I remember going through the tight tunnels twice because of Outdoor Odyssey. Really humbling and terrifying experience. It felt like the tunnel lasted for miles.

I grew up nearby and used to explore Bear Cave frequently in High School (back in the 80's). I vividly recall the tunnels that had to be traversed on your belly and elbows (you couldn't get to knees). There is another small cave adjacent to Bear Cave, but at least back then, it had been closed with iron bars, allegedly because some kids had gone in there drinking and a girl fell and was seriously injured. If you ask me, it's not the cave's fault if someone does something dumb like drinking and spelunking.

I went to Derry High School in the 90s. Man, it's been 25+ years since I've seen the inside of the Bear caves. It was a mad uphill hike to get up there. Thanks for sharing! Another cool spot is High Rocks, take High Street up out of Derry, and it's hidden off to the right of the road on the way up the ridge. Some massive cliffs. Those were some awesome hangout spots back in the day.

I went through that tunnels he’s worming through and let me tell ya it is TIGHT. My helmet got stuck so many times and if I remember right it’s at least 100 yards or crawling. I was only like 14 at the time it was terrifying

I grew up here and have explored this cave. It was our playground back when kids used to actually go outside.

I grew up there. Never been inside but it's crazy how detailed the stories of it were that I've been told. Never been much for tight places and never had anyone to push me to go 😂

Where is this located. If this is barricade in the lower part of Michigan, it says you can only enter through the gift shop.

I used to think of caves as easy to walk through….
@obscureadventures5349
@obscureadventures5349 Год назад
haha they come in all shapes and sizes! I've been to some that you walk through most of it, and then some that you stand up for maybe 5% of the trip. And then theres the real fun ones that you wade or swim through! The West Virginia caves are usually larger than PA and have alot of walking passage.

It's in Hillside, a little outside of Blairsville off RT.217 before you reach Derry if you're coming from Rt.22. It would be opposite from Rt.30. Back when we would go, there was a house where we would stop and sign in and park, and I believe had maps of the cave. Can't drive up, but you had to hike up an old rocky trail about a mile, maybe? All up hill. I'm not sure how it is now, though. It's been many years since I've been there.
