I also came across some Morris Dancers once, what an experience. It was when I was showing my wife round East Anglia. My mate, the same one I had gone to Wales and to Rye with, my wife and I had just come from a Medieval festival at Franlingham Castle when we stumbled into a pub in the middle of nowhere and there they were drinking a pint at the bar. When the discovered that my wife and I are German they danced for us. Being Bavarian, I am used to cultural dances but what they did with these white cloths in their hands was entirely New to me ans an absolutely wonderful experience. I agree with you, we need to save these traditions otherwise they will be gone soon. For me globalisation doesn't mean that we should get rid of All of these traditions; for me it means that a Turkish person can joint a trafitional Bavarian dancing combo and I can join the Morris dancers, even outside of the UK, if I want ro and if I can find myself a Morris combo.
The Morris dancers are all over the UK, not just in Scotland. Virtually every town and village has them. They date from Pagan times and are a celebratory 'folk' dance to usher in the better weather of Summer.
Wow, what amazing scenery @ Loch Eilein & weather was just perfect. And those beautiful horses you saw on the way. @Chris, would have liked to see you join in with the Morris dancers! Maybe next time?
Hey C2H! What a beautiful place the Cairngorms is huh? Well done for showing it's beauty so others may try it. I'm with Nanny Pat would love to see Chris joining in with the Morris dancers! .... Oooh, & swimming! Chris swims apparently (although we haven't seen any evidence of it yet)!! I'm sooooo glad you're going to do the NC500 😊 it will blow you away! The stunning beaches for a start! So far you've loved Wales & Scotland (England is too populated really) but still has some stunning coastline & history! Loved the drone shots over the lake Chris. Drive safe, stay safe & look out for each other! Can't wait for the next one. N1S x
