@cnichols998 YES BRO!!!!! Saw them in concert earlier this year. I have listened straight through the whole Dark Sun album so many times. Phenomenal! 😍
First snow here hit last night! Woke up to 3" of snow so I'm done for the year! Where I live, only have 2 seasons. Riding season, and then winter. The seasons will also switch within a few days! 😲😬😡
I have textile riding pants and jackets. With a liner I can add in and remove. Works really well. When riding in colder weather I do wear a shirt and vest or hoody underneath my jacket as well and another pants under my riding pants. Say a gym pants/house pants or a normal jeans but also the ones who feel like wearing a house pants. They're solid!
Great video. You got great ideas. Snow ski jackets out perform motorcycle jackets. I found really nice jackets at the thrift store for under $10. Any air leaks or exposed skin are terrible. I would put my jacket over my helmet and gloves on top of the heat register before leaving the house. I commuted for 5 years 365 days a year in northern Ohio. The coldest temp was -10°F. My favorite snow bike was an xt225 with trials tires. I passed many cars stuck in ditches during driving bans. I eventually started driving a car. I saved so much in gas....I bought a house down south. Still hit single digits here in NC last winter. Helps to change to a lower viscosity oil in real cold temps...I like your cat. And stay warm!!!!
Thank you for the feedback and tips! I haven't done it but yes I have heard ski/snowboarding/snowmobile jackets and pants are great! Kudos to you for riding in that kind of cold 🥶 thats crazy that it got that cold in NC. Goes to show you have to be prepared always 😮
I actually enjoy riding in the cold more, make sure you're gear fits you well to retain heat. I wear a Alpinestars Rhod Jacket over top of Columbia sweat shirt. Keeps me comfortable down to around 40° anything colder and I throw on a balaclava and some thermals. I've comfortably went down to 18° with this set up going through the blue ridge parkway. My biggest tip is to take it slower, watch the road for ice and be careful!
My current riding season has been 23 years long so far and lived in Maryland and Wa. State. Best thing I've gotten was a Joe Rocket Survivor suit. About 500 bucks but it's a one piece, has CE armor, very durable (lasted 5 years so far), comes with a removable quilted liner and is very roomy for extra layers or regular clothes underneath. Great tips on the bags and nitrile over gloves. Those are life savers and save a lot of money not having to buy more expensive gloves and boots. Even the "warmest" ones always have some air gap issue that lets a little chill in.
Hi Melissa, parked my bike last week. This morning I woke up to 3" of snow on the ground! ! 😬😢 Time to make sure my battery tender is working and look forward to next spring. Love you. Cheers! 🤗
this is great. I am in Connecticut and recently rode at 37F knowing I would be coming home later in the day at 70F. I was toasty warm with my layering except my hands and I have heated grips. The back of my hands got cold. The nitrile gloves is a fabulous idea. Thanks.
Loving the motovlog ,(and your bike looks awesome!). I live and ride in England (eastern England near Cambridge), so it's not so cold, snowy or icy (as Minnesota is), but wet, dark and gloomy this time of year. Had a great ride on my motorcycle today (in my long johns and jeans!) and longsleeve t-shirt, sweater and my moto jacket. Fairly used to autumn/winter riding, but the dark nights can be an issue with headlight glare and not seeing the differences in the road surfaces as clearly as other times of year when its lighter. Thanks.
Lol... Heck yeah... Base layer and keep riding... I am still able to ride in 25 degree weather. Awesome sauce!!! LETTSSS GOOOOO BAAABYYYYYYY!!! O... I'm in North Georgia 😊
I live about 40 min from deals gap into TN (not exactly a "cold" part of the country) and last night ambient temp was about 50* or so when I left the store for home. Riding by the lakes at 65mph was unpleasantly cold. Wind chill is no joke. Its a factor even in pretty comfy ambient temps. One thing I noticed though, obviously helmets vent to keep the visor from fogging, but my face was COLD. Even with the helmet vents closed. I'll have to mitigate that somehow. If ya'll have pin-locks for your visors, use em. Really nice when the visor doesn't fog up.
@1mangostick my helmet keeps my face relatively warm. (Surprisingly) thats where those balaclavas come in handy! And 💯 riding next to water you can feel the coolness. We have several lakes around my area and its always nice to ride by them in the summer, but not so much now! 🥶
Solid tips 👌 I like that you seem to have a video game something or other in most of your vids. It's like an Easter egg! You showing your shoes was funny were you on your new stool 😂
I really hope you get motorcycle jeans for next season. The lower part of our bodies need to be protected too. One thing I do to keep me warm is I have riding jeans that are oversized for me so I can wear them over a regular pair of jeans. In the summer I can wear them over a pair of shorts and then remove the riding jeans when I get to where I am going. Peace, ride safely , ride often.
@erich.4305 oh yes 💯 riding pants are on the list for next season! The ones i am getting are over $250 (pando moto) so just didnt have the extra this year 🙂
@@danswizzle4113 ahhh, heated vests 🤤 never owned one but borrowed one from a friend once years ago for some fence work in the winter. They are phenomenal. 👌
Fellow Minnesotan rider here who rides until they put the first salt on the roads. Thanks for sharing these tips! I use a heated jacket liner from Cycle Gear that runs off a standard SAE cable, and it keeps me toasty down into the low 30s with just a long sleeved t-shirt underneath and my summer riding jacket on top with the vents closed. Otherwise, a rechargeable heated vest works great as well. I'm a bigger dude, so too many layers makes me feel like the marshmallow from Ghostbusters.
7:30 Neat combo. It's my first year riding so as the temperature falls away I'd been thinking about whether I can get away with a large hoodie or winter jacket over the top of my summer riding jacket. Retain the protection under the surface, but nullify the venting! Thanks for the insights in the video, I might try it out sometime P.s. gave me a good laugh with how much you leaned into the foot-bag idea 🤣
Even on cooler mornings in the summer I threw on a hoodie like this and it works great! That stuff works up to a certain point...but by the time it doesnt it probably really is too cold to ride anyway 😂
Melissa, that sweet cat is adorable! Cats are God's wonderfully, special creatures. Also, it is good to ride in chilly weather but also use layers to protect you from cold and refrain from riding on icy roads. 💪😻
@bobbyc_6d Homesick specifically has been on my morning commute playlist amongst others of course and hasnt moved the whole year. 🫡😍 something about that song and a sunrise puts me in the right place
and heated grips i have them but they are not as good as having heated gloves but did love my heated grips riding back from the track in the summer with heavy rain my hands where getting cold (summer gloves) the grips where very nice to have
Great tips Mel. One question, or a concern - the gear, as I understand it, is made to help us survive the crash by letting us slide to a full stop. I am a bit afraid then I wear something over my gear, the slide can change to tumble and that matters worse. Whats your take on this?
@Marcurus this is a great question! I dont know for sure! 🫣🤣 i wont go into a whole speech on survivorship bias on gear or all of the variables involved here on all the ways ypu could take a fall or tumble, but my honest take is that as long as the armor is in the right places underneath everything, the extra bulk on top shouldnt effect what it is supposed to do, which is have so much heat resistance it doesnt shred immediately when you hit pavement. While i dont know for sure, one could argue having an extra layer or two on top of hear may absorb more of that heat therefore making the protection greater...? All that to say if it makes you feel unsafe, dont do it 🙏
In the UK they have a biker season, most have put away their bikes. They act as if its a toy not transport fun. I'm still riding and probably will till middle December. Jan is when its frosty snow. Its a hassle taking your bike to the gym too. Strong Wind is really dangerous too. Do not ride in strong winds ever.
@steve00alt70 wait so they can fine you or give you a ticket for riding certain parts of the year? Thats nuts 😳 and yes not only can be dangerous with strong winds but also its just not fun when you have to fight the wind the whole ride!
@@joyridemel yeah i wish we had longer fall and spring days here. You get maybe 2 weeks of perfect weather in the spring and fall. The rest is either too hot or too cold for my tastes. 😊
I don't know about the plastic bags on the feet. Wouldn't that make your feet sweat? When your feet sweat, they will get cold. A motor officer once shared this tip. He used anti-perspirant spray on his feet. I ride all year in southeastern Pennsylvania and I wear heated gear when it goes down into the 30's. That consists of an old Widder heated vest, arm chaps, and gloves. I also have Widder heated leg chaps that I wear when it drops into the teens. All of that cost me around $100 on E-bay.
@Silverwinger82 the bags work for me but i do take them out when i get to my destination. Because they help protect against outside moisture and air, from the outside the same thing goes and it can trap in the same from the inside. Everyone is different! 🙂 and $100 for all that good deal!!!! 👍
Funny you should say that... I have been Uniting us Girl Rider's for a Decade now. I guess you haven't seen any of my MotoVid yet eh.? 😉 I would like to highlight your channel to other in the future, as I just discovered you not that long ago Melissa. (is this your correct spelling.?)
Grips! Then you have flexibility in the glove selection :) (I have weird hands, and I don't have that much choice in what to wear, and gloves needs to fit great to work great).
My thoughts, with the heated gloves you know your hands are going to stay warm . 😊. With heated grips, the cold air may take most of the heat away and the heat may never get into your glove to your hands. 😞
@@attackandsnack thanks man il have to get one before the other a ive just a cbr 1000 and im sure to get good quality grips and gloves will cost a pretty penny that i wont have straight away
@@Marcurus yeah i get you i persoally dont like gloves that dony allow me to feel anything like winter gloves. I prefer summer gloves but they offer less protection but are very comftable and i can feel what im touching. I wonder where heated gloves fall on that concern. Thanks for you feedback i appreciat it
@derekwatt2767 oooof. Yeah thoughts might change.... if i remember correctly Scotland is very wet no? I imagine with so much moisture in the air the cold really sinks into your bones! 🥶
@@JessicaSimonson1976 no disrespect here at all: You may have skipped over the part where i talk about that. The plan is to get riding pants this next year for better protection 🙂
@@joyridemel I went down twice on race tracks speeds over 60 mph in corners and walked away.....I stress wearing gear no matter what. You can buy a Alpine Star V3 touring coat that will work for all 4 Seasons...for $480.00, buy matching riding pants this gear alone often warm enough come winter. I recommend actually trying on gear before you purchase in store...as runs different due to euro sizing. Good wind resistant, waterproof material, waterproof pockets for important things, ventilated for those hot days, zip out liners for colder days. I ride in 19° temps in Wisconsin....has done job keeping me warm.
@@joyridemel I crashed twice at speeds over 60 mph on track wearing gear.....I walked away unharmed. I now stress the importance of gear in all situations.
