I can somewhat understand Chad's children not wanting to put blame on their father, but there is NO excuse/reason for the way they denigrated their mother for Chad's guilty self.
Agree as well and the fact that they were willing to commit perjury on behalf of their father and denigrate their mother leaves them without excuse. Their lack of emotion leads me to believe that they did it for the insurance money Chad bestowed on them. They may have to give it back since old dad was found guilty.
IMO, Emma and Garth Daybell were raised to believe their father was a visionary and the authority of that family. So, he is to blame for calling them to testify. He is too much of a coward to take the stand, and apparently coached them on their statements.
6:10 6:10 I believe it would have caused them to withdraw emotionally from their mother and treat her with disdain if they actually believed he was a prophet and believed all the zombie garbage and that her spirit had already departed her body and she had become a zombie. What horrible parental alienation!!
Chad, Lori and their group were practicing LDS. I think Chad was executive secretary in his ward up until his arrest I believe. What the LDS church leaders have failed to do is speak out about the extreme prepper beliefs, NDE's and visions many of this group claim to have.
@@BobbiGail I wonder if there are so many people in wards and stakes especially in Utah and Idaho that subscribe to prepper/end of times ideology like this, that the leaders fear major schism by openly challenging it? I also wonder how many top leaders also hold some of these extreme beliefs? Russell M Ballard for example was a supporter of Tim Ballard who believed he had received visions and prophetic dreams.
Chad Daybell charged with murder (among other things) not because there is direct evidence that he killed anyone himself but because he was the mastermind behind the killings. Dr John Matthias likens it to Charles Manson who didn't carry out the murders himself but incited his followers to murder.
Odd. I just read an interesting article about the church speaking out about this kind of thing a number of times. I guess a person would have to actually google for them and broaden their views to more than Chad and Lori.
Andrea Jean Klein Gregg aka Kleingregg placed a 10K hired hit on me in a conspiracy with 6 others may 28 2019 in which they failed but left me paraplegic the remainder of my shortened life
@@dakalodka visit from a bishop does not mean she is a member in good standing. In fact probably not. AND repenting of her sins to a bishop is ok. I'm not sure she can have visitors. Mike might know more about LV visitors.
LE was definitely hampered by the law when Charles called them about Lori, but they completely dropped the legal ball when it came to them not doing a thorough investigation into Charles' murder.
I also found it extraordinary that a younger woman like Tammy died unexpectedly and there was no legal requirement for an autopsy. I live in the UK and all unexpected deaths eg no recent relevant medical history, no recent contact with a medical doctor would require an autopsy (regardless of age).
41:59 one more comment, lol, about Chad’s kids: I think that Mike’s mentioning of Sam shows just WHY people are so upset with Chad’s children. Sam saw the outside world and began realizing that some of his upbringing was not healthy. Yes, Chad’s adult kids have gone through a bunch of trauma but so did Lori’s son, Colby, and he understands that his mom and Chad are murderers. 🤷♀️
To admit, Im very scarred of these kind religions... the way they speak and wright about people of color? I have to admit that I keep my kids away from them. We have no connection with any demonic energies, and are not cursed with a darker skin. We come just from a beautifull place where this skin keep us save.
52:43 As someone who testified in a federal murder trial, who has watched media and individuals alike judge and make assumptions about me and my life, hearing someone ask people to consider the impact of their judgements is incredibly powerful. Thanks, all three of you, for keeping this request in the video.
I think that if you look at the book Visions of Glory, you will see-that Chad’s beliefs are not his own. This book is a supposed personal narrative about a near death experience. There are whole groups of people who read this and use it as a blueprint for their own spiritual experiences. People actually believe that others are. Possessed by evil spirits and need to be destroyed. So it’s not just Chad and Lori.
Yes. Hidden True Crime has done deep dives on how this book Visions of Glory is connected to Jodi Hildebrandt, Tim Ballard, and Chad and Lori Daybell. I'd love to see a collaboration with Hidden True Crime.
I haven’t seen anyone speaking about Julie Rowe appearing and taken out of the courtroom during the Chad Daybell trial. Would you please investigate this?
Iirc, she was under subpoena as a witness. All witnesses weren't supposed to watch the trial, as it could change their testimony. In the end, she was never called.
Feels like he’s intentionally misleading when he says they were excommunicated while they were doing this. But they were current and active members with a temple recommend until their arrests.
Let’s get rid of the slippery slope mindset of religion. I don’t care who’s feeling it hurts. I don’t care how much comfort it brings you so many atrocities have been committed under this fairytale, under these fairytales because I don’t want anybody to think that their fairytale is special.
I have to disagree with him here. He says Lori was just cooky and no cause for alarm but Charles told police she threatened his life. That goes beyond cooky and definitely should’ve raised an alarm.
Freedom of religion is also freedom from religion. These children shouldn’t be subjected to their parents nonsense. I feel like you should be able to choose your religion once you’re 18.
@@debbieshrubb1222 Sure. I watch Hidden True Crime podcast on RU-vid. They deep dive into both Chad and Lori. They also nterview family and people who knew them.
@@jooliagoolia9959 I must have missed that! I watch Hidden True Crimes too. Heather Daybell I thought said, Chad wanted to store his prepper stuff at her home when he was planning to move to Idaho?
Absolutely agree. To say that their religious beliefs and background didn't fuel this is just once again allowing religion to be absolved of responsibility.
There are no rules for joining, we don't have any rules on what to believe or how to behave, values and morals are not imposed upon us, and anyone can identify as MAGA or reject MAGA whenever they want.
Mike, I am a true fan, and I see your point about the initial difficulty for Arizona LE to prove malice in Charles’s shooting. However, even if they had no other information about the players leading up to his death, the mere fact that he was shot and killed should be enough to warrant a cursory investigation. It should be standard procedure, in “self defense” cases, to restrict travel outside the state of the named parties until interviews are conducted that confirm the events leading up to the killing, imo. One phone call to Adam, Colby, or Kay would have been enough to raise suspicions.
@@hellomello258 No they are not their "kids" they are their children from their relationship. When this was all going down they all 5 of them are adults.
@@lynnhartin8974 "Kid" is a standard informal synonym of "child". It is correct to refer to them as Chad and Tammy's kids. They are often called "their adult kids" to clear up any potential misunderstandings related to age.
@@lynnhartin8974 This video isn't a court of law. I watched most days of the trial and watched recaps from multiple channels of I didn't see most of the day. There was never any confusion over the age of the Daybell children, regardless of how they were referred to.
Blessings to all! I think Charles was killed in mid July in Arizona . Lori and family moved to Idaho the end of August. I would think it takes some time to investigate crimes such as murder... I’m willing to not be judgmental about the Arizona police since the potential subjects have moved... she didn’t leave a forwarding address...she wouldn’t even tell her son where she was moving.
The trauma that the kids went through.... what about the trauma of the children's survivors, the trauma of Lori's son, and the survivors of Tammy's family. Too many people are coddling Chad kids. I fear for the children around them...
Comparing religion to the medical profession is just ridiculous what is necessary and the other one is not. One uses evidence to correct itself and the other one does not.
Respectfully, I don't think the analogy was meant to compare religion to medicine. But rather suggesting that ANY whole group or organization should not be condemned for the abhorrent actions of one or a few individuals acting on their own. (Unless of course they were being directed somehow BY the entity.)
A family member thought marriage was arrest for child sexual abuse.when I married into the family he was a favorite and I admired him very dedicate to church and family. My heart is broken.
What you were talking about being wacky vs criminal reminds me of Minority Report. You can't arrest people on the possibility of them committing criminal acts because they have the choice to not go through with it to the very last millisecond before they do. Unfortunately, it is when that bad choice is done that they then must reap the consequences of that action and we can truly judge if they would have done it, because they did.
Lori made a statement in her trial telling how her children were both suffering from illness and over-dossed or took their own life to end the suffering. The jury didn't believe her. Where she got the idea we don't know. Jury got it right in my opinion. The end justified the means as far as Lori was concerned. Whether they believed it or not, they are subject to our law. It is not legal to kill your kids.
IMO, Emma and Garth Daybell were raised to believe their father was a visionary and the authority of that family. So, he is to blame for calling them to testify. He is too much of a coward to take the stand, and apparently coached them on their statements
We're supposed to be capable of praying at home, in private, as well as have weekly fellowship and corporate worship with other Christians. You just can't be all dependent/victimy about it when you look for a church family to belong to! The vast percentage of the Christian population is just fine and isn't manipulated like this, but there's a scary number of people who are totally wishy-washy with no sense of self.
You mentioned the far right but failed to mention the left wanted to dismantle the police at the time. It would be important to know how much crime has been ignored and how many murders are unsolved.
Lori Vallow was convicted of murder for JJ and Tylee, as well as conspiracy to commit murder for JJ, Tylee, and Tammy. The death penalty was taken off the table because of discovery issues with the prosecution; the prosecution kept missing deadlines for discovery. The judge had a choice--dismiss the charges, or drop the death penalty. He chose to drop the death penalty.
Let me remind you: Everyone keeps referring to them as "kids"...Chad's children were grown a$$ ADULTS! PLUS..Emma remained friends with Lori so who was she blaming?? Just sayin...
Lauren Matthias from Hidden True Crimes and her forensic psychologist husband, Dr John Matthias have been following this case closely from the beginning. I think their knowledge about this case is probably more robust in this instance.
I agree, I was frustrated with some of the simple mistakes. Like, not only were they still lds members, they had temple recommends, and Chad had a post with the bishop. Like, the prosecution didn't call Chad's kids as witnesses. Like, Alex's death has been declared natural and it doesn't seem like it will be investigated further (no matter how much of an unlikely coincidence it seems), like Alex didn't stop believing in Chad's nonsense although he did make a statement about possibly being a fall guy. There were more, I was irritated, lol.
@@BecBec295 I was listening to an interview with one of the investigating police officers and one of the prosecution team and they said they too had been really suspicious about the cause of Alex's death; because of that alot of care was taken over the autopsy and they confirmed it was natural causes. One of his family said he had not had a healthy lifestyle and the PM showed alot of cardiovascular disease. He must also have been under alot of stress carrying out the murders.
@debbieshrubb1222 yes, I heard an interview a while back, I think it was with a forensic pathologist, that convinced me it was likely a natural death and the timing was just coincidence. But I still just keep saying, "I wonder..."
@@debbieshrubb1222 They did not receive any sealing ordinance. If they did go to the temple they were doing ordinances for other people who were not living. Now they might have decided in their own minds that they were doing it for themselves but that would not have been the case.
@@annewandering well that's an interesting one because at least one fundamentalist polygamist group was using the temple for ordinances up until the priesthood ban was rescinded. There was sympathy for the group/s because it was reported by a member that LDS church authorities would speak at their meetings so why not sympathetic temple workers too? Likewise if there are LDS temple workers who also subscribe to similar prepper dogma as Chad Daybell and others of that ilk, it's logical to assume they would be sympathetic to sealing them.
@@annewandering so how do you know that? (My sources are extremely informed BTW... Daybell case as well as others reveal the hidden underbelly of mormonism).
Chad being on death roll will have no contact with anyone. His food is even delivered through a slit in his door. The door only has one narrow window. He will be allowed outside for 1 hour a day but he will be locked inside a cage while enjoying the great outdoors.
In Idaho, documents state that he can have monthly video visits and one yearly in person visit but it’s likely no contact. He’s also able to mail or call so he can have contact with others.
You have written books stating LDS and Jehovah’s Witnesses are cults. Now you admit that there are individuals who make their own beliefs in every religion, and THOSE beliefs which stray from their original religion are cults. So you owe LDS and Jehovah’s Witnesses an apology.
People in high demand religions are no more inclined to violent behavior than any other demographic. The difference is that a warped sense of righteousness comes from a bona fide belief system. Really, what draws your audience is the curiosity we all have about these high demand groups. I think the majority of your audience members are never-mos. What i appreciate so much about your channel is the empathy you retain for FLDS and LDS members while acknowledging the issues there. You might want to connect with Frieda Vizel, who grew up chassidic in Williamaburg, a kind of Shortcreek of Hassidic Jews in New York. I would be fascinated by the overlap Judaism and Mormonism have; for example, garments and tallit. Also, just the pressure to "put it on the shelf." Just a thought! I think a collab would help boost audience for the both of you.
Sooo many thoughts and I'll try to go in order😅 1. I would soo love to cruise with you guys but I am a helicopter dog mom, and I have yet to hear of a dog friendly cruise line 😂 but super cool idea and im excited for everyone who can go 🥰!!! 2. I think that was my comment!!! I feel so seen ❤😂 hearing Mike put words to my initial thought and the truth of the conclusion I came to really feels...complete. Like, I'm not the only one who's jumped to that conclusion, and I'm not the only one who thought "was it something about being a member of xyz group that drove this person to do this ridiculousness?!" And where I think the answer is in part yes...because they use what they know, it doesn't mean being a member of xyz group predisposed them to their crimes. 3. Sam, I'm so glad you didn't go back ❤ thinking of you sleeping in your car, and all the thoughts you must have had running through your head breaks my heart but I'm so glad you're here to be making the impact you are and spreading the goodness that you do!! You and Melissa make me want to be a better more patient humble and more wholesome person! You're both so careful and gentle with your words, it's so...foreign to me lol but it's really really really inspiring ❤
What’s crazy, is how dumb they were. They could have gotten everything they wanted without killing anyone. Divorce Charles and get alimony and child support, but then send the kids to grandparents. I guess Chad didn’t want to pay alimony himself, but I don’t think he would have because it was claimed that he didn’t make much money
IT'S ANY EXTREME FORM OF ANY RELIGION. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT EVERY EXTREMIST RELIGION HAS SOME SORT OF SUBJUGATION OF WOMEN, AS WELL. EITHER WAY, IT MAKES THE REST OF US REPULSED.
The positives of Chad convicted to the death penalty are he is in a cel for 23 hours a day, no communication with anybody in prison and very limited visits from family but cut off from them
This was not proven in court, though Dr. John Matthias suspects Chad murdered Tylee in large part because she seemed to have overkill injuries and Chad is capable of the level of anger required to create those injuries.
Correction: Colby lost his siblings and mother, Lori, not wife. The only wife who died was Chad's. Kay and Larry lost their grandson (who was adopted by Kay's brother, Charles). The very close knit Douglas family lost Tammy. The Vallow family lost Charles. And Tylee is deeply missed by Colby and those who remain, even if Colby is her only close blood relative.
30:43 I understand his point of view; that if Lori truly believes in Chad’s belief system she wouldn’t hide her crimes. However, I think Lori does truly believe AND she also thinks that “normal” people wouldn’t understand what she “had” to do. In my mind, it’s more complicated than just: Lori doesn’t *actually* believe because she lied. 36:07 - here he says that Lori does truly believe, so I think he understands it’s more complicated than simply that Lori doesn’t actually believe. I think this nuance is important to understand so that religious crimes like this don’t continue happening. Thank you for your videos and reactions! Always appreciated. ❤ Such a sad story.
Great interview It was always about money Both Chad and Lori just wanted $ but had no intention of working They were both lazy and had been supported financially for years They just wanted to go to Hawaii and sit by the pool
For anyone who wants to know more about why the detectives didn't jump in to make arrests needs to watch Nate Eaton's interview with Lt Hermisillo and prosecutor wood. They share why
Love Mike King! Always gives the needed perspective to put the harsh thoughts to those that committed the intentional acts not everyone around it… ✨🙏🏼✨
@diannebenavidez6644: parental alienation; they had been raised to see Chad as a prophet so what he said went, and he said Tammy had become a zombie. They no doubt understood that to mean that she was not Tammy but a zombie and I believe that would have caused their emotional withdrawal from her.
