The explore
This wasn’t a very hard location to find out is the most visited and well-known locations on the island itself this is a beautiful big massive abandoned holiday park but when I visited the holiday park I noticed that some of the buildings have started to be demolished but we noticed that some of the other buildings haven’t been demolished so I lock page off we visited some of the buildings as some of the buildings have been broken into by other explorers or Vandals but some of the rooms were totally empty but you could still see the layout of the rooms itself a main bedroom and also a ensuite as well there was also another room attached to the room as well so I don’t know what that was used for From overhead view on Google Maps there was also a swimming pool in the society of the holiday park and there is also a nice looking I would signpost directing you to different areas of the holiday park and holiday resort and a very well hidden green slide at the swimming pool
history
Harcourt Sands, owned by Renowned,
Originally this was two separate Warners holiday camps - St Clare (on the right) and Puckpool
Puckpool was built first (in the 1930s) on land that was previously the estate of Puckpool House (the house still survives today). The camp was requisitioned during the war and became known as HMS
Medina. It was taken over by Warners in the late 1940s. In 1972 the camp featured in the cult movie 'That'll Be The Day' starring Ringo Starr and David Essex.
St Clare was added afterwards (late 1940s/early 1950s) and was also constructed in the former grounds of a large manor house, in this case St Clare Castle (it wasn't a real castle but a 19th century manor house with castle-type features. The house was demolished in 1960).
Warner's merged the two camps together in the 1980s and renamed the site Harcourt Sands. It was later sold to Haven then to Renowned Holidays. The camp eventually closed in 2006 and plans have been announced to clear the site and replace it with housing.
closed back in 2006 resulting in over 11 hectares of land becoming an unused eyesore with the loss of 167 jobs. In 2007 vandals targeted the abandoned buildings resulting in a massive blaze that destroyed the holiday park’s entertainment complex. The site has not been occupied since, a plan emerged to turn the site into 128 residential dwellings, alongside a tourism proposal that would comprise either a 63 bed hotel or 15 holiday units.
The recent news was that the developer had given up on that plan.

It’s stood almost untouched for 15 years and many felt it could have been re-opened at a moments notice, but now the once-loved Harcourt Sands swimming pool has been pulled to the ground as the site is redeveloped for housing.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the new owners of the former Harcourt Sands holiday park in Ryde are pushing forward with the site’s redevelopment, clearing further areas of land as well submitting a request to the Isle of Wight Council to adjust planning permission.
A planning application has been submitted by K-Haus to change the already-approved road layout within the site, as well as the re-siting of the first 14 units. The request has been made to maximise the views across the Solent with the first houses set to be built being the ones closest to the sea. Unsurprisingly, Ryde Town Council and Nettlestone & Seaview Parish Council have both objected to the application.
Much of the site has already been cleared but the
The project to build 128 homes on the land between Springvale and Appley is expected to be complete by around 2025. Mostly all the buildingd have been Demolished A spokesperson for the company recently shaft to capture on camera the ‘spotless’ condition.
