Sandy Hook, New Jersey was once an Army base known as Fort Hancock. Today, most of the structures are sitting abandoned. In this video I explore the bunkers and other structures including the infamous "Voodoo Bunker." Enjoy!
I was all over that place inside and out back in 1976 (My boy scout troop camped a weekend there). It was so very creepy, there were tons of artifacts still in remain there. It seemingly felt as though you could feel the spirits flitting about the inside of the mazy infrastructure..thanks for posting!
I grew up spending my summer days on the hook. For some reason, the gun batteries and that whole end of the hook attracted me. I spent a great deal of time exploring it. My parents had a boat and we would anchor inside a cove (horse shoe vove I think?) and swim over to the hook. Such an historic place, NJ needs to give it some restorative attention! I am so sad to see the disrepair and damage from Sandy. The whole officers "village" and Light house was so quaint and interesting back in the mid to late 70's. And the wildlife on Sandy Hook is amazing - a great bird watcher's spot. The restaurant was fun, too. So sorry it is gone. I especially loved the outdoor showers a d the wide wide beach. Like I said, I spent many many days on Sandy Hook and loved every minute of it! Thanks for the great video!
The Abandoned Officers Houses were badly damaged by Super Storm Sandy. Sandy flooded most of the park. Some sections of the bike path were washed away. The resturant was destroyed and has since been demolished.
Ps I think that's the Verranzano Bridge you can see - and the towers from JFK Airport! The GW bridge is way to far north for you to see it from there. In between is all Brooklyn and further east is Long Island. I was always amazed at the view of NYC!
@@RayOutThere that's OK! I am pretty much well versed on that area, and it's hard to surmise just what you are seeing from the hook. Are the twin lighthouses still open in the Highlands? Great views from there!
One of the bunkers near the end was opened for our Boy Scout Troop back in the '70's If you get into the main blinkers, you can toilets and their sleeping quarters
