This is almost the full cave exploration of screech owl cave on pigeon mountain, in north Georgia. This cave is linked to petty johns by the stream that runs through it.

Every time I see a cave entrance like this one the more I am convinced that every person ever that went missing in the woods never to be found again were never found because they accidentally fell down some random hole.

I've never found out if it's true or not, but there's this map that shows the frequency of missing persons in the continental US alongside the frequency of caves, and they look nearly identical.

This really brought me back in time. Just charging ahead recklessly with my friends no talking just the sound of our breathing and an occasional "watch out here" 😆 it looks crazy to me though cause of how tight this shit is.

You guys certainly live awesome lives! Adventures that laymen (such as me) can only dream about! Have you ever had situations where you began to think that you may have pushed the limits just a bit too far by squeezing into a passage that you may not be able to back out of if it becomes too narrow or tight? I can't even begin to imagine that kind of fear; being 'entombed' down there in the darkness... jammed into one of those tight crawlspaces or winding labyrinths, never to see the sun again!

yeah it literally just happened in a cave we will be posting the video hopefully soon. come to think of it, it's been happening quite a bit here recently! we definitely need to be careful in the tight passages..

Ah Screech Owl.... Forgotten that one. We used to take people to Pettijohns to see if people would enjoy caving (several decades ago). If they were grinning after the Worm Tube, you could tell they were hooked ... It does get really really tight in Screech Owl.... Thanks for the memories (Says the ancient decrepit armchair caver) ((waves cane and yells "Get off my lawn!"))

I went here with a few friends and I was the last one to exit, just seconds after I climbed out a boulder had shift at the entrance and we all turned our heads at the same time...everyone bug eyed 😳

Seeing some of the little holes in the ground that leads to huge caves, makes me wonder how many undiscovered cave systems there are. I'm to claustrophobic to ever do this, plus I'm to big to squeeze thru the stuff you guys do.

That is a cool cave! I wanted to see that area you climbed up on that fin looking rock but climbed down. Too bad there isn’t a short rope there. Do you think you will find a connection to PettyJohns one day?

we do think we will find another entrance into pettyjohn's cave eventually but it most likely wont be from screech owl cave and will probably be from northbend sink or the area of patrick cave. we found a hole in northbend sink cave that sucks all the air into it and it seems nobody has crawled into it because it was filled with spiders and on the pettyjohns map it's directly in line with tobacco road. www.hucosystems.com/articles/Mile%208.htm

just doing online research so far. most caves we don't have maps for but this one has a map attached to the pettyjohns map we found. this one connects into pettyjohns at least the stream in it does. if you are small enough you might be able to make a through trip

we still aren't sure. all the air seems to be going to a central point in the cave. hopefully we can discover where it goes someday!

Hey guys, North GA native here - is there a connection between Screech Owl and Petty Johns that you can traverse between? I know that the streams are linked, but can you actually move from one cave to the other inside? Also - I've heard there's a second entrance to Petty John's - can anyone confirm?

We have been to the other side of the connection it is in the labyrinth of pettyjohs cave and it looks very tight. Probably too tight to fit through you can see the water dripping down from screech owl cave. We have been in screech owl so far we felt like pettyjohns cave was right around the corner but also almost got stuck in there. It becomes a super narrow Crack and it looks very hard to make wider since the walls are made of stone. There is a slight chance you could send some up leads and get around it but most likely the connection is just too small to allow anyone through unless they were super tiny or the passage gets widened

There is no second entrance to pettyjohns yet. We do know some likely spots to go check for another entrance but it will take some sketchy crawling under loose rock to try and get in there and it might not even lead in.
