Lord Admiral Spire they seek knowledge and understanding, it’s their most basic component of the faction. They all have human ambition and drive, and a constant drive to learn and understand it all. They send fleets of ships into the unknown for knowledge, in fact your position of power is based on what you know, the quest for knowledge is what every Techpriest strives for. This knowledge has made them a force to be reckoned, and without them humanity itself will fail.
@Lord Admiral Spire there have been many people throughout history who searched desperately for the key to eternal life, or other forms of transcendence, think Ponce de Leon and the fountain of youth, so in that respect, they are still somewhat human/relatable, in addition to their faith/piety and endless quest for knowledge.
@Lord Admiral Spire As an engineering student, I can relate to the Mechanicus immensely. Knowing that there is a huge amount of knowledge out there, and wanting to fully grasp more than you can. Striving to live up to the deeds of the great scientists and engineers that came before you. Not knowing how everything works, but needing it to make other things work. And most importantly, praying to your code to appease it, so that it is not angry at you and compiles without any errors.

The thing is, I can actually get behind this. What's the first thing, People do if something isn't working? Turn it off, wait a few Seconds, turn it on again and hope it works. Or consult the Manual and do everything exactly like it says in the Book and hope it solves your problem. Now transfer that to a Community of People, who forgot how a Hydroponics Bay or Oxygen-Generator works but have to repair it or built a new one. They recite every Step in the Manual and hope, it works; until a few hundred Years later, no one refers to the Manual as such but instead call it a holy Text how to appease the Machine Spirit of the Hydroponics Bay. Or how to appease the Spirit of the Computer, that monitors Security Cameras - press the divine Button, recite the holy Prayers to the Machine God and press the Button again. I can totally see it happen, that Humans would one day whorship Machines because they forgot, they are just Machines.
@@manticore6963 problem is that the machine spirit and omnissiah are definitely real and observable, what they actually are however is up for debate, even the omnissiah which is popularly theorized to be the dragon of mars, but it might not be.

As far as I know, Gods and supernatural Beings in the 40k Universe are created by People believing in them instead of being real from the beginning (except the C'tan) - basically, the Omnissiah, Machine Spirits and such are real, because the Mechanicum started believing strong enough in them; maybe even due to the Void Dragon giving them some Base to believe in it and the Powers of the Warp doing the rest. (Edit: assuming, that the Void Dragon Theory turns out to be true) Allegedly Nurgle himself awakened due to the suffering of the Black Plague during the Middle Ages on Terra (even though he existed in an unconscious Form before that) and a powerfull Demon was created due to the first Human Murder - so it's not unlikely that Human belief is extremely potent and a single Planets Popuation might be enough to create Machine Spirits and such.
The current mechanicus would scoff at the thought of the broken god however since they know the omnisiah to be the god emperor. If anything they would see the chuch as an offshoot of the Dark Mechnicum

Two corrections. The STCs currently in the possession of the Mechanicus aren't "print outs", they are holographic blueprints. Titans are *not* STC, the Mechanicus knows how to build them without blueprints. They reason they don't just flood battlefields with them is that Titans are walking temples to the machine god

Makes me think the Emperer simply repaired it like an actual engineer and this part of the tale was turned into divine power rather than simply tech knowledge (he's the Tony Stark-esque genius behind the Space Marines), or he did fix it in a single touch, but a Psi touch, a Psi Spell that repaired the machine sorta like the D&D Magic Spell Mending, know one on Mars knew the parapsychological resonance the Emperer drew from to cast the Psi Spell, so early Machine Priests were hugely enamoured, not knowing the Psi behind the machine's instant mending.
The Mechanicus most closely resembles a Medieval Religious Guild. Deeply and jealously guarding their secrets yet still attempting to perform their works for God and Glory.
I love that the Adeptus Mechanicus are basically one of the few people in the Imperium that can give the metal middle finger to both the ecclesiarchy and inquisition and they both can’t do anything about them, since its hard to conduct exterminatus when the only people who know how to operate weapons decided to jump ship and leave them on there own to figure it out themselves.
It reminds me of how often theocracies, corrupt dictatorships, and backwater feudal states, will put up with just about anything from the state IT department, or how much shit America lets the defense contractors and the Military Industrial Complex get away with. This being the Warhammer 40k universe, it's not surprising that there would be confusions and conflations about STCs. But there are 3 forms in which STCs exist: 1. The first is a construction template, akin to a blueprint in digital format, which also includes various details about the type of metals and power sources need to craft an item. Although rare, they are the most common and can be found on various industrial worlds, research worlds, and all forge worlds. 2. The second type is a constructor forge, akin to a building-sized 3-d printer which also houses several unique production patterns of items. These are very rare, perhaps a few dozen in the entire galaxy and kept a tight secret. These often come with a warehouse exit, where people can find exotic weapons somehow appear by miracle when danger is close by. 3. The final one is a complete STC database, along with its constructor forges and a dedicated AI to manage production and requests. Few examples remain, all of them on board a few Ark Mechanicus battleships, not only forgotten but also paranoid of being discovered, thus the AI erase the minds of those who might reveal them. Beside the human STCs, there are also Eldar, Dark Eldar and Necron models of STCs, containing caches of exotic weapons and whatnot, in the 3 forms stated above. Much like humanity, these races do not conduct research or develop new tech, but merely dig through the ruins of their ancestors for bits of knowledge or ancient weaponry. The Chaos Forges also contain such STCs, in various degrees of daemonic infestation, or even fully powered by caged Greater Daemons being drained of energy to produce new fleets and armies.
I know GW doesn't really play the long game (the endless ret-cons prove that) but wouldn't it be neat if this is how the Silent King forces the Imperium to team up with the Necrons to take on the Tyrnids? Wake up the Machine God/Void Dragon, get the Mechanicum onside and thereby force the Imperium to follow... That would get all the Imperium factions onside, plus the Necrons. The Tau could easily be persuaded (greater good blah blah) and even the Eldar and Orks could be brought along (Self preservation and "hey big ass fight this way"). Hell even Chaos might join up cause the Tyranids kinda do nasty things to them just by existing. Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall of that meeting?
They're xenos, so that alone makes them despicable in the eyes of the Tech Priests. However, even the zealots of Mars know that Necrons are without question some of the most advanced factions out there. They could never replicate that tech though because even Eldar scientists are still confused about the insanity that is Necron tech.
Actually the Mechanicus has a bit of a heresy problem with the Necrons. Some factions view them as the ideal of merging with the machine and becoming closer to the machine god.
I'm saying that because the Dude described that the Adeptus Mechanicus saw "intelligence/sentience without soul" to be the most despicable thing. It that case, it was used to describe the concept of AI. But those words can also describe the Necrons, seeing as how they are living sentient machines yet they don't have (no longer) a soul. All thanks to the Catan (correct my wording if i'm wrong), which the tech priests have a dangerous risk of end up worshipping...

Dr.feelalright kinda incorrect to think of the SCP wiki as any kind of singular entity. The author might've been a 40k fan but the concept of a machine god isn't unique to 40k and was around before 40k
One thing about the treaty between Terra and Mars. A huge part was the gift of 12 navigators to the admech, after the opening of the eye of terror which caused the origional division of humanity Mars somehow lost all of its navigators. Though the warp storms that split humanity had long since calmed mars was incapable of reuniting the forge worlds with out them
I worked in engineering and research for 11 years, and I'll admit a certain teeny sympathy with the superstitious side of the mechanicus. I long since lost count of the number of times I was faced with a downed bit of machinery I 'd gone over forwards and backwards, inside and out, that triggered a tiny irrational part of my brain to wonder: Does this thing, somehow, just not i/want/i to work for me?

I love your videos, but there are 3 mistakes here: 1. STC's: STC's are not comprehensive, but specify a single piece of technology. We know this because nearly all Imperial technology like mk4 lasguns, the Leman Russ tank, and Land Raiders are all different and all constructed from STC's. 2. Skitarii: Only some Skitarii are able to fight in diverse biomes, most (the low-level Skitarii) are little better than enhanced Guardsmen. 3. The Void Dragon has not been considered the strongest of the 4 C'tan (before the lore rework), but rather the one with the largest potential influence.
Ibram Gaunt found an STC in the first book of Ghosts on Menazoid Epsilon that would've made Men of Iron, but it was corrupted by Chaos and had to be destroyed.
