I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my inherited portfolio of about $2.5m. I’m used to just buying and holding assets which doesn’t seem applicable to the current rollercoaster market plus inflation is catching up with my portfolio. I’m really worried about survival after retirement.
True, I mostly just buy and hold stocks, but my portfolio has been mostly in the red for quite awhile now. Unfortunately to be able to make good gains, you’ll need to be consistent and restructure your portfolio frequently.
In my opinion, it was much easier investing back in the 60s but it’s a lot trickier now, those making consistent profit in these times are professionals reason I’ve been using an advisor for the past 5 years to consistently build my portfolio in preparations for retirement.

The key is risk analysis. The markets are and has always been unpredictable. Thus the important point is not how much one might make but what one could lose. trading and holding on speculative stocks/Crypto and even great stocks can test ones ability in the arena of our ability to control ones loss aversion bias…buy high sell low…The market is overvalued by almost all measures like the CAPE and Buffett indicator. Speculation is high with things like meme stocks (are they dead yet?), our kitty dude, Ai dreaming and all.... It is all about how much one can lose during times like these. Does that mean don't invest, of course not but one must access the risk and have a way out if the tide goes out.....I've been engaged in active trading and managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.6B'tc to a decent 24B'tc....I'm especially grateful to Sandy Barclays, whose deep expertise and traditional trading acumen have been invaluable in this challenging, ever-evolving financial landscape.

Many 2023 forecasts were no hits, and no runs. In econ class, Schiller wrote that the ideal unemployment rate to an economist is about 4.7%. So, I don't see a 4.1% unemployment rate as worthy of very much concern, assuming it's accurate data.
You just said makes no sense it has to do with percentage market capitalization drop not market capitalization when inflation goes up. Market capitalization is gonna go up so of course the magnitude of market capitalization is going to be bigger. That’s agnostic to any time in historical reference because that’s just relevant to the inflation scaler that’s used at the given time so the only thing that really matters is the percentage drop of market capitalization which could be associated back to the percentage drop of how much a stock drop.

Is there anyone here who watches Tom and also scalps? Do you honestly make money scalping? I'm learning/ new to the game and scalping has been terrible for me. On the other hand, options seem to be making me money and from the effort/ win ration, options can't be beat, so I'm tending to stick with options. No, Powell didn't give any indication that they will be cutting rates in Sept, citing they are watching and waiting for a sustained inflation rate at @ 2%, but so far, that's never happened. I think they also don't want the mistake of the mid `70's where inflation dropped and the Fed cut rates too soon and so the inflation spiked up to the moon! I honestly think that Trump was good for a stable inflation rate and they may be holding off until he gets into office 1st qtr of 2025.
Cuts may not benefit home builders as market seems to think. That's because rate cuts may thaw the existing home market brining existing inventory in market.
