Exploring the Decline: Reasons Why the NBA Has Lost Its Fun Factor 

Thank you for putting into words the reasons I quit watching regular season basketball, and am far less interested in watching the playoffs than I once was. It's hard even to get heavily invested in a team when their roster will be completely different in three years anyway. Twenty years ago, that wasn't going to happen. Yes there was some free agency movement, but it was far more common for a guy to be somewhere for most of his career (even if the team was down for a few of those years). What it really helped was developing an appreciation for guys who were quality niche or role players. There is such a thing as loyalty, and as a fan it's far easier to be loyal to a team when that team is loyal to you. Also, defensive three seconds was a bs rule implementation made specifically to open the paint for more dunks. It was the final nail in the coffin of the stereotypical big man when combined with the idea of spreading the floor. The modern game is far more like streetball than organized basketball, you were spot on about that. Flash has replaced substance in many cases, and the game has suffered for it. Don't get me started on the college game, which is kind of a joke now, like NBA light.
