This is the extended version of • Adding New Cat6A Ether... this video. This version has more content sped up by 800% in most occasions. It's also somewhat less fancy.
I have been meaning to remount our Home TV on the wall and needing to add network drops behind the TV on the wall. Well finally after months of planning, I can finally move forward on the project. Not only did we add 4 Ethernet drops behind the TV but we also added two more ethernet drops on the outside of my house for some PoE IP Cameras. Huge shout out to Fiber Store (FS.com) for sponsoring this video so I could make this project finally happen.

FYI for all you do it yourselfers, most CAT cable is marked every foot with a length number. If you write down the first marker number, pull the wire and then subtract the last marker you get the length of the cable without pulling it back out of the wall to use as a length reference.

Thank you for sharing this, I really enjoy watching these install wire run type of videos. As someone who goes into attics almost every day, I highly recommend wearing a mask when you go up there. Little pieces of fiberglass float around and will get into your lungs. Also those cardboard flaps on the edges are baffles. They are used for ventilation and to block soffets from getting clogged. You can run wires over them. If you hit them with the drill bit or move them it's okay, just try to put it back.

I did have a mask on for all parts where I wasn’t on camera. So 80% of the time. I have real bad allergies and would not survive up there without one lol. But thank you for the concern! Nice, i didn’t know that. Wires over top doesn’t seem to effect them at all, like pulling them down.

So much easier to install networking in houses on your side of the pond. Here in South Africa most houses all walls are brick. So no easy hiding of cables, choices are either trunking or call a contractor to chisel out and hide the trunking in there and pray you can match wall colour paint.

Well, in newer homes like mine yes. But generally yes, many homes in the US are fairly easy especially as they get newer. That sounds like a lot of trouble for something that should be simple. I want to visit your country one day but I have to get back to Italy first and other places in the EU first. Cheers!

I’ve only done like 4 cat6e ends, they were a pain, did they get any easier? Did the stranded wire punch downs work ok? Listening while driving so didn’t get to watch closest yet.

Couple of thoughts: you could have put the 1 gang Ethernet down below and ran Ethernet up to the tv area if needed. Thought being you only need 1 Ethernet to the tv maybe, but multiple down at the hutch. Second if you had added a pull string to the first Ethernet cable you pulled, and used the measurements printed on it to cut the next 3, you could have used the pull cable to pull the next 3 super easy.

Yeah I’m not sure why it never crossed my mind to have an Ethernet one lower down. In my minds eye I think I’ll only need 1 Ethernet cable and the Apple 4k tv will be mounted behind the tv. Good point with the pull string. Also not something I thought of or considered.

would you advise for a house with no network cables to use and install/ wire up house all with CAT7 SFTP or CAT6a SFTP? or just stick to usual CAT6 UTP?
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs Год назад
Depends on the size of the house, cat6a should be more than good enough in many situations. Unshielded is fine for home use. Solid Copper CMR cable is fine for home. If you aren't on a tight budget you can spring for CMP. CAT6 is also fine but personally, I'd rather pay a little bit more for CAT6a.

Does ethernet cable brand matter? Looking to create a home network with 12 drops and tp link gear. I pricwd True Cable cat 6 UTP. But another person has said that is garbage and I should use Cable Matters. Is there a difference?
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs Год назад
True Cable is a good brand from my experience. Monoprice is good also. I’m confident Cable Matters is good too. What really matters if your cable is solid copper core. Do not buy copper plated.

Why "Side-B" on keystone? Also, which cameras did you decide on?
@SPXLabs

Just used to doing it for years now at work. Everywhere I’ve been does it. So just keeping it going. Ubiquiti of course lol

Why bother? Everything is wireless.
@SPXLabs
@SPXLabs Год назад
The real answer is, because I take down my WiFi all the time to make different videos and I'm tired of inconveniencing everyone around the house. But I also view WiFi as a force multiplier and not the end all be all solution. I'd rather just plug in given the opportunity.

@@SPXLabs agree, its amazing how much better a wireless network runs just by moving a few devices to wired. I like to have TVs devices wired if possible since obviously your not going to be wiring tablets phones and many other things that don't have the option.
