Exploring The Stunning Beauty Of Derwentwater To Support Myeloma UK

Walking around Derwentwater on a perfect summers day is always one of Mrs Metalman's favourite walks but this was made even better by being in the company of her brother and sister in law. In 2022, her brother Doug was diagnosed with the incurable but treatable Multiple Myeloma (blood cancer). It is the first anniversary of Doug's stem cell transplant and he is trying to raise some funds for the charity Myeloma UK. It is the only organisation in the UK dealing exclusively with myeloma so Doug has been doing a series of walks with family and friends, raising awareness of this awful disease, as well as raising money for research into new treatments and helping people to live a longer and happier life. He intended to raise £1K but so far has raised over £2.3K with the intention of raising more, with every penny going to Myeloma UK . Hi Alan, What a beautiful walk for a fantastic cause. Doug is an inspiration, facing his battle with positivity and strength, and raising money for Myeloma uk. We have of course made a donation. Doug is so inspirational & I have to add Alan your videos always put a smile on my face haha 😊 That's a lovely walk you chose. A great start at The Chalet at Portinscale ... often visited by myself as never disappointed with the food or service. I've yet to sample The Ladore ... must do that sometime. I can almost guarantee that if Doug ventures across here again, he'll be able to do Walla Crag as hot sunny days like you got are rather rare. I was a bit worried about those alpacas ... never seen them flat out like that before ... Perhaps they were making the most of the warm day. A great walk for a very worthy cause.love the walk around Derwentwater, well done Doug on raising awareness. Just finished a hike on a stretch that there was a charity run going on for Altzheimers, it’s a video full of blue TShirts! Look forward to the Premiere Inn review. Great info about the jetties. Definitely got the weather with you today. I don’t think you have to do much road walking from Lodore Falls to Keswick. Did it last year, lots of new pathways and walkways all the way back to Keswick Theatre.

To be honest we have not done the full 10 mile circuit for about 7 years now but I did not like crossing the road on different stretches then. To be honest, a pint at Lodore Falls and then an open top bus ride back into Keswick is so much more fun. I was talking to a couple of the race supervisors and some of those runners were doing 30 miles and the first one went passed in 5 hours - up and down the Fells and it got up to 25C as well, don't know how they do it. Doug is a real inspiration so really pleased he wanted to join us on one of Mrs Metalman's favourite walks and we hit the weather just right as well. Beautiful film Alan and I did this walk two weeks ago but caught the boat from Keswick to Lodore and walked to Hawes End catching boat back into Keswick. Those flowers by the cottage are truly spectacular. Well done to you all, massive thumbs up👍

Agree with you 100%, good health is a blessing and one I give thanks for every day but you never know what is around the corner, so I always try and make my days as good as possible. Good way to get the word out about rare conditions. Our youngest daughter has Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM). There used be no way to treat it also. Donations for research for these things help so much. I love that you got it the lake how was the water? It was cold for me at Three Shires Head. Juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM)

Nice vlog alan good to see yous all out enjoying life in the sun and needed shade big YESSS to doug awful thing is the C word I lost my son at the age of 5years to this damm thing it's hard to put up with so massive respect for dougs outlook on it all and keeping himself busy and getting outdoors and great fundraising for the treatments side of thing loving the open top bus I shall have to try this one hahaha as always enjoy ya pint buddy with miss metal man and the guys 👍
