Thanks for taking time to show this historical Model Village, Ifirst leant of this village many years ago, I was serving in the army in Germany, one of the lads was from Port Sunlight and his love of the village shone through. His surname is Belis.
This would be greatly improved by some information. Pointing a camera can work but not in this instance. Calling it ‘Tudor Style’ is just plain ignorant. There is no such thing. It’s mostly Arts and Crafts for the cottages, gothic for the church etc. In contrast to the vernacular inspiration for the cottages, the layout is extremely formal. You notice there are no garages. Cars are at the back. Originally this was for hanging out washing etc so as not to spoil the appearance. Lever who owned the place was teetotal so there is a temperance hotel, now a regular pub.
Some have requested a repeat of narrated walks with the commentary removed. Here is the walk with commentary. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CDfDO3QzeJI.html
@@stephengraham5099 I am sorry l wish you would do some homework. Port Sunlight is not unique. Just a few miles away is another Arts and Crafts model village built by Lever- Thornton Hough. It’s smaller but nicer.
@@jontalbot1 I have no need to do homework. All I did was post a link to the video with commentary. I was trying to help. You said, 'This would be greatly improved by some information'. I sent a link with information. I didn't say anything about Port Sunlight.
@@stephengraham5099 I don’t mean to be provocative but “I don’t need to do homework” is not a good statement for someone producing content. PS is an outstanding example of a community created by an industrialist but far from unique. And Lever was not as benign as you portray him. His house was in the middle to keep an eye on things and there were lots of rules, even governing things like the hanging out of washing. He believed in the perfectability of people (according what he thought was right) so that the art gallery for example, was meant to ‘improve’ his workers. Interestingly the art gallery is a sort of neo classical affair ( ie improving) while the cottages are neo vernacular. If you want to do another one like this New Earswick built by the Rowntrees is a better example. It is not as architectural as it was designed to be self financing and therefore reproducible. It’s a vision of what council housing could have been with more care, not just a rich man’s indulgence
