Hey, thank you for your Videos. They helped me a lot to understand docker and what is even possible with selfehosting. Started with your guide to setup jellyfin. I tried other guides but they did not work for me. Your easy to follow step by step guide helped me to understand how it works. In this Video you showed how to setup dokuwiki in a docker compose container to. Since then i use it a lot and i love it. I will try out wikidocs to.
I've always wanted to set a documentation thing up. So I can keep better track of the insanities I end up creating. Not sure which though, as I've seen a lot of solutions. I'm seeing well WikiDocs, Docsify, MkDocs, probably a lot more. Then there's readthedocs. That's the one I've seen the most, but isn't and easily setup docker container like the others. And they all look so alike too, I can't tell a difference.
Setting the looks of the different platforms aside, I think it's going to boil down to which one makes your job of documenting easiest. Some people need all the bells and whistles. Others don't. Try them out (or at least a few of them) and find what works for you. :)
Also the backup and restore process can be a deciding factor. For me not having a database and using an standard (markdown) for the files is very important.
@@AminPersia As long as your server has a good backup strategy in place, I don't see much of an issue. But it would be nice for the app to have a backup/restore functionality built into it.
While I prefer Bookstack (though I hate the rigid book / chapter corset), this looks like a nice lightweight alternative. Thanks for the great video! 😊👍
I only dabbled with Otterwiki for a week or so, a few months ago. because I thought it'd suit my needs quite well but I never really gelled with it. I guess the benefit of using wiki's that rely on markdown files is they're pretty migratable between 'solutions', you might just need to mess with the wiki indexer to make it work correctly.
Even though the focus is on documents, it would be helpful to allow uploads of other file types. Sometimes, documentation is connected to other assets. Additionally, when pasting an image, the filename is a hash. It would be great to include a timestamp in the filename.
@DBTechYT agreed. And I would not blame them for not including. But I mentioned because I'm using Obsidian for this today. And I thought it could replace it for this documentation part. But yeah, I got your point.
Nice video and interesting solution!!!. It will be nice to have the ability to export to word and import from word :). that will make my personal library migration easier!
Great video 👍 Do some or a few projects on github contain closed binary blobs, from time to time? I wonder what you think, David. Is it beneficial or meaningful to research in preparing these review videos, and telling us your audience what you found? I feel like it is a possible concern and not only for the linux kernel, from time to time. Or am I off base here? Kindest regards, neighbours and friends. P.S. Your warm and welcoming energy is nice to listen to.
I'm not a developer, so my opinion on best coding practices isn't particularly relavant, but you can take a look at the security of the containers you're interested in with several different methods. I made a video about Trivy a while back that is/was helpful in that regard: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xqrBpVgsNiI.html Thanks for watching and commenting!! Really appreciate your support!
I'm having trouble with WikiDocs, the left navigation menu is missing. This has been the same behavior on 2 different instances of WikiDocs on 2 different hosts in 2 different networks. What am I missing?
That's interesting. I'm not even sure there's a way to turn off the left navigation. By default, it will just be Page Name, Sub Title, Search, Navigation down the left side. At first it will just say "Content" and then any pages you build should show up there automatically. If this is a persistent issue, you might want to take a look at the Github repository and see if anyone else is having that issue. If not, you might open an issue to see if someone there can help you as I'm unable to reproduce the error.
@DBTechYT Thanks for the response! I think you cracked it, lools like I created everything as a sub page of Homepage So Homepage/Things Homepage/Things/Stuff and for some reason these don't appear on the nav menu :( looks like you have to remove Homepage and just type the folder name to get it to appear. Is there a way to edit this sting / slug after you've created the page? I need to delete Homepage to populate the navigation menu. Much appreciated dude you rock! I look forward to your self hosted app tutorials!! Been a lot of fun 😁
It can import but the content for the page has to be put into a file called content.md. So, you might have a folder structure like /home/docker/wikidocs/datasets/documents/cms/content.md or /home/docker/wikidocs/datasets/documents/cms/wordpress/content.md
With regards to this setup, a link is a link. There's no functionality to select from a list of existing pages within the site, so you'd need to make the links manually.
Not working for me at all (run or compose), After initial setup, This page isn’t working right now X can't currently handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500, no docker logs, anyone else?
if you are using a real stack with volumes, you can also set the /datasets/config.inc.php as a config that you can adjust to your hand . And when you are doing a cat of this file you can see that the default password is ... password ( but i cannot find in the doc)
Thank you for video, but tha app is a little outdated.... Today we need more than wiki, Notion changed industry. Now we're using Outline, but loking something with databases like Teable...
And that's fine.... for you. Not everyone has YOUR specific needs. Also, my videos aren't "here's the greatest thing in the world that you should be using immediately". They're a "here's what's out there if you want to take a look.
I deployed the stack yesterday (via portainer) using a volume (made manually in portainer) and it's worked fine, looks like that issue is resolved now.
WikiDocs looks really cool 👍 but it looks like there is small bug in the table header. In the preview while editing, the header is part of the table. But when I save the changes, the header appears above the table, making it look like it's not part of the table. 🙂 I would also appreciate it if WikiDocs supported highlighting for significant content (note, tip, important, warning, and caution) like GitHub.
What a strange thing to call a failure. It's likely because they use some sort of analytics on the site and because of GDPR. If you don't want them to *anonymously* count your visit and see which pages you're visiting (to help them improve their site and product), then they redirect you somewhere else. It's not that complicated.
@@DBTechYT of course it's simple, but I do not "[...] authorize the use of all Google Analytics profiling cookies." so they denying access to the website. And why i call it failed (I might worded it poorly, so I've updated my previous comment to be more specific) I can't even read about the project and test it, and in TDD test that cannot be executed are counted as failed. ... and yes I know RU-vid is using the same cookies...
Another great video by you!! Thank you and keep up the great work. I am going to give this a try! I have been looking for something like this and love @Zavy86 coming by and dropping a comment. That is awesome!
I was also surprised the @Zavy86 dropped a comment. Also, @AminPersia, a contributor to the project, stopped by and mentioned looking into the issues I mentioned :)
