Gary, I gotta wonder if you ever sleep. Gary, you got me on this video. Normally when I watch your youTube vids I will watch it in full screen mode on my iMac. Today while not paying attention I freaked myself out. I was watching the video and following along but at first forgot I was watching in full screen mode. Your video while full screen mode fits perfectly on my iMac screen to where it looks like my desktop is being controlled by you with your picture in picture over in the right corner. I cracked myself up trying to click on something I could not do and thought my iMac had screwed up LOL

The advanced Wifi area for me was an eye opener. I had something like 30 unused Wifi networks which I must have collected from various iOS devices over the years - some of the names in there are my own old SSID names I haven't used in years. Cleared that crud all out - now just two. My current home networks' 2.4 & 5Ghz. That's it. Shocked at how much nonsense was in there.

Great information as always. Can you do a video on fixing the issue of a MacBook with Ventura not connecting to the internet, even if the WiFi is working. My MacBook Pro is having this issue.

Ventura's System Settings provides no way to manually prioritize network choice. That automated "learning" system is fine most of the time, I'm sure, but I miss being able to simply see all my known networks in a list and reorder the list any way I like. I have three wifi networks in my home and I need to use a specific one for work while a second is for use by "the kids". My Mac loves connecting to "the kids" network because it seems to detect that it has the strongest signal or the best throughput or something. But I only want to use my "work" network and sometimes my "other" network. At the same time, I don't want to "forget" the "kids" network because every now and then I need to get on it for a quick maintenance task or other (such as remote-restarting their router) but that seems to be the only option in Ventura for preventing a connection to that network when a more-preferred network is available.

I recently retired my 11 year old Windows PC for a MacBook Pro. As an iPhone user for years there was very little learning curve since the System Settings from iOS is already so familiar.

Great video, thanks. One question though - why do Personal Hotspots show up even though the Hotspot feature on the corresponding iPhone may be switched off? Is this an Apple ID thing, i.e. the Mac knows the same Apple ID is being used on your phone so shows it even though it's not enabled on the phone? If not then it seems like poor security to be advertising a hotspot that's not enabled?

Hello Gary and thank you for the tutorial. I have an issue in my apartment. Walls are made out of concrete so although my modem is not far from my iMac my Wifi single is weak. What do you suggest besides using Ethernet cable? Thank you

Great tutorial as normal. Is there a way to block network’s from showing in the available networks list ? I know you have to click on them to engage, but some public networks that are not trusted or just don’t work, it would be nice to use stop them popping up. It’s not that crucial but annoying. Cheers

Hi Gary, thanks for the video. It was very resourceful. Did they get rid of the option for a reset Bluetooth module because it doesn’t work anymore for this macOS do you know how to do it?

If possible, please explain to utilize BOTH wifi and Ethernet connections on a Mac. Wired connection is faster but I need communication with iPhone, iPad and other peripherals in a different network segment at the same time. If I set either one on and off I need to try resetting Ip address for Ethernet side or network error occurs.

Is there any way to prevent my MBPR from automatically booting up with wifi on? I prefer to turn it on manually, only when needed.

I have an Imac and cant find any of this. I done have a "System Settings" in Apple icon on the top left.

Great informative video. You made one error. The router IP is your gateway and it's internal to you. The internet doesn't see that because it's natted just like your IP. The internet sees what your service provider uses for your internet connection.

I did wonder why I couldn't rearrange the known WiFi order as I want in Ventura, but now I know better... thanks as always-- If Apple as a Company is not directly contributing to you (Financially) it'll be a shame-- Cos your contribution to Apple user's experience is unmatched elsewhere.

On My Mac - Limit Address tracking is an available toggle even when iCloud Relay is off. Is it possible these two settings are unrelated? Also has Ventura removed the ability to randomize MAC addresses when joining Wi-Fi networds?

Hi Gary. I have a sort of related question. I have been having problems with my current VPN provider providing me less than 50/1000 of the speed I have when not connected to their vpn (both with and without dedicated IP). And I've noticed the same thing with other providers. They tend to not limit our speeds when we first start using them, but then over time, d/l speeds decrease more and more. Is it possible to create our own VPN right from our own MBPs without the need to pay someone else (and thus trust someone else)? And if so, can you teach us how? And would it be possible with and without dedicated IPs? Thanks!

I hope Apple makes a permanent low data mode option for a network instead of having to turn it on every time I connect to that certain network which is annoying to do.

On my M1 iMac, wifi drops out about once every three days, despite the fact that my phone is still connected, my Macbook is still connected, and Hulu on the TV never stops streaming. I have to turn wifi off, wait about a minute, and turn it back on again and hope it reconnects. I don't see anyone else complaining about this issue, so it's likely some weirdness between the iMac and my router, but it's genuinely frustrating to be working and suddenly no wifi. I know it's nothing to do with this video, but it reminded me of this rather annoying issue.

Hi Gary. My ipad is showing an incorrect service providers name.Where as my iPhone shows the correct one. Would you happen to know how to change it on the iPad?

I have a network drive that seems to have disappeared on Ventura. It is a MyBook Network drive I have had for years and used on Monterey without a problem. Now it doesn't even show up. Any suggestions?

Incorrect statement at 3:34 when talking about IP addresses. The router IP shown isn’t the external internet address of the router; it is the router address on the internal network

For some reason my Mac would many times join my slower 5G network rather than my main one that my iPad and phone were using. Maybe this feature of my manually changing it to the better one will eventually stop this behaviour but it’s a nuisance.

I have found a problem with ventura. Connection to open network seems doesn't work properly. I have WiFi network at work which is not WPA2 or anything protected. (Personally I don't see much benefits from protected radio path other then someone may steal somebody WiFi password. Since no password nothing to steal. All other traffic is encrypted by server-client anyway. Actual network I am talking about is well protected because access to WiFi is by splash screen or by preregistered mac-address, radius server is involved and firewall. Just there is no WPA at the AP points. In practice, nobody can connect network if not registered user or mac-address of the device.). Ventura gives me clear warning that network is "unsecured" and it not really work. Actually it goes outside, but very slowly and never finish to load web page. I end up connecting wire instead. I don't remember I had similar case before Ventura. Had no time to explore this case deeply. Just quick google the problem, nothing found yet about. Any idea?

In Sonoma, this option is no longer available. Is there a workaround for those who want to use Location Services without joining a wifi network?

The router IP address being displayed in WiFi settings is the Local address of the router itself on your home network, in a private IP range, it IS NOT your outside IP address on the internet side of the router, so at 3.43 where you say, 'this is your IP address to connect to the rest of the internet', this is plain wrong! That is the local address you would use to log in to the actual router itself through a web page, where you could then find your outward, internet, IP address in the routers own config settings.
