You omit that the Nektar NX-P pedal also has a switch to change the polarity to ensure compatibility. I am a keyboard player I have two expression pedals: the Behringer FCV 100 and the Yamaha FC-7. I am very happy with both but both are too heavy to take live. That's why I'm after the Nektar. I am also in the business of repairing electronic instruments. Your problem with it has to do with a faulty or dirty potentiometer. In both cases it would be solved by replacing it with a higher quality one, something quite easy to do. If the same thing happens to me with the Nektar, that is what I will do. PS. I don't like Amazon at all. It is a worldwide monopoly that only serves to make the richest man on the planet almost four thousand dollars every second. Barbaric.

Yes, should have mentioned the polarity switch - I use that quite a bit as I move pedals from keyboard to keyboard. Thanks for watching.

I’ve been doing a deep-dive on this topic in the quest to get a true B3-like tapered volume expression for my Nord Electro 2. The Boss EV-5’s is horrible; similar to how you described the Nektar. The Yamaha pedal is incompatible unless you buy a bunch of cables to swap the TRS polarity. The Moog EP-3 supposedly has the tapered response. There’s also the Crumar long-throw pedal, but its resistance range may be outside what is specified by Nord. All that to say that this is a more complex thing than most people realize

So true. While my Boss EV-30 was an improvement over the Nektar pedal, even it has not been ideal. Continuing to have an eye open for a better pedal as well. Thanks for stopping by to watch and best wishes on finding an optimal pedal for your situation.

@@brew2019 FWIW, I just found out from Crumar that the EXP-10 universal long-throw pedal has a resistance of 10kOhms, which is within the specifications of the Nord Electro 2

I need one for synth volume control. Two sounds piano and organ. I want the organ to shut off when the pedal's a zero .[I also have the piano programed not to respond to the pedal.]. Will this do that?

I don't believe this can control two inputs in different ways if I understand your question correctly. It would be able to handle synth volume for sure. I'm not familiar with programming cc7 by sound or patch, only globally. Sorry I can't be of more help on this question - as I don't think I have a way of testing the scenario on my rig.

Have you tried the Yamaha FC-7 yet? I am always looking for the maximum "throw" from an expression pedal, and that is the best one I have found yet. It looks like it has about double the throw of the EV-30?

Appreciate your thoughts. Recently, I've been concerned with the EV-30 throw - in that the volume range for my keyboard only seems be most controllable in the last 1/2 or 1/3 of the throw range. I'll give the Yamaha FC-7 a try next - hopefully, it engages more range of volume throughout the entire throw range of the pedal.

@@brew2019 FWIW - the FC7 only works on yamaha stuff "as is". If you want to use it on a Roland, you need to flip the "polarity" of the connector. To get full use out of the whole range, I also wired mine so that each half of the pot is in parallel with a 47K resistor. This adds another power of two to the log curve and drops the value down to roland range. Oh, you can also use the Yamaha without change on Nord Electro 5D and presumably other Nords.

@@brew2019 Hi, I only need use pedal in DAW to input expression for Strings and Solo instruments , 1output port is just fine for me. But I still consider EV-5 and EV-30, if the control accuracy are same , I just need EV-5. But if EV-30 is better , I will take EV-30 only use 1 port. How about the EV-5 with EV-30 ? any experience to share with me?

@@brew2019 Finally,I order a EV-30 today. Becasuse I watch the linear test, EV-5 seems not smooth.

I'm still looking for an even better Expression Pedal. The Boss was an improvement over my prior pedal, though it has room for improvement. Thanks for stopping by to watch!

If you can get that pedal into a perpendicular position, you're doing something wrong ... and will probably need a new pedal. But getting it parallel is easily doable! 😉

My Boss EV-30 has been a great upgrade over several prior similar pedals and it is super sturdy. Eyes always open for new innovations from companies but for now, this pedal is holding up nicely. Thanks for watching.
