Holy cow! That was quite the adventure! I really enjoyed the exploration and the point of view from where the camera was mounted. Very entertaining post. Thanks!

Drinking water out of the is safe; 20/20 rule: 20' from shore & 20' deep water, (no moving water) will keep you from the bugs in the water. Great video on how to bush whack, did that into Charm lake west on Gebeonequet lake, another PMA spot.

I never trusted drinking straight lake water until 2 years ago. I now will grab some on a long traveling day as i don't want to take time to filter. 😀 Thank you.

I like how you take time to enjoy and explore nature, experience the amazing fishing. You r focused on the nature experience rather than the distance travelled. It makes me want to go back after having a pretty highly intense trip when I was 14.

Thank you. It is about trying to experience it all for me and hopefully future trips. Then, memories for when I can not. I hope to be able to go much deeper into these trips and videos soon.

My best friend (yr old) draws me those maps every year and he just told me to watch out for the bad people. He could been referring to pirates, ninjas, etc. Haha

I took care of a lodge over the winter off moose lake one winter about 14-15 years ago.the snow on the roads was so high you couldn't drive off the road it was 10 ft high. I did a lot of ice fishing trout and perch. I wonder how many people throw their backs out during portage 😂. More than who pull ice shanties I'm sure!!

I imagine their are a lot of slipped disc's on these trips next to bad falls. I plan on living up there soon for a few years and am excited about the snow. I'm sure my perspective will change once I'm buried in it. Haha

@@MichealGrabosch I have been looking at a few other options for a trip up there this year. Looks like that museum lake is pretty un-visited as well. I sure would like trying to get back there. Maybe get an idea what a trip to starlight might look like. I wonder, would snowshoes help in the grass lands? Just a thought

I highly recommend trying out some beginner p.m.a routes before unexplored areas. I began with beartrap. That one is super fun going into crooked lake! Or raven lake. Pitfall p.m.a area is great too! The small number of people that do what I do hate that I post my videos as it may cause people not ready for it add to the rescue missions they already have every yr or worse. There is soooo much shit that sucks I don't show just to make the video short. I've been completely lost many of my first trips as well twisted an ankle having to use 4 days to recover to hike out, sick a few times, capsized, had a few moose almost run me over while making a port in primitive area. They scare the shit out of you when one jumps from a bed near you!. Make sure you are over prepared! My med bag has over $400 for these trips. If a person doesn't know how to stitch themselves up, this trip is not for them. If you do, just make sure to have a primitive permit from the rangers. Otherwise, the fine is pretty crazy if caught by a float plane or ranger. Make sure you know how to navigate by topography on a map too. The GPS won't be accurate out there and will get you lost. It'll show you on one side of the lake when you're at another. And that sucks. Lol

@escapewithjay also suggests renting a kevlar canoe as I see you are a kayaker. I took a Kayak my 1st 3 times in pma. Regret every minute of hauling it through bush. Haha. I got a hole in it while out. Patching a Kayak is so much harder than a canoe! Canoe is just simple duct tape and good to go

@@MichealGrabosch I had 2 canoes and sold them to buy the kayaks to paddle the mississippi. I dont regret selling them as it was an amazing trip but canoes have become so expensive now... I rented one from Kawishiwi outfitters last summer, they are great boats I just worry about them pointy rocks!

Thank you so much! These trips are a huge part of my life, and God willing, I plan on doing it a lot more in the future. My next trip is in 2 weeks for a whole month. I've been working out all yr long for this trip. I push each trip more than the last. This will far exceed any yet.

@@MichealGrabosch that’s awesome! Can’t wait to see it. I did my first BWCA trip (and solo) back in early to mid June last year. It was an experience for sure. I’d sure like to get back there again but it’s quite the haul and time commitment from where I am in Texas. My goal ne time is to explore some of the PWA’s for sure. And more time on walleye water.
@MichealGrabosch
@MichealGrabosch Год назад
@RandallW20 that is quite the long haul. I'm fortunate with a 9 hr drive after Friday working Thurs night shift. Lucky to have a wife which allows me to be gone that long;)
@RandallW20
@RandallW20 Год назад
@@MichealGrabosch yep, mine allows me to go on the trips too (gets jealous even, lol). And often times she gets to go with me on some. But that one I did last year in the BWCA was a doozy for both of us as there’s no quick way to get back home if there’s an emergency. Where I put in and paddled to, it was a good minimum hard paddle for two days out, if not three. And then the drive home on top of that. Thus most of my trips are in NM and CO camping and fishing in the mountains. Those leave me within 14hrs of a drive home should I need too. But I’m hoping to do the BWCA again before too long. Until then I’ll live vicariously through videos like yours.

Your canoe seemed perfect for your adventure. Great in the narrow creak areas and good in the wind. What brand/model did you have?
@MichealGrabosch
@MichealGrabosch Год назад
It is an Aurora, Wenonah. Kind of rare as I have never seen another in bwca. I also convert it for my solo trips from a tandem. I have other videos of it as a tandem. But for a long solo. It's the best, I feel super comfortable in it.

Thank you for sharing your video and your advice regarding what to look out for when selecting a campsite. A drone would be helpful for scouting out a pathway?
@MichealGrabosch
@MichealGrabosch 10 месяцев назад
Would be absolutely! But if caught in BWCA with a drone by a ranger, the fine is $5000 or 6 months in jail.

Wilderness systems origin recreation/touring kayak paddle on amazon. It was a bit expensive, but I learned fast over trips that good gear is worth it when going so far out solo.
