Explosion In China Which Could Be Seen From Space | Disasters Engineered 

The craziest thing about this gigantic explosion is that it was only 2% the force of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, and did not expose people to a gamma pulse or radioactive fallout. The most eye-opening thing about this blast is how much worse the blast over Hiroshima must have been on so many levels.

Makes me wonder how many other shipping yards are out there with mass storage of explosive and dangerous chemicals just sitting in a warehouse waiting for history to repeat itself!

I was staying at a hotel near Tianjin that night and with the second explosion I felt the hotel sway!

After the port blew up in Beirut Lebanon I started watching all these explosions that happened including the one in this video and I certainly have found one thing in common with all of the biggest explosions ever caught on camera non nuclear. and it's that almost all occurred due to the storage of ammonium nitrate

This was 0.3 kilotons; the Beirut blast was 1.5 kilotons. Fatman and Little Boy were 15-20 kilotons. Puts nukes into perspective, doesn't it?

The Tsar Bomba explosion is 1500 times larger than the Hiroshima and 190,000 times larger than the port of Tianjin's explosion. Humanity makes some scary stuff. The Tsar Bomba's mushroom clouds was around 3 times larger than Hiroshima's it was 37 miles tall or 59,545 meters (59.5 km)

Nitrate fertilizers have exploded all over the world, the recent Beirut explosion was Nitrate fertizers, in almost every case the cause was too much stored in one place and fire. Places that follow proper handling protocols still have accidents but don't explode.

First time i get noticed of this tragedy. Where was the media? Question: How many other storages around the world got the same way of storage of dangerous chemicals? Why are the chemical engineers not promote storage regulations to legislation authorities? This is of paramount importance!

The video of the guy and his wife in a nearby apartment that filmed this was absolutely mindblowing. Typical Chinese style negligence, not surprised at all.

Hindsight is the mother of all preventions. It's all very easy a to discuss and criticize afterwards, this and that should and shouldn't have been done. The people that were in charge of that facility and knew what was stored there probably already fled the scene. So no info was available. The fire commander than has the choice of letting it burn into the other plants in that area or try to stop/contain the fire with water. The choice between being eaten by a lion or a tiger.

Cool, I went to Tianjin, China 10 years ago on business

Calcium Carbide, We used this in it's natural form to fuel Miner's acetylene Lamps. My Father and I used these exploring old Hard Rock Mines. Not near as good as Battery powered lamps but you just need the CalCarb rocks and water to have light, instead of carrying extra Batteries. And if you walk into dead air, no O2, they go out as a warning where batteries would keep working and you're dead. There are heavy gases that pool in abandoned mines. Everything from C O2, which is heavier than O2 and will collect in Un-ventilated low spots. And there are gases that come from rotting timbers, timbers used to support the back of the mine. Walk into those and you don't get a second breath, not consciously. A few breaths more and your gone.
