About this episode:
In this episode we explore some of our favorite riding trails in the Taylor Park area in Colorado. While we dry camp in the Taylor Park area, there is a campground available. Our rides this trip include, Lilly Pond, Texas Creek, Slaughterhouse, Tullarium, and a loop that includes Tin Cup, TinCup Pass, St. Elmo, Cumberland Pass, Pitkin and Hancock Pass. Taylor Park is a great riding area in Colorado, that has a little something for everyone! Hope you enjoy this adventure!

We stopped going to the taylor park area in 2014 their was just to much traffic on the trials. The scenery is great and the history stuff is good anyway. we been riding sxs from 2004 the old yamaha rhinos first then cam ams ever since.. Utah and Wyoming . The Paiute 900 miles of trails and Arapeen 600miles of trails in Utah. In Wyoming Albany Lodge area 500 plus miles just some places to ride if you haven't been there.. Great videos keep up the good work!!!

Hi, from New Braunfels Tx, we spend our summers at Pioneer in PA, but try to make it to Colorado atleast every couple of years. 0ur primary destination is usually the Taylor Park area, so beautiful and easier to get to now that cottonwood is paved on both sides. Thank you for a great video! We are headed to Taylor Park for a week at the end of the month. Do you happen to have an itinerary of the trails you rode each day? Or which ones you would group together? Any suuuuper technical trails you would avoid for somewhat beginners?
@momentsofadventure
@momentsofadventure Месяц назад
July is such a great time to go! We don't usually have an itinerary... just a bunch of people hanging out by the fire trying to decide where we go the next day. :) I can't think of any super technical trails for newbies in the area. I personally don't like tippy trails, and Flag Mountain has an area that feels tippy. But as long as you don't stop, I think it is OK. This is a great area for somewhat beginners. If you are staying at the trading post, one direction has Texas Creek, Lilly Pond, Tellurium, Flag Mountain and several other trails off the main road. The other direction has Slaugherhouse, and the Tincup, Hancock, Cumberland loop, along with some other trails. Be sure to use one of the downloaded maps from Onyx or one of the others. The cell service there is not great. The trading post does have wifi. My favorite areas are: Texas Creek, we always see wildlife there, it's a great place to spot a moose. Lilly Pond- has the old mines, and mining camp, and we have seen several deer at Lilly Pond. The Slaugherhouse trail/Union Park, has a little bit of everything (wide open areas, treed trails, high and low speed areas). Have a great time, and thanks for watching the video!

@@astclair11 Would like to hear more about your riding in Oklahoma! I assume your riding around the Canadian River? What are your favorites there?
@astclair11
@astclair11 Год назад
@@momentsofadventure we live in Harrah and have access to the North Canadian at the highway 62 Bridge. It's a very small area, but it's about 5 minutes from our house. During this past summer we went to Madden Crew Off Road Park on the South Canadian in Wanette, OK. They do have camp sites and I've seen toy haulers as large as yours pulling in. During the summer you can ride east, on the river as far as Lake Eufaula. I know there is a group that does this leaving from Soggy Bottom (east neighbor of Madden Crew). It's usually a 2 day ride to make it to Eufaula with overnight camping along the way. We haven't done it, but I've heard all about it. Other than that it's mostly riding the river bed, with river crossing at nearly ever river bend. The river is typically super low in the summer and crossing is not an issue. The family that runs Madden Crew does a couple big events every year with mud bogs and things like that. Have you checked out Cross Bar Ranch in Davis, OK. That's super popular too.
@momentsofadventure
@momentsofadventure Год назад
@@astclair11 This is GREAT information!!!! I didn't even thing about taking the Canadian all the way to Eufaula! We were at Eufaula a few years ago, but didn't have the SXS with us. I think we are going to have to add this to our list! We have not checked out Cross Bar Ranch in Davis either, but love the fried pies there. :) Going to add this all to my list! We are thinking of Little Sahara again so we can video it, but may extend the trip to include these as well... plus we have not made it to Disney yet, and hear that is a good place to go as well. Hi @ericafehrenbach660! We did not stay ant the campground during this trip, although we have stayed there before. We like to dry camp out in the forest. Yes, it is easy to access these trails from the campground. There is only one little section of road that you can not drive on, and there is an ATV trail next to the road that you can take. We also have a 44 ft fifth wheel as well. We have not had any issues, especially now that they have paved it. I don't think you will have issues, but there is a way around through Gunnison , if you would rather not go through cottonwood pass. Just take your time, and go slow. There are several pull overs so you can let those speedier people around you.

I have a question? Are there any clean trails or is this a mud sport? I have ocd and just want to ride well groomed trails.
@momentsofadventure
@momentsofadventure Год назад
I'm going to say, you should prepare to get dirty when you are riding trails. Its not super fun, or super safe to ride on pavement. I will say, when the weather is super dry, the trails get dusty, and that dust is just everywhere. Same on the opposite side, if it has just rained,... its muddy, and then mud gets everywhere. Less dusty trails, would be more rock climbing trails. But again, you are outside... there is dirt. Another less dirty option would be a fully enclosed Jeep. Something with doors, windows and a roof. Hope you get to get out and enjoy the views in a way that fits you!

Where would you say is the best place to live out west for the most off road trails?
@momentsofadventure
@momentsofadventure 7 месяцев назад
Great question!!! We have not explored all that the "west" has to offer! It also depends on the types of trails and scenery that you like to experience while riding. Colorado has some great trail systems. Most Colorado trails are in mountain and tree areas... great views, and wildlife around. Utah has a good variety too, I would say, mostly rock formations and dessert riding. I have not ridden in Idaho yet, but the areas I've seen look really pretty- again mountain-forest area. The areas we have ridden through Oklahoma and Kansas, are smaller areas, but fun riding. Oklahoma and Kansas would be weekend fun. There are locations in Colorado, and Utah that could fit into weekend fun locations, but there are also areas where you could stay a week or more and still have riding to do (Taylor Park, in Colorado, or Moab in Utah). Although, I understand Moab has recently shut down several hundred miles of trails. I'm not sure where the future of Moab riding stands. We do hope to do more westward riding in the future. Be sure to keep watching the channel, and be sure to let us know if there are areas we should check out!

@momentsofadventure

We usually go to Taylor Park in July. Late August should be nice temps. Probably 60s and 70s. At night when the sun goes down, the temps drop. You will for sure need a jacket, and possibly a campfire if they are allowed. Some years Colorado is very dry, and they have burn bans, with no fires allowed.
