NJ AT in sections as you are doing but I will be doing solo. I will be starting as soon as the rain lets up. I live in Brick NJ so will be driving up and either doing 1 or 2 sections then staying at a motel for the night or driving back home depending on how I feel. I see you have an alltrails map at the end. I typically follow existing alltrails routes. Did you use an existing route in alltrails, I couldn't find one, or just make your own. If you made you own do you just go to where you want to start and click navigate? Thanks.
We are so glad we have inspired you to hit the AT! We're planning to take on section three next weekend (we had some scheduling conflicts). We made our own AllTrails routes and shared the links for them in our first video's description "How To Section Hike Appalachian Trail Through New Jersey". See if you can access them. If any issues let us know and we'll figure out a way to get them to you. If you want to create your own, you need to have an AllTrails+ subscription. There's a "Create a map" function that lets you draw out the route on their map. Actually, you've given us the idea to upload a video on how to do this!
The AllTrails stats at the end of this video do show our actual time of 8 hours, but we made several detours like the Wawayanda shelter for lunch and looking for bathrooms at the park, and one of our party moves pretty slow in general so we took many breaks along the way. AllTrails estimated this hike at 5 hours. Depending on your ability I imagine it should fall somewhere in between.
I am very glad we left a full day as opposed to trying to rush through this section, we hiked Thursday and total time on trail took us 7 hours…the pre-hike from parking area to state line kicked my ass! We did section 2 Friday and found it a bit easier going. Your videos were invaluable as it gave us a guide as to how to use two cars effectively…thanks again
@@jakebarnes37 You are so very welcome! Glad to hear you had an enjoyable and safe hike. It’s very pleasing to know we were helpful. We’re really leaning towards hiking the Connecticut sections this season. We may have to wait until late April or early May to start up at the Massachusetts border. The area is more remote and roads are closed during the winter. Are you planning the remaining NJ sections soon?
