Found off the Duke of Gloucester Street, along the Palace Green in Colonial Williamsburg, is the home of one of the Founding Fathers of America. A place that holds much historical significance and greatly stirs the curiosity of many visitors who trek into the Colonial Capital of Virginia, set on discovering its many 18th-century wonders.
The George Wythe House is a popular stop in Colonial Williamsburg that once sheltered its distinguished owner's life and impressive resume during his many years living and working from within the old city.
This modest, symmetrical brick home was, quite often, a common style during the Colonial era... but its owner was anything but common. George Wythe's incredible life and achievements earned him a whole host of prestigious credentials during the many years he spent here at his gifted residence still found in Colonial Williamsburg.
His intellect, gentle wisdom, and devoted courage are only a few of the foundational reasons why his life continues to stand out as one of the most astounding early figures who would help shape a complete pathway to independence.
In this episode of Quest Capsule, we do a full exploration of the George Wythe House, both inside and out. One of Colonial Williamsburg's most famous residents, and with plenty of good reason. A name you will most definitely hear at some point on your visit to the country's largest outdoor living history museum.
From its home decor to the gardens.. to ghostly spirits and stories of deceit...
Here's your chance to see his home as we did.
Learn more about George Wythe himself, his house in Colonial Williamsburg, and some of the mysterious folklore that still remains here until this very day.

Great tour, when we saw the house the second story was open. George had a school room up there where he taught older boys that were interested in college. Williamsburg is a great part of America's history - very educational.

I live 28 miles from Williamsburg and have loved it since l was a child. In the early 80s l was walking past the Wythe House and someone inside was playing beautiful music on a piano.

So is he who Wytheville is named after? As always, brilliantly made. These are too good for RU-vid. They should be on a travel channel.

Actually it is named after him. There’s also a school and other places in VA that bear his name. Wythe Candy Store in Colonial Williamsburg too😎. Thank you Bob! Means a lot!

I enjoy your videos. I love Williamsburg a little too much. I pass out in certain buildings. The Kings Arms was the last. Americans know nothing of our own history. When we visited this house I had to answer all of the guides questions.

Thank you Shirley! Glad you enjoy the videos and yes, our history should be a never ending learning experience that we continue to discover and aim to understand better. Have a great Memorial Day weekend! Thank you for your comment! 🎩-Scott

Facade is not symmetrical. It was measured in detail. Facade 2nd story window on far right. Study the brickwork in comparison with other window placements, esp. window below it.

Is it true he also owned a plantation in hampton which is now nasa/langley?
@QuestCapsule
@QuestCapsule 2 года назад
Yes the plantation is called Chesterfield and he inherited after his older brother died. The property is now a part of Langley from what Ive read.

As much as I love and support CW I care not for its (and every other tourist destination) devotion to the dark and demonic world politely packaged as ghost stories. Nonetheless, another great video. Thanks
