That’s one dangerous area, but I must say as someone who has walked those streets you’ll be fine!! So much history, grit and hard working people who love their city!!
Baltimore's population rose each decade from the 1750s until 1950, peaking at 950,000. It has dropped each decade since then, down to 585K in the last census.
Adam would make a GREAT reporter in the old tradition. He shows you so much thought-provoking stuff, yet never (or almost never) does he offer his own opinions - especially political opinions - as to what could be or should be done on any given issue. I think this is in large part why his channel is so popular. He shows it to you. YOU do the thinking.
Why? To me this is an advertisement for why these decaying cities need to get rid of urban blight and bring in investors. Keep as many of the old once-beautiful buildings and bring in new businesses. I am all for “gentrification” and repurposing historical buildings into thriving areas. That also brings in much needed tax money.
I have never been so anxious watching a vlog 😳. I’d also like to point out to anyone that hasn’t been to Baltimore that if you go outside the city its actually really nice
I love Dan bells dirty rooms with Rick an some of the other people he filmed with .I won't stay in a motel or hotel .knowing what can be under or in the room .😂But Dan can make anything fun
JH Von Der Horst owned the Eagle Brewery in Baltimore. His son, who became a partner in the brewery, also owned the first iteration of the Baltimore Orioles…and sold beer at the stadium (something new at the time of the leagues formation)
My dad grew up in Highlandtown, went to Patterson high, and we return back to Baltimore almost yearly. I love this city. It has its grit and issues, but it's a wonderful city with even more wonderful people. Thank you for showing the real Baltimore, its history and legacy, not just the good sides.
I was right at that pier when the the Dutch Frigate M.S.Tromp was there. Got to meet her Captain. Quite an honor that day! I know North Avenue quite well. Have a very sweet family member there! Seriously, need a ferry system there immediately, if not sooner!
@@cag19549thing is, almost everywhere in Baltimore looks like this! Sure there are good and bad parts or almost every city but with this one, Baltimore is THE bad part of the city!
GREEN FISH BOTTLE--Originally contained white wine from Italy, intended for consuming with fish. Great marketing tool by winery (Antinori). Wine was pretty good too.
Great video thanks bringing back memories of home town played a lot of band gigs bitter sweet times there growing up rememberingthe riots in 68 could see the smoke from the building on fire from where we lived in Catonsville Md dont miss the snow now my wife and I live here in good sunny florida left Maryland 2012 have desire to move there now miss my fam and friends the most be safe Adam love the vids
Having Dan as your guide to the hood, is a good thing. Wow it looks every bit as war torn as many neighborhoods in Detroit. What a shame. Great video Adam
Exactly...looks alot like Detroit I can say that because I born in Detroit and still live within 30 minutes of the city ..sad what has happened every single year They use the $$$ for big stuff and forget the inner city needs to be cleaned up.. pretty sure the new (Detroit sign that wasn't worth it) for the Draft , but that $$ could have been used in those abandoned houses that hurt the neighborhoods ...!!! So tired of the trash being left behind and the big $$$ is abused ..pretty sure there are plenty of folks could have used it to feed their families instead. We have it all wrong right now. Why are abandoned buildings allowed to stand next to someone's own house thar takes care of them yards.. so sad
I call it Detroit on the Chesapeake. If it wasn't for Washington DC propping up the area, Baltimore and Maryland as a whole would make Detroit look like paradise.
Such an interesting video. Thanks for filming. I think the sign in the alley says, "Be careful how you treat others. You might be entertaining angels."
Sad and depressing seeing a glimpse of where things are heading. Kudos Adam for having the courage to even think about going to some of those locations.
I was fortunate to visit the Inner Harbor in its glory days a few times. The aquarium packed, the shops and restaurants all very busy. Throngs walking around, exploring the history and people watching. That was back in the late 80s to mid-90s. Now its a pretty high crime area and hotel guests nearby get mugged.
@@mgratkhaven’t been to Baltimore since 2012, a friend of mine became a police officer there around 2014/2015 around when they had a few riots and arson going on, it’s so sad to here how bad it’s gotten. The Inner Harbor and Camden Yards area were very nice at the time
The first time I went to Baltimore as an adult I walked into a convenience store that was entirely encased in bulletproof glass. Everything was behind the glass; the drink coolers, the bags of chips, the candy bars, everything. I went up to the register, told the guy what I wanted then he went and retrieved it. I put my money in like a drive through bank teller tray and he exchanged it for my stuff. I’ve always wanted to go back and explore some family history stuff. My great greats owned a store/bar/restaurant kind of a thing in Baltimore during the late 1800s and early 1900s, but I’m literally to afraid to attempt it. Some of them are buried in Druid Hill Cemetery.
Loved this video Adam, and Dan too. Grandmother was born in Baltimore and she would always take me around the city to were she would go as a child. It was so much different then compared to when she was young, and much different today then back then when she would show me. Such a fascinating place good and bad.
Adam, really enjoyed your video! Love city's that have old buildings! Thank you for taking me along with you and Dan! Looking forward to your next vlog.
I went to Baltimore last year on a small vacation... just 3 days. It was run down but I went during October and they have some AMAZING haunt attractions. I never fit unsafe.
Good morning Adam, this was adventurous video today.I like how the video starts off, then it gets in to the nitty gritty. This takes you out your comfort zone of Celebration.Take care from Universal Jamie.
What a jungle! I know you appreciate celebration much more now. from the north east and I don’t miss it so dirty and old booking. I heard more sirens than birds.
Welcome to Maryland, Adam!! There are a lot of really beautiful places here. Sorry you spent so much time downtown. North Avenue is probably THE WORST area. Not a full representation of our state. There are so many other places to see and enjoy! I hope you got a chance to see some!!
I remember my grandfather worked for general electric in Baltimore for the space program, when he got layed off from Fairchild aircraft..... That place was beautiful i remember going to Johnny Unitas bowling alley... Things have changed and its mostly due to the federal government relocation program - moving people all over the state that sonewhat cared about their city, then replacing the people they moved with actually 3rd world into the city of Baltimore.. Its never going to get better in these section's... Still its only a small section of Baltimore theres alot of nice upscale and historical things to do..
I've never been to Baltimore, or even Maryland, but that bridge @14:06, I swear I've been there. Like in a dream or something. The only other thing I can think of, is there's something like that in St. Louis, where I grew up. Thanks for showing us around this area. It's grungy as all, but, very nice look into areas in America people tend to forget about.
Yep, that city definitely needs a renovation. It didn't help things when that ship crashed into the bridge. At least there's no chance for a T-Rex to escape Jurassic Park and find its way there to terrorize the city as well. 😁
