I began solo trips after a bad separation..just what I needed. I was 69 when I began. Italy, two cominos..the Portuguese 350 Km and then the de Frances.850 km... took 6weeks for that one. Loved the walking and being alone or the community of walkers if I wanted. Stayed in hostels and different levels of hotels...took days off if I felt like it or to explore bigger cities.. Highly recommend going out there and jus doing it. The pandemic slowed down my walking but there are all levels out there so will continue when I can..73 now..Met lots of 80's and older.

I used to go on hiking holidays before I got married. I trekked foothills of Himalayas , hiked in Tuscany and Cyprus. Loved it all. X

I couldn't believe it when I saw the thumbnail. I thought, oh wow, Jen is in Italy? I am so proud of you for taking such a huge trip solo. I felt for you when you were going out to eat & said it's such a couple-y thing to do bc of where you're staying, but a girl has to eat. I think that would be the hardest part for me personally. But you're doing it & I'm living vicariously thru you so thank you for taking us along. btw: I've been dealing with covid for a couple months & have been out of the hospital for a month today. I had covid pneumonia & I am at home on oxygen recovering. I'm considered a long hauler & all of this has me a little down these days so this video really cheered me up. Especially the gorgeous views that you have, so thank you for that. Live life to the fullest, Jen & never stop dreaming or planning your next adventure. :)

Loved this!! My grandfather was born in the Dolomites about 100km from where you stayed. It’s been a bucket list destination for me for years. I’m excited to see your further adventures and see if you get close to our family’s home town!

I live in Ireland and work in a school and were told that the disposable masks offer better protection than the cloth ones. Regarding friendliness, I had the same impression when I visited Bibione in Northern Italy, it was full of German tourists too. I was my usual smiley self but got blank stares back, perhaps they thought I was crazy! I’m so used to people being friendly, it was a shock, but figured that’s why they say we are a friendly nation. I did love Italy and have had many extremely friendly Italians stay with me over the years as foreign students. It probably depends on the region. The scenery on your trip is amazing, so like The Sound of Music. I would be too nervous to drive there myself as we are used to the left side of the road so I congratulate you. You are so awesome and inspiring, keep up the great vlogs.

Our local health officials have told us that it’s the fit of the masks that is the most important. If you’re not wearing it properly, it doesn’t matter if it’s cloth or disposable.

@@scrapgirl82 Thanks for your response. I can’t believe that there are still people who wear them under their nose, like what’s the point at all. Mostly we are very compliant here to protect others as well as ourselves and have 90% of our adult population vaccinated so that is something. Have a nice day yourself 👍😀.

Jen, I know your feeling of growth and the big step into international travel. I know you had a fabulous time and I’m sure best of all was the feeling of self confidence and freedom from anxiety as you embraced your adventure. I’m a Canadian living in Denmark. I’ve watched you since before the children came along. You’ve always been impressive but this is your best self so far! Now for the practical stuff - the masks you are seeing are probably all ffp2 (medical) disposable masks which are considered more beneficial than cloth masks. As you probably realized they are sold everywhere. For the greetings, as a friendly Canadian, Europe’s reserved culture can be a little cold feeling. I still push the point here in Denmark and smile and say Hi to everyone - we need more visible cheerful interactions in this world. Part of the European reasoning is because there are so many people one does not want to interfere/interrupt an others experience and just let them live in their moment- it’s an interesting perspective. PEANUT BUTTER! Europe does not understand North America’s obsession with PB ! I buy mine in the American section of large super markets. Now if you mention NUTELLA they all will agree - it’s awesome! I’m sure your trip is over by the time you read this and if you read this far and ever make it to Scandinavia (in particular Denmark) I’d love to take you out for coffee. Three places you should put on your bucket list for solo hiking are: Norway! OMG! Geiranger Fjord! 2. Scotland - Quirang, Isle of Skye! 3. Cape Breton, Nova Scotia - Highlands National Park. Now go get your boots dirty! Loving this - you strong independent woman!

I personally enjoy traveling alone for shorter trips. You can do exactly what you want to do. I think it's great that you can do it, Jen. Those views were spectacular!

Do you prefer traveling alone or would you rather go with a friend if there was one available? What are the benefits of traveling alone for you? Can you do a vid on how to afford traveling a lot as a single mom? I travelled on a cruise to the Mediterranean with my hubby and son but really enjoyed taking some excursions by myself. I found people to be very kind and friendly. Have you considered any cruises? Thanks for sharing Jen! Beautiful trip!!!

Just for your information: - Germany does not border Italy!!! - And the „disposable“ masks are really FFP2 masks, which are much safer than the cotton ones and are a must in many places.

Jen, I’m very excited for you that you get to go on this trip! The scenery is stunning :) Looking forward to seeing more of your vacation. I hope you have (or by this time had) the best time and got to relax, recharge and take in all the experience! Regarding your question of the masks. Germany actually only allows surgical masks or FFP2 masks in places that require you to wear one because they are safer in terms of filtering aerosols. I imagine Italy has a similar policy. I personally only wear FFP2 masks because they offer protection for you as well, whereas surgical masks only protect others by filtering the air you breathe out.

This is such a dream! I totally give you credit for choosing the path less travelled because I would be eating my way though the cities and museums of Europe instead. This is sooo much more unique of an experience.
