Tucked away in a quiet area near the park's headquarters you can find the Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery, the resting place for many of the people who helped build the park into what it is today. A number of the Grand Canyon's historic pioneers are buried here.
The cemetery actually predates the National Park, with the first burial taking place there in January 1919, just weeks before the Grand Canyon would become a National Park. in all there are some 400 individual graves in the Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery, along with a mass grave for unidentified remains from one of the planes involved in the June 30, 1956 plane crash over the Grand Canyon.
In this video we explore the cemetery, look at a number of the memorials, and talk about some of the historic figures buried there.
