Just found this & hoping Michael & Jessica are still getting notifications on it lol. My Uncle’s built the original haunted house there in the early ‘90’s & those wooden stairs u walked down were put in by them, they were the exit back then. The freight elevator was what was used to bring patrons down into the haunted house originally. They owned the haunted house from I believe from ‘92 - ‘97/‘98. As we were building it, a friend & I went exploring very late one night down there & came across a old fire door that was cabled shut but u could peek in just enuff to get ur head in & a flashlight & we noticed the cable was attached to a pillar, we went & got crowbars & pried it open enuff to get in & found the Lemp caves, needless to say, we explored them completely for like the next 4 hours or so! It was amazing & no one had been in them in prolly over 50/60 yrs. The remains of the swimming pool were still there, along with the theater & many other things down there. We found a path that lead all the way down to a dead end which is where highway 55 is now, we were so deep underground that my cigarette went out & my lighter wouldn’t work 😂 My Uncle also took John Pertzborn ( a tv reporter ) down into the caves & it was aired on his show Pertzborn’s People! My Uncle almost got sued over it. Jess u stated in the video u worked in the haunted house back in the day…. Was it Haunted Caverns of the Lemp Brewery? Really curious lol & great video BTW 😉

Hooray! So happy you got to go here! ❤️ I went on media night the first year the haunt opened in 1995. I was staying just down the street at the time with my grandmother. Her place has been haunted for decades and she seems to think it might be due to the brewery and mansion being so close. The caves and tunnels actually extend beneath her house and believes this might be why we’ve had so much activity.

Many of the old tunnels expanded across downtown. My mom told me some entrances were near the Mississippi river (now closed up) This occurred maybe about 5 years ago, a sink hole opened up on 6th Street and there was a old tunnel underneath. Someone's car got stuck in it, it was crazy! So whenever you drive or walk around downtown St Louis, there are tunnels below you.

Those large rooms were to store beer back before automatic refrigeration was possible. The caves under St. Louis attracted William Lemp from Germany because he could use them to make lagger beer. There are hidden caves all over the metro area, most which access has been removed.

If you’re interested in The Lemps…American Hauntings podcast did a deep dive into the Lemp family. Troy Taylor who hosts the podcast is a STL/ILL historian and has researched the entire family. His book Suicides &Spirits is a very good read. They kept the beer in those caverns prior to refrigeration. That building needs to be saved!!!!! It’s so much more than a haunted house

Great video. I took a haunted tour through there last summer and the guide showed us a white room in one of the basements where the killer may have kept his victims. A lot of this is hard to verify since its hard to find a good source through. I'm guessing that freight shaft you showed heads to the Cherokee cave section. That's where you will find the remains of a pool and a theater the Lemps used. I really wish they would do occasional tours down there, I'd sign up in a heart beat.

Back when I was in college, before the haunted attraction took over, they would fill the tunnels with fog around Halloween and you would take an old freight elevator down to the tunnels. There you could walk through the underground brewery in the fog, pretty much all the way back to the mansion if I remember right. They didn't need actors or props down there. It was terrifying on its own. I've been through the current haunted attraction as well and it was a blast. Tons of fog and very disorienting!

That wasn't the actual caves. That's just in the basements. There are 26 buildings, many have atleast 1 level underground, but some have 2. They almost all connect to each other. But the real cave system there is only 1 way in and out from the basements. It was probably blocked off completely when the haunted house was built. I worked there in 2009-10. They were still getting permits and just starting the haunted house job when I left. Looks like the built a lot down there. It was creepier how it was. I always said just give people a dim flashlight and walk around, people would pay $30 for that. Haha

I wonder how long and how much effort it takes to build and set up something so detailed like this place. Every prop on every inch of every corner is strategically positioned to look very realistic and, if you think about it, a lot of that would never been even noticed when it's on, because of the darkness. This is an actual museum of horror art!

This has to be the spookiest scary video tour I've seen! What makes it special is that it's a REAL building where people once worked. The building itself is well structured and solid. I am amazed that so much detail went into creating the figures, rooms and hallways. I noticed something that caught my eye: At 7:25 in the corner I see a toilet, a bathtub (?) and beside it, sitting on a stool is what looks to be an old typewriter. If that is a typewriter, well then, I better take out my typing ribbon and type in my SAVE spot because I may want to go back and continue with my journey :) Thank you Grimm for keeping me at the edge of my seat!

I love it when haunt animatronics have clearly been used and abused for years. Several times in this video, you can see duct tape repairs and pool noodle arms on the animatronics. You can also see ripped latex with the foam showing through. And various repairs on the props. I think that can make them more creepy. I love it.

This is so cool that you got exclusive access to the underground tunnels. I've heard that the Lemp Family had a pool in the tunnel that was heated by the brewery's boilers. That would be cool to see if it still exists down there. Next time you visit STL you should go check out Haunted Alton and the statue of the tallest man to ever live. The area is dangerous since the guide told me that if you stand in the watered areas the chemicals will pick up and can cause you to pass out. I also saw the marbled cave pool where the very rich swam, and the spot where 2 people were trampled to death from a cave fire, and the spot where someone fell down the well and died from impact. It was creepy seeing burnt up fire hoses that were left behind. It's true it's really cold down there!

That was cool and creepy as hell. I could walk through it with the lights on. But not with the lights off. I've always wanted to go see the lemp mansion, but I don't see myself getting there anytime soon. But cool video. Thanks for doing this

I stayed at the Lemp Mansion. So much fun found a ghost cat during the tour. The lady across the room said you have a cat rubbing on my leg in the very upstairs. Someone knocked on our door no one was there. They said it was possibly Billy Lemps son. He liked to play pranks. I'm so jealous yall got to go through the brewery. We almost got to go under ground of the Mansion until another couple came down.

I have wanted to see inside of that building for sometime. Thanks for exploring and showing the sites as you go. HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃!!!

Man this might be one of the coolest haunts I’ve seen. It’s in a very pretty old fashioned building right in the city and the use of gothic looking interiors and the high quality props are all so cool. Even if it’s not very conventional, it still has an amazing atmosphere. Edit: 22:14 omg you got me lmao
