I don't mind how you pronounce Asperger... However, if you're interested in autistic history, I just thought I'd mention "Dear Miss Landau" (Chaplin Books, 2012). I have Asperger's syndrome, might call you later, and if either of your American interns are fans of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," they're in for a little surprise.

Freudian "infantile autoerotism" was shortened by Eugene Bleuler to "autism" the way I heard it. Though I've also heard the etymology is Greek. I think Freud's original paper would have been in German because certainly the one in which Bleuler stole credit for Freud's concept was. Freud was autistic. So is Prince Harry and was Lady Diana as well. Oh good grief no people are not born with it. Postpartum psychosis (wish for the child to become "unborn") induces autism and is also the mechanism of behavioral heritability from developmentally delayed mothers who are not even advised of their developmental incapacity to enter into marriage contracts in early adulthood. A diagnosis is the insulting stressor which prompts Munchausen sequelae by forcing attendance to the child's needs. So yup, we are proxies and should just be grateful we weren't turned into SIDS statistics. Do you sleep on your stomach? Bet that's the most common sleep position in ASD. It's a defensive posture against a menacing or scowling mother... and a way of avoiding eye contact. And also a way of asphyxiating an infant without leaving behind ocular petechiae or having to look at his face. Is what it is. Hurting us more not to grow up, so grow up.

It seems like you've come across some interesting perspectives on the origins and nature of autism. The etymology of the term "autism" is indeed debated, with some attributing it to Freud's "infantile autoerotism" and others to Greek origins. However, it's important to approach such discussions with a critical eye and consider a range of perspectives and evidence. While it's true that there may be various theories about the causes and manifestations of autism, it's essential to rely on scientifically validated research and expert opinions in the field. Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental condition with a wide range of characteristics and experiences, and attributing it solely to postpartum psychosis or other speculative causes may oversimplify the issue and disregard the lived experiences of autistic individuals. Furthermore, it's crucial to approach discussions about autism with empathy and respect for the diverse experiences and challenges faced by individuals on the autism spectrum. Using derogatory language or making unfounded assumptions about the experiences of autistic individuals can be hurtful and perpetuate harmful stereotypes. If you have further questions or would like to discuss autism from a more evidence-based perspective, I'm here to provide information and support. Let's continue the conversation with sensitivity and understanding.
