the story pinely’s brother came up with is kinda real. the main character’s struggle only being able to achieve his goal of selling the yummiest cakes by committing atrocious acts against another sentient species… truly sublime. a reference to speciesism which humans perpetuate all too often, as well as a lesson against having your alien cake and eating it too.

Hearing them awfully fail at remembering chekhovs gun had me SCREAMING. Especially when Chad Chad called it foreshadowing 😭

You might not see this, but I'd like to thank you for bringing attention to this. I'm a recent film school grad. Almost all of us at my school have wasted money at these sketchy film festivals at some point. Years ago I even got an "honorable mention" at one of the festivals you would later win, lol. After submitting to a few, I realized what was going on and stopped. My peers look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I'm never going to submit to these no-name festivals again. It's sort of an unspoken BS thing you're expected to do when you're starting out, as it's "just part of the game" and to rack up as many laurels as you can. It's sort of inescapable because starting out, you probably won't get into the festivals that matter; so "something" is better than nothing, right? That's where these scam artists make their money, by preying on unexperienced hungry dreamers. Thank you, Pinely, for shedding light onto this as it's a huge gripe of mine that isn't spoken about enough.

As an animation grad whose thesis film is in festival circuits at the moment, I feel SO CALLED OUT right now

when my brother was a middle-schooler he wrote a story about a "magic meer" (yes he spelled it that way the whole way through) and like halfway through he completely lost any semblance of plot. there was toxic waste and both of the main characters mutated into random horrifying creatures and did a big monster fight basically what i'm saying is i think this is what is inside the head of all 10-year-old boys?? it always comes back to mutated monster fights

i will say that as a person who was once a toddler that tried to animate, this is far more impressive than any of my many works

Okay but when Orr was talking about how excited his brother was to see his idea come to life that made me so happy, it’s so sweet. It reminded me of when me my brother and my cousins would pretend we were in a rock band when we were kids and we would make posters and write songs that as adults are embarrassing but as kids were just fun. I don’t really know if I had a point lol but I thought Alien Cake was charming because of that and creativity should be encouraged more and not exploited by scams or something

As someone who just graduated film school and is starting to submit my capstone film to festivals this was actually great information to have. My respect goes out to the writer and team of alien cake. Truly deserving of best short film of all time.

I was just thinking about how much I wanted an Alien Cake poster and then you said I could buy one in the link and I am literally so thrilled

I came into this video expecting to learn about how the Oscars are rigged, but I was honestly enthralled by Chad Chad's amazing acting and the small child's beautiful writing. This 10 year old has a better grasp on writing and morals than most writers in Hollywood tbh. This was a story of how humans see themselves as above other species, but the "hero" of our movie is humbled and learns that he is not above others. Amazing. Truly transcendental.

is it just me or was alien cake script kind of fire its actually original and the plot makes about as much sense as most Shakespeare plots. And it has some really deep subtext about how and what people consume and their relationship with the world around them.

The most tense part of this video was wondering if Pinely would pay $200 to $300+ to prove a point. Him not doing so let me breath.
