Since my teens I've been fascinated by the paintings of Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775-1851) a British landscape artist working in watercolors and oils.
In this video I will try and use similar colors and make a modern atmospheric landscape with dramatic sunset - sort of a tribute to one of my art heros. I will strive to achieve a feeling of atmospheric light and poetic color. And I'll be using my acrylic colors.
Materials in the video:
Acrylic colors: Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue, Titanium White and Mars Black.
Paper: 160lb/200gram acid free sketchbook paper.
Crayons: Caran d'ache Neo color II
I invest a lot of time and love in filming and editing the videos so I'm very happy for your support. Please like and subscribe to the channel

Beautiful! I am new to painting and this is exactly the type of semi abstract i was looking for. My main hobby is photography, but i am looking for something even more personal as a way of expression. I intend to use some of my landscape photographs as an inspiration. Monet signed the visitors book at a Turner retrospective in London around 1860 and very soon after the "Impressionist " style and movement began. In fact early Monet works were thought to be views of the Thames. What matters though is feeling, lightness and speed of painting. Turner would be proud of you, even if he was a little mad when he died.

Hello Marie. I like and paint only large abstracts and abstracted landscapes in this Turner / Innes / watercolor like style. Searches on your name shows you with many large, abstracted landscapes (gallery shows). Vlog about them... Also, please vlog yourself demo painting a large landscape (talk about the challenges scale has on this / your technique). And, please vlog about and demo paint (large) in the style of George Innes. Best wishes....

Thank you for all that....sincerely. And so, I shall look forward with much anticipation to your vlogs on those "ideas"! BTW, do not worry or be bothered about vlogs that run up to 30-minutes long on time. You could break them into parts. P.S. Your English (grammar, vocab and pronunciation) is excellent.

Another informative and relaxing video. I love how you get your paint to move so effortlessly across the page. Perhaps one day you could let us see your palette and the consistency of your paint.. I find my paint dries too quickly and becomes too difficult to move. I have found your course on line really helpful .I have watched it through twice and now fell confident to give it a go. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@TheDanishPainter
@TheDanishPainter 3 года назад
Hi Marion and thank you! Yes the paint to water ratio is something that will require a bit a practice but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. After a while it becomes easier - I could compare it to baking bread - sometimes we need to add more flour to the dough to get the right consistency. Not to wet and not too dry. With practise we get a "feel" for how much or how little to add (hope my analogy makes sense) Thanks for your comment and for buying the course - yay! Best greetings from Denmark

Thank you once again for your work! Would really like to see how you mix your colours and exactly how much water you use, it seems like you use a lot but your paper doesnt get wet as mine. (I've bought some good paper this time)
@TheDanishPainter
@TheDanishPainter 3 года назад
Yes Indigo is the commercial name for their brand and I haven't seen it with other brands. But if I were going to mix Indigo myself it would be a mixture of black and primary blue. Start with primary blue and add small amounts of black, bit by bit, until you have a dark blue color. Thanks for watching :)

This is such a fabulous painting! All the atmosphere you put in the sky...the light just explodes. I wasn't aware of JMW Turner, but will have to find out more about his work. I am originally from British Columbia, Canada and really admired Emily Carr paintings as a young person. Now I live in Oregon and it's so amazing that we can watch a Danish painter and learn so much. Although my paintings don't look anything like yours, I am so inspired by the beauty you create. Surely you have so much practice, experience and training behind you! And wow, he is amazing at bringing out the emotion in his work. It is on display here till the 10th and I will go and see it again next week. I can never appreciate this kind of art these days, and before, but, perhaps, I just need to learn to love these kinds of art!!! I mean, these days, I've been trying to make LALLY MILLE's art, which is full Mixed Media art, and a bit "abstract, but when I looked back to it, I feel disgusted again and again!!! Why am I feeling this???In fact, it's the most advanced and intellectual way of art expression!!! Perhaps, my eyes and my heart are not well trained, yet!!! Sorry, for the artists that I have come by here on RU-vid, that I have said negative things about!!! I'm really really sorry!!!I didn't mean to hurt you, I just expressed my thoughts...
