11:18 The GOC's stated end goal is pretty much the same as the Foundation's: To keep the World and the Civilians in it safe and unaware. Their Methods however are quite different. While the GOC is much more willing to destroy Anomalies, they are also much morewilling to use them, especially Paratech - the melding of Anomaly and cutting edge technology. Thus they are absolutely willing to keep the Paratech Companies running, as long as they get the final say of what they do.

My favourite case was SCP 2480. The SCP foundation laughed at GOC blunder only to failed even harder. Looks like the foundation have the habit of letting containment sites went unsupervised and going rouge

The GOC is much more nuanced than it's sometimes portrayed as, the chair incident isn't really a good representation of them, or more pointedly it's a good representation of what the SCP Foundation wants you to think about them. It's entirely possible, even plausible that the SCP foundation prompted the GOC to do what it did either to produce the event for propaganda, or just to see what would happen. While the two organizations have clear philosophical conflicts, it's telling that they're more or less neutral to eachother as a baseline stance and are more likely to cooperate with eachother than engage in direct conflict. The primary difference between the two is that the Foundation seeks contain any and all SCPs regardless of their threat, whereas the GOC seeks to destroy anomolies which are POTENTIAL threats as well as hide anomolies that could cause public disruption. They'll happily ignore anomolous people and objects that aren't dangerous or noticable.

Don't forget the GOC is a coalition of 108 occult groups, which include ICSUT (The International Center for the Study of Unified Thaumatology) the largest magic college in the world with campuses/branches around the world. And the Servants of the Silicon Nornir which is a trans-human religion that seek to crate a divine AI call "The True Silicon Goddess" and who also worship a group of anomalous super computers. And the GOC even have their own anomalous city call Eurotech.

Yeah its what many people miss. Their prety much built from paranormal roots. 108 seacret societies/cults and GoC as a enforcers of them and UN that guard humanity.

Depending on the story the GOC can be extremely stupid or evil to exceedingly reasonable. This is also the case for all of the more neutral organizations; the Foundation, CotB, AWCY, Chaos Insurgency, etc.

There’s also drift in the concept of these orgs over time: The GOC as initially conceived might nuke Three Portlands, but not the more restrained version that has developed over the years. Alternatively you could chalk it up to Three Portland’s assistance to the proto-GOC during the 7th Occult War: nothing brings paranatural groups together like killing Nazi occultists.

I couldn't make it for your birthday stream, so I just wanna say happy birthday! Also, if you're curious, the GOC utilizes para-tech quite often and is occasionally willing to bargain with sentient and non-aggressive anomalous groups/individuals, hence why Three Portlands was left alone in exchange for the GOC establishing a para-tech company there.
@ShinigamiSamaH

This is why I said many time not to just pigeonhole the GOC into the "Hur Hur, we use extreme violence now!" stereotype. SCP files are written from the Foundation perspective, and they are heavily biased (for obvious reasons.) This in turn make some SCP writers to also be biased when they write GOC. Tales on the other hand allow for more fair depiction of the organizations. Sure, many stories will continue to depict the GOC as either incompetent or cruel, most likely because a story need an antagonist (that isn't just the SCP), but that doesn't mean there aren't stories where the GOC are the protagonist or be in the right. Ultimately, that all depend on the writer if they want to write a punching bag or a nuanced character.

Yeah I really like Three Portlands. Don't get me wrong, I love the dark shit in the scp universe, but I like the lighthearted stuff too. The idea of a place you could actually live out your life as an anomalous human without getting contained by the foundation is really comforting.

Ever seen the old Corridor Digital short "Mexican Standoff?" Basically a Three Portlands thing. The GOC is less 'all anomalies must be destroyed' and more 'we will absolutely destroy the anomaly if it's a big problem, otherwise it's the Foundation's problem.' I totally agree that a game set in 3Ports would be a great thing. It would probably be something like a more fantastical Disco Elysium; a relatively traditional crime story but with way more overt supernatural elements. If you like this sort of thing, try to also look up Wilson's Wildlife Solutions and the Manna Charitable Foundation. They're also basically anomalous organizations dedicated to dealing with non-hostile SCPs.

About the GOC, maybe it's the: "you gotta get your weapon from somewhere" thing
@minhducnguyen9276
@minhducnguyen9276 2 года назад
They don't use anomalous weapons as the last resort, they actually use them extensively, more than the foundation. Many of their agents even have anomalous power. The GoC are even more knowledgeable of anomalous objects than the foundation because their precursor organisation is actually older. Their policy towards SPCs basically is "If you are not with us you are against us". The existence of the GoC makes me surprised that SCPs like 953 could survive that long being a danger to the public and easy to kill.
@kannonball5789
@kannonball5789 Год назад
@@minhducnguyen9276 953 is by no means easy to kill. She gets around relative lack of durability with her illusory and mind-altering/mind-controling abilities.
@minhducnguyen9276
@minhducnguyen9276 Год назад
@@kannonball5789 But GOC also use anomalous agents extensively. Dr clef for example was agent ukulele when he worked in the GOC. Guys like him are immune to mind control and when that happens all they need is a pistol to dispatch 953.

The Chicago Spirit, as mentioned here in Three Portlands, was not Al Capone but an Anomalous group of rum smugglers operating in Chicago that are linked to several anomolous deaths involving alcohol made using anomalies and were rivals to Al Capone that remained active thanks to protection using other small anomalies. The Exploring Series looks in depth into this group and some associated SCPs in another video. As for "WHY?!" in regards to J. Edgar Hoover declared war on Three Portlands, Hoover is well documented as a rather narrow minded, ruthless individual who would not have taken kindly to a whole town of "freaks" being linked with US territory and be seen as "sheltering" criminals, hence his initial reaction. Two months is a merciful short time for the siege to have continued for.

Thaumatology is basically the study of the Occult or Magic.
@creativeevil1369
@creativeevil1369 2 года назад
Hi Yeah, Three Portlands is very a cool thing. Things for clarification Thaumaturgy means magic or wonderworking in English. People who have thaumaturgy abilities can perform and/or work with magic. The Seventh Occult War was a war that coincided with the Second World War. The word 'occult' means in the broadest sense, a category of esoteric supernatural beliefs and practices which generally fall outside the scope of religion and science, encompassing phenomena involving otherworldly agency, such as magic, sorcery, and mysticism and their varied spells. The Occult Wars generally refer to periods in human history where anomalies were utilized or even led in combat. The Seventh Occult War occurred during the Second World War where the Allied Occult Initiative (the predecessor of the GOC) fought against Nazi Occult Groups and, presumably, the IJAMEA/ The Imperial Japanese Anomalous Matters Examination Agency or IJAMEA, Japan's official and primary anomaly agency in the period from the Meiji Restoration in 1868 until the end of World War II in 1945.. So, basically a massive-large-conflict involving multiple anomalous artifacts, people and deities. And we had 7 of these occult wars. Yeah, Apparently, the GOC has sorta a "oka-y" with this. I think they it's more or less of the GOC interested to USE magic and stuff for their own advantage. Their also has several seminars for this kind of stuff. Funfact: Three Portlands is a nexus, a term you would be hearing in probably future videos To quote from the Nexus Hub itself, it says: "A Nexus (plural: Nexuses1) is an area/zone that is actively anomalous, and supports a permanent community. Imagine a city like New York, except that perhaps the city never sees the Sun, or people sometimes turn into animals, and that's perfectly normal for them. Normally, the Foundation/GoI would classify these places as SCPs and try to get everyone out and lock the place down. Unfortunately, sometimes that isn't always possible or feasible. Hence, they designate those places as a Nexus. This means that these areas are recognised as places of anomalous activity and left be, albeit under supervision from a GoI or government. They are also hidden from the public, and all evidence of its existence hidden. There are also larger versions of Nexuses, known as Free Ports. These area are inherently anomalous, often being disconnected from the main world. They act as safe zones where the Veil is not required, as everyone who enters a Free Port, knows about the anomalous. Free Ports are usually recognised as sovereign states and are self-managed, albeit with some intervention from federal or international agencies. Free Port Anomalous hubs of commerce and living. These communities are openly aware of the anomalous and actively practice it. These hubs are protected by national/international law, and forbid Foundation intervention. Policing of the Nexus is done though its own agencies. These Nexuses can only be accessed through anomalous means." Bye.

Now I’m tempted to create an OC that’s from Three Portlands that works as a GOC agent Anyways, could you imagine how insane a parkour enthusiast and freerunner from this city would be in any given space-warping situation? The fact that you can see anywhere in the city from anywhere else implies a inside-of-sphere shape to the pocket dimension, and getting gloss enough to the center by running up the skyscrapers…yeah I should write this character, we don’t have enough games GOC operatives, and we especially don’t have any examples within their own ranks of the GOC’s “let them do what they want if it’s useful to us” policy that’s so core to their existence and outclassing the U.I.U., despite it never showing up for some readers
