Gotta be somewhere in the northeast. Looks so much like my upstate NY woodsman we have those sinkholes and lots of caves in the shawgunk and Catskill mountains ⛰️
What I think you have found here is not a cave or a mine but just a sinkhole they don't really go anywhere they just washed the soil away from around the rocks and who knows where the water goes

if you find a cave on the mountain and it doesn't have a gate or a sign in place then you can go in without a permit! we don't live around there but we don't mind driving a few hours to get there each time we visit!
