according to a louis SA i spoke to, essentially every piece in the collection will be exclusively made-to-order via in-store, so you won't be seeing any of it on shelves

Thanks for this insight! Definitely explains a lot as I couldn’t really see these pieces hitting the shelves. Are you planning on picking up any?

Great video, Micah! Really like the in depth analysis and even the market point of view. I honestly like the dandy-chanel-inspired looks the best from the collection and hate the overused camo motifs lol. And LV is famous for releasing different version of goods from the one shown in the runaway, like the yellow one that P's carrying, I believe that's personal made. In the end of the day, LV needs profit and their merchandise machine will make the cheaper and tone down version from the runaway looks for the mass market.
@mrdecember
@mrdecember Год назад
Thanks for watching! It’s a shame LV release watered-down versions of pieces, if they release them at all, since they already have the market of consumers willing to buy the more “experimental” pieces. In this case tho, the Millionaire bag Pharrell’s been wearing isn’t custom and appears to have been confirmed for sale @ $1 Million USD 😮 Another commenter said they spoke to their client advisor @ LV who confirmed almost all pieces will be made to order, rather than produced in advance. So I guess this lines up with my theory about LV not seeing this as “commercial” as reviewers have made the collection out to be.

Have a look at US Army desert camouflage pattern used for it's uniforms. That's the origin of the pattern's design. I've repurposed actual Army desert camo to make reversible concealed vented bucket hats for my own artisan sustainable brand (The New Zion). BTW: Langley, Virginia is also the HQ of the CIA.

thank you somebody finally put it into words. i thought its cause i just loved Virgils work so much (and im sure thats a big reason) but i really didnt like Pharrell’s debut. and when you deep how some of the looks look like chanel and what not, that pretty much answers it. over 70% of the looks were things i would never walk into LV store wanting to buy. there’s a reason i dont wear chanel so why would i want to wear some of the looks he showcased? and apparently if you dont absolutely praise the collection then you a hater..

Commercial in the sense that, these pieces are to be sold to Pharrells immediate circle and rappers.The collection has a showy nature to it which is what artists and rich people love to use as cosplay to display societal status.
@mrdecember
@mrdecember Год назад
Definitely agree with you! The general opinion I saw circulated was that Pharrell made the collection to be super commercial to consumers, as a way to discredit the collection / explain his hiring. I was trying to highlight that I don’t feel as though this is the case since, when we analyse it, the collection isn’t nearly as “commercial” for consumers as people made out at all!
@HassanAyub-fd8bm
@HassanAyub-fd8bm Год назад
@@mrdecember Absolutely! You did an incredible job of dissecting his references and pointing out the different aspects of the collection that were largely overlooked. Definitely earned a new sub from me. I do believe that narrative, comes from the trendy cuts and direct references that could be attributed to brands like Chanel for his "dandy"looks and even Margiela for the mary jane shoes used on the runway. Largely though, fashion is too overly saturated with trends for the average consumer to even know where those references come from though.

Great overview of the collection, loved the analysis of it’s commerciality and was interesting to hear about colm’s experience with lv. I think the bags due to their price will mainly be seen on celebrity’s and major influencers. Maybe LV will produce similar looking cheaper ‘takedown’ models allowing their lower income customer to buy into that look and for them to maximise profit. I also wonder wether influencers buying counterfeits will increase with the price point becoming even crazier lol
@mrdecember
@mrdecember Год назад
Really glad you enjoyed it! Maybe it’ll make a video on it soon, but I’ve seen A LOT of things recently that LV are looking to “upscale” the perception of their own brand, particularly the leather goods, and have it more in line with Hermes. They’ve been doing things like unnecessarily creating waiting lists for their most popular bags and increasing prices A LOT. I didn’t get it at first, but with the recent news of Hermes now becoming the 2nd most valuable luxury brand in the world, I guess it makes sense why they’d want to be more like them.
@billywillis8532
@billywillis8532 Год назад
@@mrdecember aha definitely could see why LVMH would choose to take this route as it's the next step to continue maximising profits whilst raising their profile which will allow them to justify further pricing increases. I could see them changing where their concessions are and focusing on a personal boutique type experience experience like other ultra luxury retailers to aid with this shift in market positioning.

We need videos like these. Instead of throwing collections away as nothing more then usual commercial luxury house runways, u try to understand it even and then give an opinion. Even with all this background and explanation on the collection I simply think it’s distasteful but I appreciate the ideas and work put behind it
