Glad you got one its the best 1 piece but just so hard to get. I have one too and would rate it 7/10 there just are not any better options as big vendors slowly engage with the demand. The big vendors generally don't make narrow sizes yet while only supporting a very limited number of bikes with the needed spacers all while charging crazy money with bad stock availability. You likely will find it is noticeably less stiff than a two part while fit and internal finish is good but not the best. The two bottom rubber covers protrude too much and are annoying but the holes can be vinyl wrapped over easily. The future is super narrow and for that you still need 2 part. I asked EXS and they currently do not plan to make any super narrow bars until at least the next gen of road Shimano.
I just realized you have an affiliate link for Monton - picked up a skinsuit from them for TTs and am very impressed. Will probably buy another and use your code, Patty!
I have them in a 380/90 stem on my blackheart road ti and love them with also craft 40-45 wheelset my bike titanium with pedals ti cages and the garmin mount front and rear 17.4 pounds and bike flies..great cockpit
I feel like there is room/demand in the market for more Chinese companies to start pumping out high quality bar/stem units. We've got bike companies like Canyon who won't budge on the way they sell bikes with only one stem length - and often it's not even possible for a customer to buy a bar/stem unit from them for their bike.
I have it in venge and sl7. It is great. Very stiff and look awsome. you need to pay attention to the length of the stem becouse bar reach is 70 not 75 or 80 like in specialized stem
Yup I mentioned that in video. Also keep in mind the effective overall reach of the stem on integrated cockpits is always longer than the advertised length. It's just the way these brands take measurements. So a 140mm stem length cockpit is more like 150mm, which more than compensates for the 5mm reduced bar reach.
Tell yourself they will make you faster (may just, since they are more aero) as motivation to do the upgrade. When setting up my bike i purchased some quick link adaptors which make it easier to make changes to the cockpit. Worse case you need only change the hose at the stem where the adaptors sit. They are Q-Connector SpeedLink Bicycle Brake Hydraulic Coupler from Zenocyle. Should also make things easier if you are traveling with the bike and need to disconnect the handlebar/stem
Wicked thanks for the suggestion! I was able to install the bars with just barely enough cables. We are good to gooo, but of course it’s raining here now lol
Due to the high demand of these handlebars currently, there is no incentive for EXS to either keep these bars in stock or do pre-orders. And I suspect EXS will continue to (purposely) create artificial demand. Similar to the way Nike/Jordan Brand release their shoes in limited batches.
I paid full price, so I'd like to think I'm just a regular customer. But who knows if they seen my social media and RU-vid in order to "expedite" me a pair. Because my handlebar spec I imagine isn't very popular.
Hello Patrick, today, which bike do you like the most in terms of aesthetics and performance of all the ones you have owned? thank you and sorry for my english
Hey Patty, just wondering what saddle height do you run? 140mm stem and only one spacer under the stem curious why you don't run a 58 for the extra reach and slam it?
nice! i have been patiently waiting for an EXS in my size on my cervelo soloist.. in the meantime i did get to 6.9kg with pedals, bottle cages, and computer mount. :) btw, do you have plans to keep the 140mm SL7 Stem? if not, i would be very interested in purchasing it from you. 140's are hard to find second hand
Patrick, How tall are you? I see you have a 56 SL8 and now running 140mm stem. I'm about to get an SL8 in size 56 and am in contact with EXS. I am thinking of 110x400 based on my current setup. BMC Teammachine with 110x400 Ritchey bar/stem combo. Thanks in advance!
I'm 6 feet tall. Short torso, average length legs, but very wide wingspan. And quite flexible too. I'm always in search of more reach not too look pro, but because my professional bike fitter told me so LoL. I find a longer reach significantly more comfortable for my riding dynamics.
I wish someone made an integrated bar/stem over 140mm. Lots of pros could use them and even they don't get them. There are riders running 170s. This would fit me ok if it had an 80mm reach
For a winter project Im tempted to build a bike with a super long reach. Ali Express sells alloy stems from 150 to 170 that seem to be durable. In fact I met a crit racer who uses like 160 that you can buy on AliX
@PatrickLino I have a 150 KCNC I'm quite happy with. I run a carbon Zipp 140 -12d on my Domane with Easton bars with 85mm reach for my main bike. I'm not a huge fan of the bars but it gets me most that reach I want. I'd really like a 100mm reach bar for riding the tops chilling on long climbs. I'm really never feeling overreached on the long end, but having a wide window from the tops to the hoods would be ideal. Speeco has a custom bar I may buy at some point but I'd hate to buy without riding it first
hydraulic hose length anxiety! when i finally got my cockpit and swapped out my 2 piece bar/stem i was rewarded with literally the exact bare minimum hose length i needed to get the job done despite (what i believed to be!) adequate planning on the temp 2 piece install. Needless to say new hoses will be required if/when i have to change headset bearings!
@@TheBassallyear100 UPDATE: I cut and reinstalled the hydraulic cables. I literally just barely had enough cable left to use the EXS bars haha. And I mean BARELY.
I’m curious what the width is on the drops? When I went to 38s I found my knees hit the drops on climbs. Because they were alloy I was able to flare them to 42. But I’m looking for a carbon set.
It has a very minor flare of +20mm center to center at the drops vs the clamps. Following the bar curve with slightly bent in levers gives around -20mm at the hoods hand position.
Nice review, but why are riders so enthusiastic about 1 piece bar & stem combo's? Best thing ever are "AFFORDABLE" Separate bars & stems that are much easier to replace when the bar breaks. A couple ounces will never be felt!
Cycling is not a sport of virtuous and shrewd bike purchases. Despite whatever delusion we may have. Consumers care about aesthetics and how it makes them feel. But you already knew this haha...
1 part is a nice finishing part but in my opinion should never be sold stock on any bike as fit is far more important. Honestly its mostly aesthetics, clean routing, and stiffness to weight as they are overall less stiff in my experience. You also get the center of the bar as a place to rest your wrists or forearm when holding a bike computer in a tt like tuck but that's super niche and not exactly the safest way to ride.
This is why I buy a frame and build it up. For example - I can’t het a 165mm crank on a size L 58 bike. I have a particular saddle and handlebar/stem combination that I prefer. I have preferences for wheels and tires.
And on the other hand why are riders so stubborn and refuse to upgrade to a one piece bar/stem? One less moving part, one less area of concern. But I get where you are coming from; since it doesn’t really matter given that it’s the mechanic who has to deal with it anyway. My mechanic does all bike related work on my bikes, so having a more troublesome separate stem/bar is irrelevant since it’s my mechanic who has to deal with it anyway, not me lol! 😂😂 Just throw the bike to the mechanic for any maintenance work, and pick it up the following week once done. Doesn’t get any simpler than that. In the meantime, just ride your other bikes while you wait,
@@PatrickLino it is very expensive unfortunately but It seems like its "first" chinese bike with Windtunnel testing you know. but it seems that aero isnt everything you know its much more whole feeling of bike which I feel like its not so good from chinese bikes after you reviewed the giant propel and tarmac sl8 pro
@@cenkuluisik6656 Patrick has been clear based on his experience if he had to choose (again) between the Giant and the Tavello, his choice would be the Tavelo. Have had my eye on seka for awhile. I have no doubt its worth its price tag (seka 2100 with integrated handlebar/stem, aero bottle cages: Tarmac SL8 Pro at a little over 4K with same), hence my decision to purchase the spear.. You should take a look at Cam Nicols review of the seka exceed RDC (version before the spear)
@@PatrickLino combination of XDS X Lab frameset, Bigrock handlebar, Upvine wheelset and Magene powermeter are quite popular for local mid price build. Winspace n hyper are cctually not as popular as in overseas, because of how they do marketing, tbh I do not agree on their business model of ignoring local market.
I put the EXS Aerover straight onto my SL8 10r Frameset when I built it. So it will be interesting to hear how it compares to your current setup. I find my SL8 a little harsher on the front than my SL6 and wonder if it's the cockpit.
