Join us for a little tour around Green Turtle Cay as we hunt down the best Bahamian coconut bread around.
After spending a little over a week here, we have got our wits back from the crossing and have fixed some things on the boat, so its time to get some SAILING done. So off we go from Green Turtle Cay, with our friends Dan and Kika, from Sailing Uma ( / sailinguma ) to anchor at Manjack Cay, where we find a ton of conch and dive into learning how to cook and clean them and turn them into a lovely conch ceviche.

People always seem surprised when its cold in the Bahamas in Winter! The Bahamas are NOT the Caribbean. It's much more North, where it's colder. Which can be a nice break for Bahamans compared to Caribbeans (who roast year round). Uma left you better than they found you. As we all should do to each other. Peace & respect. GhostRider out.

Brandy the wet suit looks great! Where did you get a 5 buck wet suit? You guys found my most favorite thing to do. I love being towed behind a dingy. You can find loads of things! Many man years ago when the limits were much less strict we found 50 in a day. I think your dog has got the hang of it! More under water video! You and Uma are super!

I've been binge watching the two of you this past week! I'm having fun, but I wish I were doing this too (I'm getting ready though)... Interesting is that on this vid I was thinking how I like watching the two of you like I enjoy watching UMA and then it hit me... I knew you looked familiar... Saoirse was the sailboat Dan hid their new outboard on... he gave Kika the little box (the kill switch) for Christmas! Awesome! Love your shots and great choice of music (just right... not too much and you know how to set the mood/vibe/feeling). I'm glad Oona is settling in. She seems happy :)

That bread sounds really interesting. I''m wondering if I could make a knock off Paleo version of the coconut bread... Do these ingredients seem like a similar recipe, or is that bread really different from this one?: 3 Cups Unbleached, All Purpose Flour (I'd try substituting a blend if cassava and arrowroot, and a touch of xanthan gum to make it grain free) 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon Ground Ginger 1/2 Cup Salted Butter, softened 2/3 Cup Sugar 1 Cup Milk 2 Eggs 2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract 2 Cups Unsweetened, Shredded Coconut 1 Cup Raisins

Coconut is my favorite, I had no idea coconut bread existed so +1 to my bucket list. I love how you’ve put so much work into the boat and in preparing for leaving the marina. You are doing it. You don’t have perfect equipment (ie Wonder Woman wetsuit) and you make mistakes, but that is what is so admirable about you both. You make me feel like I could actually do this someday! Thank your for brightening my day!

Try crack conch, not as healthy but excellent, slice up, pound until like lace, dip in eggwash then flour and fry, the best

"Cay" is pronounced "key". Funny, I've spent a good deal of time in the Bahamas (I worked there) but I've never heard of coconut bread. Is it specific to Turtle Cay? Also I've also noticed that January is not the best month for weather in the Bahamas. It does tend to be cool or downright cold. Especially at night. Love your videos (I'm following Uma too...nice to see Kika and Dan in the video). For the record, the video doesn't do the water justice (you may need a filter). But for those who are viewing this comment trust me, they are right...the water is gorgeous. Anyway, keep those videos coming. the whole cay ... key... we are SO trying to get it down right. lol. I guess the bread is specific to Green Turtle, bc we have moved on further south and we haven't seen it since. :( We have started to research the filters, there were a couple of overcast days, so im sure that didn't help either. but if you come across any for the go pro, we would love to know more! thanks Jim for watching :)

Visited Green Turtle many times and always anchored up in White Sound. Even watched a space shuttle launch from the boat in White Sound. Great place to hang out and always an easy clear into the Bahamas. Great memories.

Two of my three most favorite sailing, dyi channels together in the Bahamas! What a start to the new year! Dan and Kika on Uma are fantastic and it is wonderful to see them interacting with you guys and the others sailors on YT. Have a great winter in the Bahamas and hope to see LTL catch up to you and Uma. What a show that would make.

Lol #ThingsOnlyATouristWouldDo : Stand in the street eating bread out of a brown paper bag, and tearing it with hands; pronouncing 'cay' as it is spelt instead of as 'key' is pronounced; pronouncing 'conch' as 'konk' . Lol..... You did geat removing the conch though! If you are having it for dinner raw, you might want a hot cup of tea before as it helps with digestion. Have fun guys!

If you take a really big knife and chop off the pointed end or closed end of the shell conch should come out and then you take your thumb and put it under the first or oute skin and peel, then cook. that is the way I was taught by a native BVI. : ) peace

we checked into west end. pretty easy. you can also check into green turtle. Just need your passports, vessel and dinghy registration. and then you just fill out a bunch of paperwork. :D
