the UIU seems like a an ideal recruiting ground for the SCP and GOC, survive long enough and you've got what it takes.

I think the UIU is one of the more interesting groups in the SCP universe. Just mostly regular feds who are in way above their heads in a world where basically every other faction is larger and more powerful than them. Hopefully they, the GRU division P and the DOD PENTAGRAM get more attention soon.

UIU is like this student who always fails at every subject but tries their hardest in them nonetheless.

Basically the UIU is the little brother SCP foundation has to let in on playing cause mom said so.

I always liked the UIU. Their “incompetence” is mostly lack of resources due to those that actually know the truth of anomalies don’t trust politicians to know so little money is allocated. But the Foundation realizes the value of them in certain situations so trusts them enough to give them smaller items to keep them around. I’d suspect that the Foundation would utilize them a bit more and give a bit of funding if not the questions from politicians

The UIU. An organization while often looked down as a joke, shows great determination to keep on fulfilling their mission and has untapped potential that has yet to be achieved. “Also the X-Files them at the end! Geniusly hilarious!”

Try to think of UIU as the cop in Stranger Things. He's out of his league and can't compete with the shadowy government paramilitary organization, but he's not a fool. He was able to use what limited resources he had to uncover the conspiracy and eventually win, but will receive no credit.

I feel like the UiU would be the most 'safe' way to make a SCP TV show, it would be a generic sci-fi Mystery Cop show with occasional cool moments and minor passing references to other Groups of Interest. The best moment of the show would probably this moment in Season 3 were Generic Cop dude gets contacted by a SCP Agent over the phone who tells him how to find missing girl of the Week.

Our local Dollar General has a similar anomaly in it's parking lot. Each day, used diapers, cigarette butts, and puddles of vomit seem to mysteriously appear at irregular intervals. Spooky.

Seeing guys transferred to the UIU must be weird. There’s laughter back and forth about it and you keep in touch, watching him slowly become more reserved and stoic. You swear he’s showing symptoms of severe PTSD, but nothing he’s done could have caused it. And then, out of the blue, he’s dead, the file says shot by a methhead. The funeral is closed casket. Just like all the others.

For everyone asking "The US is one of the strongest countries in the world, why don't they have a better paranormal group?" They already do in the form of the DOD Pentagram (the DOD's anomalous weapons division), its just that the UIU is the main connection that the SCPF has to the US government concerning paranormal matters and is also the middleman in agreements between the Pentagram and the SCPF.

I've played as the UIU before in an SCP game and from the deatils it gave, it said they were a branch of the FBI or some other major organization. I've wanted to learn more about it, but never searched it up. Thanks for covering it!

The thing is, they aren't exactly a joke, and the recruiter is already evident that he's well trained and experienced in this field. (What with, dodging over 1100 rounds of a Desert Eagle and not being in a hospital by now.) It's only really because they are the bridge between the normal and supernatural, leaning more towards the normal. Given time, however, and if the SCP Foundation or any other GOI *really* needs them, like the GOC, then it can be assumed they can do relatively good work. Part of the only reason they are a joke is that they take orders from the most unassuming people. A pizza delivery guy. A bank teller. A blind guy with a seeing-eye dog. But once you see the horrors that are on the other side, then you don't care if you are a joke. You care if you will live or not.

So, basically they're the equivalent of cop in teenage fantasy novel, utterly useless?

Ahh the UIU, nice and interesting group that are unfortunately shoved into the deep end into Lovecrafts nightmares and horrors without even the proper equipment and even if that was not enough they had a competitor that is better than them at every way.

I love the UIU. They're so relatable. It's exactly what it would be like to take an average person and drop them into the anomalous world. They're doing the best they can with what they have and by God they're pound for pound the most effective organization in the SCP universe. Considering what they're given to work with, they're incredibly good at their jobs.

The Colony SCP is a really good read. Highly disturbing, but good writing.

I like the idea of SCP Foundation being an anomaly itself, or at least started as one, it's a pretty cool and little ironic twist.

The UIU is like the imperial Guard in 40k. They are just regular people dealing with shit way above their pay grade and skill, but they still do the best they can and no one can fault them for their lack of funding or training.

A "Linguistic Leyline" would be very POWERFUL for Alexandria as there are about 50 municipalities with that name. Also you left out one other problem the UIU has, the Foundation keeps poaching their best & brightest.

I like the UIU man. They're like the equiveleant of the beat town cops who constantly have to fight to keep every investigation transferred to the FBI and despite having fewer resources and less well trained members are constantly underestimated and by sheer force of determination to prove they can go toe to toe with their bigger more well equipped brother and maybe even handle it BETTER than them in our real world, only in THIS case the FEDS are the small fish and the SCP is the big brother. They're like the underdogs and it's hard not to root for them because they're so underestimated they're more relateable as people than the cold, sterile, scientific foundation. Again, it's like how we root for the small town cops because they're more relateable and in the same vein the UIU are just normal ass people and detectives in comparison to the know-it-all almost faceless SCP foundation, yeah there's personalities in the SCP foundation but they're personalities because they're wacky and fascinating like the (atleast in most later depictions) wacky Dr. Bright or the cold calculating almost representative of the SCPF philosophy of Dr. Gears, or the mystery and anomalous effects of Clef who cant have pictures taken of him. The UIU doesn't have characters like this because they're just average people in way over their heads, like the Detective from Call of Cthulu who I can't even remember the NAME of but I still root for because he's just a dude somehow managing to survive eldritch abominations and psycho cults and still through raw determination perserveres to find the truth and try to unravel the mystery behind everything. Because despite not having a source of borderline omniscient information (like the SCPF seems to have most of the time) or any sort of powers or mcguffins that give him an advantage he still charges into the dark blind hoping to turn on a light for the people who come after him. Idk man like I said it's a lot easier to root for the UIU than like the GOC with their literal armies or even the Serpent's Hand with their mysterious otherworldly powers and insight (some of which even the SCPF doesnt have) specifically BECAUSE they're considered such a big, naive joke.

It's insanely good : most universes with "shadow organisations" already rarely make them anything but with infinite ressources, knowledge, top tier scientists and all. (even with small units, if scenario needs to keep things under control) Moreover in the SCP world, where such infinite-ressource organisations do exist the same, and in numbers. And then, they go out of their way to create a realistic half-baked division of the FBI. X-Files inspired, for sure, but still : that's crazy good and anchor the world much better.

Today I wondered why so many SCPs are high school related. Then I realized that most SCP authors are probably in high school.

FBI open up. Literally.

I've always believe the Foundation has to be SCP-001. It's just the most sensible conclusion to make in that universe. But there are a lot of ways to interpret how that could be. I like the idea that the Foundation grew out of a pre-existing organization dealing with comparatively minor anomalies. Some anomalous event started to imitate the UIU, its people, and their operational procedures. In order to do that, eventually it had to start producing its own anomalies to have something to protect. It means the entire SCP universe is one gigantic feedback loop of anomalous activity. If you look at SCP articles over time, the degree to which they pose a threat against human existence increases almost exponentially. The feedback loop idea makes a lot of sense.

I love the UIU. They are so out of their league, but by God they're trying. They just lack the resources or experience that the Foundation, GOC, or MC&D have. I could definitely see an SCP show with a UIU agent as the POV character in understanding the world of anomalies. Or a TTRPG a la Call of Cthulhu where you can play as a UIU agent. I just really love the UIU, man.

I really like the UIU, honestly. They do their jobs to an adequate standard without the support of: their country, their government, or even their peers in the FBI. They are almost completely alone in their fight, if it weren't for their unofficial alliance with the Foundation. They're just regular, old-school lawmen in an indescribably and impossibly big world. Despite all the ridicule, each of them knows the scale of the frontline they stand on, and probably take pride knowing they are privy to an entirely different world than all the chumps working small-time mundane cases involving serial killers and drug dealers. "Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity" all things the FBI should stand for in our own universe.

i have dyslexia and find it very hard to read the SCP pages myself. your series has helped me understand them better and be able to still join in on the SCP horror fun! thank you.

The UIU also would work well as a contingency plan for the us government in that case that the foundation goes rogue. As for now it's underfunded but it just has to function as a skeleton on which the us can build any time when it is required.

There's gotta be an alternate universe out there where Mulder and Skully run the UIU.

I always enjoy underdog stories. This is definitely one of them. I would even buy them some pizza if they where real.

It would be interesting to have a game where you start as a proud new recruit still believing they is doing their country proud. They are oblivious and still underestimating the paranormal, until during a routine mission, exposes you to a serious threat. You first hand experience the severity and magnitude of the anomolous world and the other more secretive powers that dwarf your own. Being exposed to it the UIU sends you to more dangerous missions with the SCP Foundation always being involved.
