For all the experts out there, you cannot get concrete with any rock you want in it. Decorative rock is extremely expensive. If you want special rock in your concrete you would have to buy tons of it, have it delivered to the concrete plant, the plant is gonna screw you big time because cleaning out the plant and making a few yards of concrete with your special rock is a pain in the ass!!! These guys can literally put ANY rock in on top and only use a few hundred pounds. So if you happen to be Bill Gates, yes you can have any aggregate you want in your concrete. For everybody else this is about the only way to do it.
As usual the majority of coments come from The DIY armchair crowd. Yeah give me 13 yards of 5 sack with pami-pebble already in it. Besides although this honestly is a shitty job they needed to wait longer to seed it. But still the difference between top seeding and the bullshit way it's done now days is night and day. This method is so much more even and consistent.
+casey thoel Do you know this brodcasting application for the exposed aggregate finish? like the base concrete, slump value, mixing ratio and aggregate size and cement type or something additive on it to delay set for the concrete, etc?
I came here after watching waterfront episode 13 to understand the different ways of achieving an exposed aggregate effect. The method you used looked a lot more efficient. You and your team did a great job on that project.
Did you see the way the helper jumped into action when the guy who was broadcasting the pebbles called for it @1:01, big hug from me. Very hard working men. Not too sure about their methods.
we used a sugar solution poured over the concrete an waited 24 hrs an washed away to expose aggots ... I can't remember just how much water an sugar...
Is this video like 25 yrs old. You can order the ready mix with whatever color aggregate you need. Pour, bullfloat, edge and powerwash..or use chemical retarder and powerwash the next day. I'd really like to see the final product. .
Lol what "colors" might those be? This is how exposed aggregate has been done since the beginning of time. ( It's actually a bad example of the process but it produces a much better finish than your method mentioned.
Throwing of aggregates may not ensure a uniform finish; can use chemical surface retarder which can be sprayed over green concrete soon after concrete placement after 3-4 hours / before initial setting of concrete. After 12 hours, with pressure jet of water over concrete surface, we can get exposed aggregate finish.
Throwing of aggregates has always given a uniform finish when the work is done by professionals ..and not donkeys! To be real...pressure spray is not the best way to get a good finish either..it tends to lift some pieces of stone...just one peice is enough to look like shit!
Why not just use the aggregate mix from the concrete company and then float it and put sugar, soda, or the chemical liquid people use for the top layer of the concrete so it wont dry and you come back the next day and power wash it, it comes out better and cheaper
no wash next day that will be hard. after 45 minutos or 1 hour finish the put salb, do wash the slab. and scrub whit a broom, after get really dry and put clear sealer concrete.
The labor is crazy expensive doing the broadcast method, and he still needs to come back and power-wash regardless. Completely inefficient... Why jerkoff the bull float twice? This is a mystery...
@@troybixby4568 Only reason to ever do this is if customer wants a specialty aggregate instead of whatever agg batch plant has and is willing to pay premium for. Can only do small pours this way too, maybe 5 yard/400 sq ft. 20 years of doing exposed agg and trying all kinds of mix designs, I still prefer just the simple 3/8" natural pea gravel. Spray with retarder and come back next morning to power wash.
I've sprayed a sugar and water solution on the smooth finished concrete, let it set a few hours, until it will hold my weight and then lightly spray the surface to the desired exposure. This method is good if the exposed rock is cost prohibitive to used in the concrete batch.
should have put all those bags in the truck ....laid the concrete ...sprayed it with ruggasole and washed it off in couple hours ....all that Labour for nothing...slay that job by myself...not hating just saying.
It depends on what kind of aggregate you want exposed, myself I order a six and a half bag pea gravel mix, looks beautiful and durable sometimes you can get a glowstone to broadcast not as heavy as that just randomly broadcast of glowstone over the surface so at night your patio lights up really looks nice on borders comes in several colors but you got to pay for it Maidenform concrete Highland Michigan 😎
There is NO WAY to get the rocks to the top if already mixed. Doing it that way gives you a nasty uneven mix if mostly rock and the rest cream. Top seeding ( although poor example shown here) is a much better consistent look when done correctly.
@@s1gmundfr3ud hmm it’s the cheap way to do it. Because their paying to have those stones throughout the whole concrete. Proper way to do it is mix it up as normal concrete with stone of choice lay it like normal spray it with sugar and hose her off. Simple.
I didn't see the starting of the job, to me the concrete has a light color, too soft to stand on top, i will hope they have use some rebars, drinking water, wash sand and aggregates , and Portland cement.
Lmao man that Old veterano has that dude running scared or something.. @104 the guy runs past the point and looks up at him like ohh me>>> ahahahahahaha am only laughing not because its to offend the guy am laughing because when you work any trade regardless of the field as apprentices or cubbies we all at one point do the same the dude looks motivated i mean he loaded that first bucket fast as fuck hahaha. I remember a foreman i had way back when and he came up to me and said am gonna tell you once and only once so listen up when ever i call you or even whenever you see me walking the floors etc idgaf what you're doing or where your going but if i look at you you better be walking fast, focus and like your on a mission to complete a task even if your going to the fucken crappers but most importantly you better have your bags on..
I think this job results should be rubbish, because he threw too much pebbles which will not be mixed enough with cement, so when he wash it , definitely pebbles will come off the floor, which will look really big mess
Triztime DORKS: I thought the same after seeing the guy hit the same areas too many times. His bullfloating would have been more effective if he had slapped on some weights like Marshalltown 18369 Bullfloat weights (5 lbs each pair).
This is how NOT to do exposed aggregate lol omg. It's called EXPOSED aggregate for a reason, you are not exposing anything, just throwing rocks on top that will never last.
Old way to to exposed concrete to much work . New way use river rock pea gravel and spray control set spray on surfaces of concrete let concrete set up then wash off with water hose finished.
