Saw this in theaters in 83. I just remember it being very dark and the whole log swinging kill device. The early 80s were so much fun for schlocky horror. Every week a new one showed up at the local cinema and I saw almost all of them.

That is a heck of a cast considering they were unknowns. Someone in casting had an eye for talent.

Something about the rough-around-the-edges quality of the film stock is always charming to me. Especially in the campfire scenes - really emphasises the darkness and makes it seem all the more cosy.

One of my favorites from the 80s since I saw it on HBO back in ‘86 or so. The cast is great, the setting is perfect, the music is atmospheric, and Zorich is such a great character!

OMG! I can't believe this video slipped by me. I was involved with this movie as the original script Ronald Shusett rewrote was the winner of the Sherwood Oaks Horror Screenwriting contest. Joe Roth, who we connected to Samuel Arkoff, was a friend of the school before going to Fox, Disney, then forming Caravan Pictures. Director Andrew Davis, from my home state, directed Harrison Ford in Illinois which really f*cks with my head but I digress. Thank you guys.

The Final Terror, The Burning, and Just before Dawn were really great underrated in the woods movies that never got the acclaim through theater releases. The Final Terror had the superior Cinematography and had a great twist that I called The Grendel twist. I saw the film back in the days on HBO, and not until a year before Scream Factory's release I saw an HD copy on RU-vid that suprisingly not a VHS rip and it was pretty good. Also out of all the woods films, the cast had the more convincing costume department on what campers would wear, being it was cold. Again great video, I would love to see a review on the horror film Rituals which was simular to the Final Terror only with a mature cast.
@astroboyshiddenagend

I can't believe you mentioned Rituals 1977. Both Rituals and The Final Terror had some stunning moments both visually and story line wise. Hal Holbrook eclipsed by an abandoned dam north of Wawa -- what a setting. The tree trap scene in The Final Terror where the forest looks so ominous it could swallow you whole.

You've both brought up a great list of movies, although, I've yet to see Rituals. I first heard of it when Fangoria magazine did an extensive cover story about it. Unfortunately, I've never been able to find it for sale anywhere. I'm sure there must be a DVD available.

I first saw Rituals as a torrent ripped from VHS on the infamous Tracker 3 torrents, I had heard of it before but it as extremely hard to find. It is far superior to something like Friday the 13th, why? Well its a really great thriller and you can see where Hills Have Eyes drew inspiration from it

Saw this one a long time ago round about 1984/85 and always thought of it as being a decent little effort from the same team that made Alien. Up until now, there was only a trimmed version of this film on vhs by Thorn emi in the U.K but nice to see its final-ly available on dvd/blu-ray at last. There was a total of 5 kills in this to my knowledge aswell, if you count the couple at the start on the motorcross bike subsequently boobytrapped!

It’s a shame the cut gore scenes are (to date) lost, as apparently they put a lot of time and money to make them very realistic (like the attack of the 2 lovers and the discovery of their corpses in the shed)

Huge horror fan here and even I never knew about this movie until just recently. Recently rewatched Don't Go Into The Woods (1981) on RU-vid and Final Terror came up in my recommendations afterwards so I checked it out. Did not disappoint. A little slow but great acting and a cool spooky atmosphere. Reminded me of a mixture of Friday The 13th, Deliverance, and Fortress. Ironic on the Fortress considering Rachel Ward.

I actually tried viewing this film on Amazon, and of course despite the title and cover art they had a totally different movie uploaded. The film they had was something with nazi's and little stop motion demons... so not bad when looking for horror trash haha. When I went to review and read further about the film on Imdb and Wikipedia I was totally confused as to the list of actors and film description. Amazon Prime always does this stuff though, uploading the wrong films, the wrong subtitles, and in one case the movie was missing sound from the ending, etc etc.

My favorite example was after being inspired to see Blair Witch 2 again after this channel did a nice in depth review of it, I wandered onto prime. They of course had both Blair Witch and the sequel Book of Shadows, but if you watched either of them the film Blair Witch would play. Of course to top it off, in Book of Shadows the subtitles were for a totally different film, a documentary about Pink Floyd. How can they screw it up so bad haha.
